I found one of these at a ThriftStore in my town. It was not in the box or anything it was just the unit and the controller. I only paid 5bucks for it. I have only had it for about a week and i am thinking on weather to sell it of keep it and buy games. Hell, i'd probably be the only 15 year old in my town that owns a vectrex!
Yes, you're probably just a few kids that age that has one!
I'd definitely keep it, there's a lot of good homebrew cartridges for it...I've got 13 cartridges, which the total number of games with those 13 is a little over 30, since many of those cartridges has more than one game each (one has nine total). Many of them are a very good buy.
I must have got lucky. I feel bad you looked for 28 years.
I walked into a local buyit/trade it when I had some time to kill waiting on my gf. I told them, when they asked, that the only thing I would consider buying would be a TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine. They then told me that those were RARE. I replied with "well, if you are talking rare, I've always wanted a Vectrex but I don't even ask because I know no one will ever have one at a place like this..."
@LanIost aw man, i just traded mine in on craigslist. I just didn't really see the charm in it. I know i am still young and don't understand the classics but i wanted something that i would actually enjoy playing. I traded it for a model 1 sega genesis with the CD and 32X attachments and about 40 games. Hell i noticed that i am playing my Genesis more than my Ps3! I think i did a good trade because i think the Vectrex would of been better off with someone who would actually enjoy it.
Hi cruesiesel, can't really say, I don't know what your priorities are. If you're having a lack of space and/or need the cash, then I'd put it up for sale (not NOW though, say a 3-D Imager, two 'trexes, and several games sell for only $475 the other week?! When 'garage sale season' starts, the prices go down!).
If you just don't play it because you're sick of the games, I'd check out the many excellent homebrews that are available...I just sent off for two more the other day actually :)
Thanks, I just don't have that one, and I don't trust emulators, so that's why I didn't include it (gameplay can be changed for ROMs that are freely available, like with Gravitrex, among many). I should have put it in the game list near the end though, good catch! I do plan on getting that game in the future, I've heard nothing but good things about it!
Star Castle will always have a special place in my heart, no matter the time period, place or system.
I have similar feelings for my beloved Atari Jaguar 64 system as you do the Vectrex, which is the first 64-bit machine (two processors running in parallel is still 64 bits, no matter what you nay sayers claim). Jaguar is the only system capable of memory without the use of batteries and the CD-ROM for the system is great, too.
I wanted a Vectrex system sooooo bad back when I was a teenager! The idea of being able to play Asteroids at home was almost too good to be true, but if you coughed up the cash you could do it! The closest I could come to it (back then) was playing on a bud's system, then not again until I bought a Windows 95 PC and an X-box. You really put a lot of time and effort in this 25 year celebration, I can tell. Bravo on the great job!
Thanks, yeah, thank God I got a digital recorder a few months ago, adding the sounds really elevate this one! (Too bad I still can't do video though, even with an emulator!)
StarCastle was supposed to be a good port too. Great that you know The Truth about the Jaguar, it *was* 64 bit! Can't blame bad software (titles that were no different than the Genesis) on the hardware!
I always wanted one.

How could you make the Vectrex hand held? That would be awfully heavy or if the screen was small the image would look to compressed or something.

Yeah I don't know, I never saw any schematics, much less a photo of the thing, so I couldn't tell ya. Hopefully I will some day!
All I can guess is that they somehow made it smaller and lighter than the original (hopefully!).
