I hate DOO WAH DIDDY! Manfred Mann had so many other better songs. Every time I hear Pretty Flamingo, I think of the girl across the street who had the long golden brown hair and crimson dress that fit so tight. Never had a chance with her.
A great tune by Manfred Mann. Your traditional oldies radio stations tend to play DOO WAH DIDDY over and over again. Manfred Mann had other great records. Good Post.

when this song came out i was a long distant lorry driver and i would stop to have something to eat and if there was not a juke box in that cafe i would to another cafe to findthat song
This was the 2nd of 3 British number1's that Manfred Mann had, spent 3 weeks at the top of the UK charts in May of 1966. Great record, wonderful group. If you ever get the chance go see the present day Manfreds - still fab after all these years!
Ive loved music since I was old enough to talk, 19 years on I still love this music. 21 year olds can appreciate good music and be proud of it. Good on you MiddleOfTheOreo for showing that the 50's, 60's and 70's is not age discriminant. I love this song! The memories of being young listening to 1080 with my parents :)
@IamComfortablyNumb89 - same here. I'm 20 and I can't remember when I started listening to this. What I don't understand is why people never seem to go back to 40s or 30s (or 20s) alot of which is equally as good as the following 3 decades.
@the1musiclad - i would more than love to, but beyond the 50's music is lost to me. All experts for the 20's / 30's or 40's seems to be gone. To put jewels out of the dark is very tough today. Where to begin and where to end, when you've got limited time to spend. The people of that time forgot to lay a trail for us, now it's all a mistery and hidden in the dusty bag of a billion music milestones and other trashes. I desperately searching for a key to that era someone here who still has access?
@CarsonsClub - the "key" is the big name singers and songwriters of the period. If you search for Bing Crosby for example, you'll find ALOT of songs he sang that others did too. You then go to the others who did those songs and see what else they did. if you continue like that you'll find plenty. Also there are many many 40s and 30s compilation albums (swing and jazz albums are basically always songs from those decades too). I know a fair bit about that music so pm me if you want to know more.
a group of boys along my mum's street used to sing this to her... all blonde hair and miniskirted to the max. It's such a lovely, happy, uplifting song :)

1966, Sec 1 at Bukit Ho Swee. every afternoon at 3pm, rediffusion blast this song into our class room from opposite hdb block. oh another song is Lover concerto from The Toy and Yesterday Man from ?????
@davedenn3322 Nice how you remember things like that. I was in Sec 1 in 1967 so I was a year younger. I got to mee these guys finally in Singapore in the Nineties. They played as The Manfreds
@MiddleOfTheOreo Its been a while since you posted your repley, but you should try the band from Manchester called 'the stone roses'; I love the genius of the 60s so I think you would like them.
I like Teddy Vanns version on Academy records better.

You say this rose to No 29 but it was definitely No 1 in the British charts in May 1966, surely. Aged Linda

@PutItAway101 Indeed and he left The Graham Bond Organisation to join them I think. Fabulous bass player.
I dont suppose any one could find 'Machines' off a Manfred Mann EP with Jack on bass could they?
Cant find it anywhere. Cheers
