Majority of my friends who were mostly half asian and half white, their parents taught them not to date black men. they could only date white or asian men. you also have to read about the asian culture and how the view african americans..
Similarly it might be that this person you are talking aboout feels she could not fit into black culture and should therefore not date black men. Many asian americans exhibits a culture which is very different from the culture of black americans so if she refused to date black men due to that difference I think that is fine and not racist. I think when it comes to dating, we all have standards (people who don't have standards are prostitutes!) & certain features are attributed to races. I'll be friends w/ EVERYONE, no problem. But I don't wanna just sleep w/ ANYONE. If I don't find someone attractive, it doesn't make sense to force myself. Other people will find them attractive & date them. I won't say I'll NEVER date a particular race b/c you never know. I just express my interest in asians, but will stay openminded.

I think that preference is just a part of who people are but preference turns into racism when you exclude an entire race of people...
for instance..if a black guy says he doesn't like dark skinned women yet he will date a dark skinned woman who is Indian or Hispanic and then not date a black women of any culture.
If you say that you would only date one race then you are a racist if your reasons are other than political.

I wouldn't call it specifically 'racist' if you aren't attracted to certain people, but I think people who say this are just talking in a general way. So far I haven't liked any Asian people, but I can't say I will never like an Asian guy, simply because there may be an Asian guy I'm attracted to. Everybody has preferences, but you can't really say you will NEVER like an Asian person, or a black person, or a white person, or whatever.

the color of your skin matters to them. the whiter you are the more pure, wealthy, higher stat your are considered. the darker you are meant you wear like a rice farmer, mostly had a low income. The media in asian countries portray blacks as thieves, killers, poor, 2nd class citizens and not educated. so when they came here they kinda kept that same mentality. I give major props to asians who date latinos and blacks. and tell them im glad your parents were open minded.

Similarly it might be that this person you are talking aboout feels she could not fit into black culture and should therefore not date black men. Many asian americans exhibits a culture which is very different from the culture of black americans so if she refused to date black men due to that difference I think that is fine and not racist. If she says black men look physically gross then that would be a different matter.

If you are looking to date a person and hopefully marry later on you should want and like to embrace his or her culture, religious beliefs etc. Am I racist if I feel like I would not fit into the culture of a whole group of people (who happen to have another skin-tone than mine) and therefore decide I should not date persons from that group in order to save both parties grief. For example I would not date an arab or indian because their culture centered around islam and hinduism.

They may not necessarily racist but can be constructed from racist views. So one's dislike for dark skin for instance may be innocent but looking at the stigma and denigration of that it's a sign as to what it generally is. Look at your preferences, what are you views on what you disfavor? If it's denigrated and demeaning then you know if you are a bigot.

@kesomox Your problem is that your unknowingly and naively using "preference" in place of a hypothetical "absolute selection". Preference implies that you possibly might go for something you usually don't, but promote or advance another trait through selection most of the time (i.e. dating someone). So if someone is racist, it is inherently true that they will "absolutely select" those that advance the traits they deem the antithesis of the racial traits they hate.

@kesomox You have to remember human beings are habitual choosers. Some people might not like dark skin, or white skin, simply because they dislike the color, without any racialist reasons behind it. However, if there is a racist reason why someone might not choose another, and it turns into a "preference" as you put it, there is no way to rule it out from the purist meaning of "preference," which just ends up nullifying the conversation altogether.

I totally agree with JayLove here. It's been more than one instance when another guy would tell me, "Oh, I'm not attracted to black guys." Then I would respond okay, so you're not attracted to me because of my skin tone, but there are some Latino guys and Caucasian guys that can tan and be darker than me, but you'll still find them attractive. It's just an ethnicity problem I think. They feel that they're superior and don't want to have sex or be with someone inferior than them.

You know honestly speaking, letting it out there. Some people are actually attracted to certain skin tones even though they might come off as racist. It's a tough subject to touch. It's as simple as someone liking blue or black shoes because that's their favorite color. It's just pure attraction sometimes and nothing with racism.
