When I do mine I use gel. But I don't have any "real" eyebrows. I shave them. But black might be to dark for you. Plus you're not used to looking at yourself with filled in eyebrows so it can take some getting used to. Just practice getting a nice arch and maybe try a slightly lighter color. Something else to try is a powder or eyeshadow. Pencil might be to harsh. Really all you can do is practice and experiment. Good luck. =)
@kayliejj20 I LOVE THAT!!! but i do think it was made for people with brow hairs because its hard for me to get them even with a brush... easier for me to do my eyebrows with cake liner because it wont smear
