When someone says "Asian" in the United States they mean anyone on the continent of Asia - which includes India. Also, "Oriental" is an out-dated and racist term.

In the UK, Asian means specifically Indian or Pakistani. In the US, it's Chinese, Japanese, Korean.

And just like Indian or Pakistani Americans who get a little annoyed when they are ignored when this broad term 'Asian' is used, similarly British people of East Asian descent feel this way when the opposite applies in UK soceity. The 'Asian' community in England include Arabic peoples too, while the Japanese and Chinese are kind of ignored. Vice versa in the US. Nothing to do with Novak!
