@WITHTEETH1 lol. They did/still do drink alcohol. Ever heard of wine? If you were a Rush fan, you would know Geddy said in Beyond the Lighted Stage they were high when they made Caress of Steel. So, they obviously smoked weed back in their younger years.
Wrong... They drank lots of alcohol and even smoked. They used to ask for alcohol during their concerts. In fact, Rutsey left the band because he was diabetic and they where drinking so much that they taught he would die so they asked him for his own sake to quit the band. Later on surely they stopped smoking and all that and became way more mature as they are today. Still, they love booze, Alex owns a bar in Canada and all.
couldn't agree with you more, being a huge rush fan myself, i know for a fact them guys wasn't the drug and pissed up types. Even Gene Simmons said about them that they never got up to stuff like that when they toured together.
@thedizzies1 Yeah? The jerk store called....they're running out of you! :-D (Hope the reference is not lost upon you, lest I become those whom I condemn.)
Man Man when you are this good and have the talent and sucess that they have had you can and have all of the experience and knowledge in the world to be as pretentious and opinionated as you want.. these guys are gods in the rock world I believe that they are being very professional and greatful in this interview.... Neil is probablly the most intellengent young man that I have ever seen in the rock industry at this time....
I have a love/hate attitude about this band. On one hand I love their musicianship, but on the other hand they have at times come off sounding pretentious. They can deny it, and many fans can deny it, but it is true. So what if a band likes to play just good basic rock ? What's wrong with that ? I mean they do what they like and respect another band for doing what they feel like doing or floats their boat, right ? ........
@TitaniumByFire They may sound pretentious at times, but they're really not. Don't confuse confidence with being cocky. And they have they're opinions about music, but so do you. A little righteousness in musical taste is alright and healthy, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Rush are human after all, and they were really young at the time of this interview, probably smokin' some herb too. Alex Lifeson was definitely high in this interview.
......Also geddy said "they have gone back to playing basics", which is to imply some of these bands have went beyond basics at one time to a certain degree, which means he literally contradicted himself............
......Second of all, they should feel blessed that they were born with extraordinary talents, and realize that if somebody else is "less talented" that they should be respected if they work hard to make a good quality product in the end. Neil even contradicted geddy in beyond the lighted stage when he said they were never pretentious, yet geddy was absolutely being just that in this interview........
......... Jeez, it's too bad such a talented band had to be too big for their britches sort of speak, and for good old rock n roll. Nothing wrong with jamming to basics at times and breaking a sweat and enjoying uncluttered real music with a good rythm. Even they admitted they went to far in beyond the lighted stage. In the end it's rock n roll or heavy metal, and is supposed to be somewhat raw, remember rock n roll guys ?
I love how the "intellectual" interviewer gets proverbial pie in his face...5:27...."WE dont think so"...(interviewer mumbles: "i guess i'll scratch that one off the list")....ha ha
Hmmm...Geddy has a very strong resemblance to my mum here, especially with the glasses. :p
Oh, Geddy, you're so lovable. x} 3:00 made me giggle. ^_^ "The machine enables me to trigger my gigantic synthesizer with my feet. They're very large feet, I might add, so I get very large sounds." XD
LMAO at Alex and Geddy at 3:18. Boy was Alex quiet back then. What the hell were they partying with? Now you can't get Alex to keep his mouth shut for a 5 seconds, lol.
Alex here has the worst fucking perm ever in the history of mankind.
