@GlockNinja - The D7000 is the successor to the D90. The D90 is geared more towards photography with the ability to record 720p video. The 5100 won't have all of the advanced features of the D90 or D7000 (when it comes to photos) but it does record 1080p video and have an LCD that swivels and rotates.
@IridiumVIII yeah..a big selling point is the rotating and swivel LCD display and 1080p video. Looks like I'll be getting the D5100 when the time comes. Unless I see something better. I still have the Panasonic GH2 in mind if I can find it cheap. I like the Leica lens. I recently looked at a group picture with over 50 people sitting in a theater taken with a D90 and I could see every face in the picture clear. Nice.
My parents bought me the d7000 about 4 days ago. All I can say for this camera has already been said by millions - great performance, really fast, and extremely lightweight.
I've bought a 50mm f1.8D to start with the camera, because It's a great lens, razor sharp, and super cheap. It all costed me about 1200 euros.
I highly recommend this camera to everybody, you won't regret a thing! So happy to have it as my first DSLR!
@Hedll - Yes it is. I think it looks even better with the battery grip attached. Researching what you want is the best thing you can do. Especially when you're getting ready to put down a lot of cash for it -

Really nice video. Will the 18-105 lens be ok for everyday use, as well as portraits, and studio use? The last SLR I had was the Canon AE1. My favorite lens was the 50mm, cause it too great portraits. I used the 35mm for everyday use. Then I used my 28-300mm telephoto/macro lens for taking nature shots. Any recommendations on which lens is the best? My main purpose will be studio shots. THANKS!!!
@Jenny1954 - The 18-105 lens is great for everyday use and it's the lens I use 85% of the time. It's above average for portraits and studio use. When I want that clarity, detail and sharpness I use the 35mm Nikkor. Thanks for the feedback -
@biozastron - Thanks for the feedback and I did get another lens. I picked up a Nikon/Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G not that long ago (I have an unboxing video of that as well). After using the 35mm for a day I decided that I'd never bother with a point and shoot camera unless I absolutely had to. =) I also have a unboxing video of the MB-D11 battery grip for the D7000 uploaded too. Thanks again for the feedback!
@claireglory - Video playback on your HDTV. The D7000 also captures Full 1080p HD video. Also, in some cases you can hook the D7000 up to a larger external display that can be used to monitor subject(s) and or composition(s).
Nice camera. For me I got a Canon 7D but the D7000 was the other choice. I was looking for something a little more nice without so many bells and whistles and on a more profesional level so I went with the 7D.
@krazy4baja - For me, photography is more of a hobby. During the time I was researching cameras - 7D camera and lens kits were in the $1800-$1900 price range. I have the D7000, the kit lens, a 35mm Nikkor lens, the Nikon MB-D11 battery grip, an extra Nikon EN-EL15 battery and a Nikon MC-DC2 remote release. All totaled out to a hair under $1970. A similar Canon 7D set up would be at $2500. The 7D is a nice camera though.
That's a lot of goods stuffed into that box after the manuals. Audio cables, usb cable, battery, quick charger, strap. I was thinking he was going to pull out a jelly donut and the on-screen caption would say "donut break".
@braedon218 - You do know that only westerners (USA/CANADA/MEXICO) pronounce it NY-CON. The rest of the world including Japan - where Nikon is headquartered pronounce it NICK-on. Now you can stop butchering the correct pronunciation.
Hi, i wanna know your opinion for the oil on sensor D7000 Problem...?...Should i buy the D7000 despite this problem or is better to buy some else camera? thanks (sorry for bad english)
@denisdf - I can't really comment on the oil on sensor problem with the D7000 because I haven't personally experienced it yet. I can't find any conclusive data or information pointing to a specific manufacturing date and or batch of cameras affected by this. A lot of people are posting pictures of the oil spots but nobody putting up important information like country, date of purchase, manufacture date or serial numbers. items you need to make informed decisions -
@denisdf I have a D7000 with over 17,000 pictures taken with it. Camera has seen a lot of abuse also from time to time, beside the deep scratches, its still working like the day i first started using it. no sensor problems. As for memory card u need to buy fast cards with speed like class (10).

SanDisk, Toshiba and Panasonic brand SDXC cards up to 64GB. Right now, I'm using (2) Lexar Professional SDHC cards - 16GB for photos and 32GB for HD video.

Hallo..is it possible that the DK 5 Eye Piece Cap and the MH 25 Quick Charger Cord are not in the box? (for the optional quick charger i do not wonder of course, as it is optional..)
@LoQuita1184 - To satisfy people's curiosity? To generate views and ad revenue in terms of Google partnership[s]? To give the public a first look in some instances? Those reasons plus the ones you mentioned are probably just a few of the motivating factors in posting them. I suppose the real question might be - why do people actively seek them out on youtube?
@LoQuita1184 - LoL! We're all guilty. For the record - I wasn't trying to brag. A few of the subscribers I'm cool with made the request =] Thanks for commenting.
kinda creepy when you put it on the tripod and start turning it around...looks like the camera has a mind of it's own and turns into " virtual 360 psycho camera" ... don't believe me? shut off the lights and start watching at 5:25 ... creepy.
@atyl1972 - I don't have a flickr account & I use Sony Vegas Pro9 which murders still images when incorporating them in to video. So I don't really have a means to properly showcase the still image quality. I'll also be the first to tell you that I'm hardly a pro when it comes to photography. It's more of an interest / hobby that I picked up from my dad. Hopefully I have something figured out to showcase this camera in the coming days - heading to the New York International Motorcycle Show.
@IridiumVIII ok cool, nice camera though but i have seen mixed reviews about the placement of buttons etc, i'm really unsure about the camera, god man i'm the most indecisive person ever, lol
@atyl1972 - I think that I caught a break with mines. I didn't have any of the hot pixel issues that some people were reporting. By the way, Nikon recently released a firmware update to address that issue. Button placement is similar to my old D3000 so it was a fairly smooth transition for me. However, I will admit that the lock switch used to enable/adjust "burst mode" shooting wasn't the brightest idea since you basically have to you use 2 hands to enable it.
@atyl1972 - I can relate on being indecisive. I spent about 2 weeks debating between the D7000 and Canon 60D. Two of the majors points that convinced me to go with the D7000 were - 1. I was already familiar with the Nikon camera menu system. 2. I came across a D7000 preview video by an avid Canon user and he even admitted that he wanted to get a D7000 because of it's specs when compared to the 60D. That was enough to convince me.
@IridiumVIII hey dude, just literally ordered the d7000 with the tokina 12-24 II lens and the battery grip which makes it look beast and i guess feel beast too as i found the camera body grip a tad smaller than i prefer but after seeing a vid on youtube with a guy unboxing the grip then adding it to the d7000 it totally convinced me, thanks for your vid also man
@atyl1972 - How could I have forgotten the other deciding factor? Number 3 - dual SD card slots. One for JPEG, one for RAW or one for backup or overflow or one for video. Those are a couple of the options available -
@IridiumVIII if you want ur still images to look HD with no loss nothing and size of video that does not go above a few megs only... get Ulead media studio pro version 8 not the new version. u will be surprise at the quality of your video and underr 20mb file size and takes less then normal viewing time to make it.......God i love torrents
@thermosinthesis - Yes it does but if you're looking to do some serious recording you'll want to get and use an external microphone because the internal mic picks up the auto-focus motor noise.
hi, i have tried to order the D7000with the 18-105, but it is unavaiable, is it all right if the but the body and lense separate of the 18-105, are they exactly same
@bockenrecords - The D7000 is a monster. It can really be overwhelming for the casual shooter. That being said - if you're serious about photography and if you have the cash and you can find one, I'd say go for it. If you're only going to be using it casually then I'd say it might be better for you to go with getting the D3100. You're still going to great photos with it BUT it'll be easier for you to use when compared to the D7000 which has a ton controls and menus.
@IridiumVIII Thanks for the reply. I'd like to become a professional photographer and I usually don't have any problems to learn new technical features and I do have the time to learn taking great photos. My local shop will have it in stock in December. It seems that you are very satisfied with your camera and I do appreciate reviews and comments from real users! Thanks for this great unboxing video btw :)
You know... I really want to get the d3100, but I do want to get it with a Wide Angle lens (I really enjoy landscape photography). But all the wide angle lense, are outrageously expensive.... Could you give me an idea on how I can get a wide angle lens?
@IridiumVIII My friend who is a beginner did get the d7000! She is bragging about it. She loves it and she is a beginner. She has no clue about photography! She loves your video!
Great video by the way! Now, she is bragging about her camera. I am still feeling the 7D...
@bockenrecords If you are going from a compact point and shoot. I might also suggest a micro 4/3 camera such as the olympus EPL-1. Dslr quality with the simplicity of a compact. Pretty cool camera (I got one) But if not the D3100 is pretty awesome also. (or Canon's entry lvl 550D)
@bockenrecords start with a camera like the sony nex5, this would be perfect for you as its the next step up from compacts that still manages to take awesome quality shots that are very very very close to being dslr quality and also has the ease of use, google it or better still youtube it, its a cracking looking camera too
@IridiumVIII hi, I ordered the body, cuz I had a nikkor dx 18-55 lens left, I'm now buying an extra lens, do you think it'd be wise to buy the lens that came with yours? ty!
@Thomnasty - Congrats on getting yours - I hear they're still hard to come by. The lens that comes with the D7000 kit is a good lens. It sort of falls in the area of being slightly above average but not high end. The focus is quick and sharp and it makes for a good all around lens.
Wow great job dude.. I am in Singapore looking to get one of these babies asap, may be when I am in the US next, it is less expensive there with US$ doing downhill against most currencies
I will also get it soon. But it they won't be selling it before mid-november here. Nikon found some issues, so they stopped selling them now for a while; that's what the man at my local camera store said.
Btw very nice review, best I have seen so far for this camera. I subscribed, please do more videos about this DSLR!
@sidlawyer2008 - Appreciate the comment. To be honest though I could only give you an best guess. I'm coming from owning a D3000 so the transition for me was like a quantum leap in terms of controls, options and options. The D7000 made me realize how well put together the D3000 as far ease of use for the 1st time DSLR shooter. To sort of answer your question. It's worthy upgrade especially if you shoot a lot
@IridiumVIII Thanks dude. I can understand the difference between a D3000 and D7000. However, I read somewhere that D7000 has serious issues with the sharpness of images. Plus its U1-U2 mode - As I read constantly on a website that Nikon has had issues with the settings recall options and U1-U2 was to make up for that.
How well do you think these two points are covered since you can give a first hand information ?
@sidlawyer2008 - Wow!! Thanks for the heads up!! I haven't had much time to really explore the D7000 because we've been painting and installing new lighting in our home. I'll take the D7000 out today and see what I can find. Anything specific you want me to look in to?
@IridiumVIII I was mainly concerned about these two things but I had also read a doubt of someone that it has a new White Balance mode named "Ambient" which MIGHT lead to turning tungsten into ORANGE rather than a WHITE. If you can have an eye for that as well.
I like the camera, no doubt, but since it is substantially costlier than a D90, if it doesn't justify its mark, I would rather stick to D90 which is a good one at the same.
@sidlawyer2008 the sharpness issues can be resolved by shooting at a higher iso. also, some people were complaining that the images were blurry through the viewfinder, and most people neglect to adjust the eyepiece focal adjustment (the adjustment for people with glasses) which solved it. i held a d7000 and immediately i saw that it was blurry through the viewfinder, but upon adjusting the dial it cleared up immediately.
I really liked this unboxing. Having the silent unboxing with notes was really nice, i could concentrate on the product itself. Too many people just sit there and jabber on about the product and makes it hard to actually concentrate on it.
Love this camera, but i here that the lens is junk? your thought?

@ChauvetteProductions - I don't have any complaints with the kit lens. I'm not a professional so it serves my purposes just fine.

why do people make unboxing vids?? lol 2 brag and make those of us who dont have one jealous perhaps?
LoQuita1184 1 year ago 2
@LoQuita1184 - To satisfy people's curiosity? To generate views and ad revenue in terms of Google partnership[s]? To give the public a first look in some instances? Those reasons plus the ones you mentioned are probably just a few of the motivating factors in posting them. I suppose the real question might be - why do people actively seek them out on youtube?

kinda creepy when you put it on the tripod and start turning it around...looks like the camera has a mind of it's own and turns into " virtual 360 psycho camera" ... don't believe me? shut off the lights and start watching at 5:25 ... creepy.

ok iridium, you got all the gear, now we wanna see if you have any idea, show us some pics with this camera dude, do you have a flickr account?
atyl1972 1 year ago
@atyl1972 - I don't have a flickr account & I use Sony Vegas Pro9 which murders still images when incorporating them in to video. So I don't really have a means to properly showcase the still image quality. I'll also be the first to tell you that I'm hardly a pro when it comes to photography. It's more of an interest / hobby that I picked up from my dad. Hopefully I have something figured out to showcase this camera in the coming days - heading to the New York International Motorcycle Show.
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII ok cool, nice camera though but i have seen mixed reviews about the placement of buttons etc, i'm really unsure about the camera, god man i'm the most indecisive person ever, lol
atyl1972 1 year ago
@atyl1972 - I think that I caught a break with mines. I didn't have any of the hot pixel issues that some people were reporting. By the way, Nikon recently released a firmware update to address that issue. Button placement is similar to my old D3000 so it was a fairly smooth transition for me. However, I will admit that the lock switch used to enable/adjust "burst mode" shooting wasn't the brightest idea since you basically have to you use 2 hands to enable it.
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@atyl1972 - I can relate on being indecisive. I spent about 2 weeks debating between the D7000 and Canon 60D. Two of the majors points that convinced me to go with the D7000 were - 1. I was already familiar with the Nikon camera menu system. 2. I came across a D7000 preview video by an avid Canon user and he even admitted that he wanted to get a D7000 because of it's specs when compared to the 60D. That was enough to convince me.
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII hey dude, just literally ordered the d7000 with the tokina 12-24 II lens and the battery grip which makes it look beast and i guess feel beast too as i found the camera body grip a tad smaller than i prefer but after seeing a vid on youtube with a guy unboxing the grip then adding it to the d7000 it totally convinced me, thanks for your vid also man
atyl1972 1 year ago
@atyl1972 - Congrats!! I'm looking at getting the battery grip later on this year as well.
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@atyl1972 - How could I have forgotten the other deciding factor? Number 3 - dual SD card slots. One for JPEG, one for RAW or one for backup or overflow or one for video. Those are a couple of the options available -
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII if you want ur still images to look HD with no loss nothing and size of video that does not go above a few megs only... get Ulead media studio pro version 8 not the new version. u will be surprise at the quality of your video and underr 20mb file size and takes less then normal viewing time to make it.......God i love torrents

does it have a built in mic?
thermosinthesis 1 year ago
@thermosinthesis - Yes it does but if you're looking to do some serious recording you'll want to get and use an external microphone because the internal mic picks up the auto-focus motor noise.

Can you recommend this camera to a beginner like me? I'd like to upgrade my compact camera to something great!
bockenrecords 1 year ago
@bockenrecords - The D7000 is a monster. It can really be overwhelming for the casual shooter. That being said - if you're serious about photography and if you have the cash and you can find one, I'd say go for it. If you're only going to be using it casually then I'd say it might be better for you to go with getting the D3100. You're still going to great photos with it BUT it'll be easier for you to use when compared to the D7000 which has a ton controls and menus.
IridiumVIII 1 year ago 11
@IridiumVIII Thanks for the reply. I'd like to become a professional photographer and I usually don't have any problems to learn new technical features and I do have the time to learn taking great photos. My local shop will have it in stock in December. It seems that you are very satisfied with your camera and I do appreciate reviews and comments from real users! Thanks for this great unboxing video btw :)

@IridiumVIII
You know... I really want to get the d3100, but I do want to get it with a Wide Angle lens (I really enjoy landscape photography). But all the wide angle lense, are outrageously expensive.... Could you give me an idea on how I can get a wide angle lens?
yakkaw 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII My friend who is a beginner did get the d7000! She is bragging about it. She loves it and she is a beginner. She has no clue about photography! She loves your video!
Great video by the way! Now, she is bragging about her camera. I am still feeling the 7D...
jackies35 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII What sucks with the d3100 is that has no in-body autofocus...
fedhenk 11 months ago
@bockenrecords If you are going from a compact point and shoot. I might also suggest a micro 4/3 camera such as the olympus EPL-1. Dslr quality with the simplicity of a compact. Pretty cool camera (I got one) But if not the D3100 is pretty awesome also. (or Canon's entry lvl 550D)
KneeGuardPlease 1 year ago
@bockenrecords start with a camera like the sony nex5, this would be perfect for you as its the next step up from compacts that still manages to take awesome quality shots that are very very very close to being dslr quality and also has the ease of use, google it or better still youtube it, its a cracking looking camera too

@IridiumVIII hi, I ordered the body, cuz I had a nikkor dx 18-55 lens left, I'm now buying an extra lens, do you think it'd be wise to buy the lens that came with yours? ty!
Thomnasty 1 year ago
@Thomnasty - Congrats on getting yours - I hear they're still hard to come by. The lens that comes with the D7000 kit is a good lens. It sort of falls in the area of being slightly above average but not high end. The focus is quick and sharp and it makes for a good all around lens.

Hey, nice video. Well, as you have used Nikon D7000, do you think its worth its price or is it better to stick to D90 ?
sidlawyer2008 1 year ago
@sidlawyer2008 - Appreciate the comment. To be honest though I could only give you an best guess. I'm coming from owning a D3000 so the transition for me was like a quantum leap in terms of controls, options and options. The D7000 made me realize how well put together the D3000 as far ease of use for the 1st time DSLR shooter. To sort of answer your question. It's worthy upgrade especially if you shoot a lot
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII Thanks dude. I can understand the difference between a D3000 and D7000. However, I read somewhere that D7000 has serious issues with the sharpness of images. Plus its U1-U2 mode - As I read constantly on a website that Nikon has had issues with the settings recall options and U1-U2 was to make up for that.
How well do you think these two points are covered since you can give a first hand information ?
sidlawyer2008 1 year ago
@sidlawyer2008 - Wow!! Thanks for the heads up!! I haven't had much time to really explore the D7000 because we've been painting and installing new lighting in our home. I'll take the D7000 out today and see what I can find. Anything specific you want me to look in to?
IridiumVIII 1 year ago
@IridiumVIII I was mainly concerned about these two things but I had also read a doubt of someone that it has a new White Balance mode named "Ambient" which MIGHT lead to turning tungsten into ORANGE rather than a WHITE. If you can have an eye for that as well.
I like the camera, no doubt, but since it is substantially costlier than a D90, if it doesn't justify its mark, I would rather stick to D90 which is a good one at the same.
Waiting for your review.

@sidlawyer2008 Sharpness issues has something to do with the low grade kit lens
NixxerJixxerWixxer 1 year ago
@NixxerJixxerWixxer Thanks Nixxer
sidlawyer2008 1 year ago
