  • hikiashi?????

  • The kicking technique is terrible. Problems are, his heel on his back foot doesn't stay on the ground, which will cause balance problems due to the unsteady balance of weight. Second, the front kick is a snap kick. He's pushing like a side kick. Third, he doesn't chamber his leg after he kicks making it easy to grab, then move into a sweep. I haven't watched the rest of the video, only because the first technique he demonstrated wasn't even correct. By the way, this is constructive critisism

  • @stelkiker99 I'd fully agree with that. To add on, I keep seeing the same issues with each of the techniques - during the mawashi geri's, some of them lift their feet a bit much as well as dropping their guards too much. When practicing their basic punches (jodan/chudan tsuki), their back feet keep lifting off the ground too.

All that said,it is good to see people going over the basics, something that gets forgotten all too often :)

  • very nice instructor and the students are doing well

    ITF Taekwondo

  • a great demo of good solid basics well done, and lets not forget with out basics there would be no styles at all.

  • gonna stick the cam in the car next time Leo Lipinski take class I'll see if I can get someone to do some recording, sorry not missing a class to hold a cam.

  • thanks :LD

  • Nice, but when you're punching, your feet are taking off - its bad...

  • love the puches and kicks, very useful however those guards are trrible, i could push your hands into your faces, i do shotokan karate and i know that a wide guard is safer than a close guard (or atlest elbows in a position where your not going to damage your own ribs and hands/fists away from face)

  • yes in kempo kickboxing we call that the push kick and we aim it at the hip bone and the extension is amplified by pushing into it not just from the knee, but also the base foot, then retract before landing.

  • i've tried many martial arts in the past (tkw, karate shotokan, aikido, ju jitsu and tai chi) now i discovered Goju ryu and i love it... thank you for the video :)

  • I liked this video...not perfect (hell, what's perfect anyway) but it's good, honest training. Some people trying to be so picky should really keep their comments to themselves.

  • goju ryu is a very unique style of karate

  • Verry nice thank you

  • if your looking for somthing to motivate you to keep training learn kata, kata is the textbook of karate if you want to no how to fight kata, if you want fitness kata, if you want to get strong kata, if you want to be a betta person kate, kata teachers you things that we can relate to life how it teachers you all that well thats 4 you yourself to find out take your own road learn it 4 yourself it will take years some say a life time but thats what keeps us motivated to training

  • ima start karate tommow

    this reallly helped

  • your techniques need improvement or your were tired that day if you want to make contact karate it should show power killing power one technique and you done or you don't want to hurt those pads?? good upper movement but no legs...

  • not a bad little vid but bad hand skills a good fighter will pick that you dip your hand before you throw it you should go back to guard straight after thrown or youl pick up the habit of leaving yourself open for a counter

  • this is good karate

  • I s very important the traditional way ,teach you the right way to understant.

  • I always wondered if it was ok to throw jab like punches because my Goju Ryu School often have us start with a backfist.

  • @tman229 Interesting comment that, in your dojo we start with anything and end with what ever works that way there are no limits or restrictions at all on your mind or body, do what comes natural, thank you.

  • @gojukanman I believe in that too but I often add in techniques in my katas and always figured whatever isn't in the kata aren't original karate techniques. So I think what I really wanna to know is if jabs (or whatever similiar or renamed) are in original karate techniques.

  • @tman229 The kata should remain traditional and the techniques are already all there. The jab or kizami zuki is basicly a punch off the lead hand, think about gekki sai ichi kata second technique, step in and punch with the lead hand, think about it you cant be wrong.

  • @gojukanman That makes a bit of sense considering where your lead leg is when throwing that punch. I just always thought it as a straight punch since they started off in the chamber. It's something to think about. Thanx

  • Interesting fight. Keep it up!

Hope to watch more from you.

Please stop by our page as well and comment / review our videos.

    Thanks!

  • Strong, solid kicks. But how do you guys avoid mangling your toes while using the ball of the foot?

  • @stevevandien just cotinuous practice keeping the toes back and strtching the heel, check out our new films on youtube many thanks

  • @gojukanman Thanks much -- enjoy your vids very much:). Best, Steve

  • Excellent video on the basics. Just one thing I noticed though. The black belt that you are using to demonstrate the technique looked like he was just dropping his foot after the kick at the beginning of the video. A big no no as an opponent could catch his leg and put him in serious trouble should he miss with the kick.

  • @CrackerJackthe4th

The only thing i smell here is different teaching.

The largest difference i see in the punches is that there is no chamber, no stance. Which kind of saddens me. Nothing is better than moving in zen kutsu dachi. Or punching in Shiko-Dachi. I may not be a high rank, but that means no difference. i think that this has become less traditional and a tad more modern.

  • I notice they kick with the ball of the foot. Is this a classical system of Goju-Ryu? I was taught to kick with the heel of the foot when doing a front kick.

  • Maybe for a side, or back kick but not for a front kick. In order to kick with your heel you would need to bring your foot up higher, and your body would not like that, putting an intense strain on your achelies tendon. Maybe a low kick to the shins/ knee cap would work.

In the end, yes it is classical.

  • i enjoy all your videos they are a refreshing change real people doing real training great stuff

  • like boxerists... not karatists.. i mean their kiks would be peinful ofcourse.. and not trained person would get down, but there is so many things to get better on their techniques...

  • good training ! not shore that the hook punches are gojo ryu though ! good strong kicking though !

  • @DementedDegsy why would it not be goju? not everything is in the kata

  • this dudes class is better than most i would have to say. that and the pushing hand exercises are the shit..focus training on those pads is what its all about. solid

  • feel sorry to that little guy who partner up with the intrustor :(

  • Don't man. You gain alot of mental discipline from doing bag work. That "little" guy didn't sweat that at all ;)

  • hey darkshadove; u a talking b-shit. the aim of good karate is getting to right distance to make yr ( counter)tecnique. how to get there is another story. There is nothing wrong with these gyus' techn ; for e.g. front kicks are very powerful with excellent hip vibration.

  • guys I think that guy is standing too close to the bag when kicking so it kinda looks awkward

  • it is karate

    it is not taewondo

  • how long does it usually take to be a black belt?

  • in this group most people take about 7-8 years

  • 5 years

  • wtf ? where are you training ? in slovakia over 7-8 years

  • In Portugal over 5-6 years

  • 15 seconds 5 bugs just order one online. Same old questions they never change

  • their instructor is punching from the shoulder on that jab. he also seems to be just standing there, not in a stance where he can connect his body to the floor. he also has a pullback on his lead hand for the jab, making it easier to see coming. their katate ends at the stomach. even boxers strike from the back leg at least

  • Yeah, I noticed that, too...

  • Hmmm. The punch isnt bad, could be worked on but it isnt that bad.

  • I smell BS....

  • Western boxing uses gloves.

    Muai thai uses gloves.

Nothing wrong with that but nothing wrong in correctly done karate neither.

I guess you must have trained the none correct karate then?

  • 1. when kicking, do not open your upper area by lowering arms or even swing arms around.

    2. when punching, do not try to push back your opponent with your strike. be soft in your arms and shoulders. develop high velocity. then just before you hit tighten all your muscles and get hard. but only for a short moment, then immediately get soft again and pull your fist back to focus in the starting position. your punch must become a quick snap. like a whip. not like a ram.

    keep up the good work

  • can you put on sub-titles please?

  • Comment removed

  • i wasin karate i got to orange belt them my sensai moved to alaska.:(

  • great videos guys.

one small point i have to make tho:

when doing the straight kicks, u need to make sure u dont just drop ur foot after. snap out, then back in, and then down. dont kick and let ur foot drop, or else it can get hooked or grabbed. u are also more off balance.

but great work fellas, keep it up! :)

  • GOOD

  • and you call it "goju-ryu"? shame on you.

  • 1:35 poor guy....

  • BASICS r not only for white belts, they are for all grades, the more u practice basics the more powerfull and reliable they will be. keep up the good work, great video.

  • thats true no point doing advance stuff unless you have the basics perfect

  • A black belt loosely translated, actually means master of the basics.

  • really!!! Interesting....thanks for the insite I'll have to tell that my club members

    ous

  • @xxMrScissorsxx loosely translated? wtf?

  • Thank you for posting these videos. I grew up training Tang Soo Do karate but that was many years ago. Now I'm looking to start training myself as we have no solid karate dojo's in the area, and will be using these videos to learn a karate that I view is more effective and harder than what I learned in the past.

    Thanks

  • What degree black belt are you?

I'm a second junior grade. I started training when I was 6. ^^ So my friends call my karate obsessed b/c i am always at the dojo.

Also my dojo offers some Shorin-ryu stuff. greenbelt^^ I hate the Shorin-ryu side kick, with like a front chamber. ouch.

  • ...zzzz they should show something that you don't learn on the first day as a white belt.

  • why is that then ? BASICS !

  • I know its basics but they should show you somethings that you can learn in time like when you're a green belt maybe so you have something to keep you motivated to learn.

  • We shall attempt to put up some inspiring and excellent Goju Ryu very shortly so that Green Belts know what they have to strive towards .... hopefully that will be of interest to you, ElvargCharcoal. Watch this space!

  • it's not for me. i already know the style. its for people who don't know what the diffrence between styles is. and what things you can learn as you progree through. But yeah that should intrest me as well.

  • I think learning something like this is inspiring enough. If you need new techniques to keep your interest piqued, then you're in the wrong game. I've been training in Isshinryu (a goju derivative) for about 6 years and we always start with the basics. Basics doesn't equal ineffective or easy--it equals the basis of their style. Show some respect to their ranks, yo. Don't judge them on an 8 minute video.

  • @dmitzah Well said

  • @dmitzah Hai every journey no matter how far starts w/ the first step, and in Karate its always starts w/ kihon osu.

  • I like what I saw where are you located ???

  • we are in Broseley Shropshire, England.

  • Details about the club are in the 'more info' section at the top right of the page next to the vid

  • Very good video.

Shows lots of detail when hitting your opponent.

Theres only one thing you missed in it.

    How to defend yourself.

If you can't defend yourself, you can't really do anything.

  • I agree, good video

  • all your students look sharp & the basics are well trained, quality karate like this makes cracking veiwing.

  • two black belts one brown belt and a green belt

  • I like this vid, shows good solid basic technique. Sensei looks good and sharp! What grade are the others in the vid? two black and one green?
