@fisherm4127 He is with a lady called Kathleen Brennan, and one of his three kids is a percussionist who plays in Tom's band sometimes. Everybody knows this. everybody.
It's the only time I've ever seen him fluff a line, (accidentally). But given the complexity of his lyrics and music, that's quite an achievement in itself.
@EwolDJ While his lyrics are often very complex, as you said, it's funny that this flub occurred in a song whose lyrics are so very simple and straightforward. Flub or no, the man's a genius.
doesn't matter if you're a fan you gotta respect the man for what he does... honestly i think he's the most diverse musician EVER he can move your soul or strip the skin from a moose with the same croon. He's underrated but so wasn't mozart
@brandojitsu123 You are right, Tom Waits is my most favorite musician of the past 30 years. His dedication to music making is remarkable, he is the only musician I know of who would still sing even if the only things he had were a raspy sandpaper voice and an Oldsmobile hubcap as a musical instrument. I also mention Kathleen Brennan as a wonderful influence to his art, I think that he owes her a lot.
HA! I am becoming a Tom Waits fan... And I love that he wrote this song about a place which has always remained a sort of bucolic fantasy for me from childhood, when I lived there around 1957 and 1958?. I was around 10? (Born in 1948). It was such a lovely place, with places to go ice skating and farms and corn fields right next door. The people were so friendly. Had my first kiss there (spin the bottle) in Johnsburg, Illinois.
newfut... what are you doing listening to tom waits videos if you dont like him!?!?! let me hear you write somthing that moves me and everyone else watching this video as much as tom does... until then i hate you. and you have terrible taste by the way i saw your little video and all i have to say is ...damn....
I have no problem with those that play the part of a cool, Beat-influenced hepcat, it's just that Waits is especially bad at it. A man of limited talents for those with limited imaginations and limited knowledge of the history of popular music.
Sadly, "Newfuture" you seem kind of clueless - please elaborate as to which performers YOU believe to NOT be "limited" by the way mindless ramblings with zero connections to anything of substance do not count - those who have not truly "lived" can ramble on and on but make no sense whatsoever to those who have, only to other protected, insulated little souls like themselves.
I would have gone if the tickets wouldn't have been so ridiculously expensive. I refuse to pay over $100 to see any artist, no matter how much I admire him.
One of my favorite Tom Waits songs. Its a perfect little jewel. Great performance, too. What a funny, charismatic performer. And it appears he has gotten better with age.
I heard he was Bi Never seen his family...
