  • He says in the video that it's a D minor tuning--the most common tuning for Skip James songs. I think you'll find it's a lot easier to play in D minor. Also easier to hit in that falsetto than in G

  • Dminor tuning, Skip used it a lot. Very nice version of the song, by the way.

  • Love it!

  • Για τη σχωρεμένη..;-DDD

  • Very best version of this song I've seen. Apart from the original of course :)

  • This is one of my favorite blues tunes. You can check out my version in my videos.

  • Well done, John would have been proud of your version.

  • you're wrong mate.. it's standard.

  • 6th string (bass) is clearly "D". Definitely not standard tuning. DADFAD!

  • @NickeyWhitfield Nope, D minor DADFad

  • @NickeyWhitfield

Nope, not a chance, it's Dminor DADFad

  • that is god

  • you should see skip james playing it then it might change your mind

  • This is a great rendition!

  • Does he have any recordings or CDs...I would love to get a hold of some of this! Great stuff and thanks for posting!

  • This clip is a wonderful tribute to John Cephas who passed away of natural causes on march 4th, 2009.

"More than anything else, I would like to see a revival of country blues by more young people more people going to concerts, learning to play the music, Cephas once said. Thats why I stay in the field of traditional music. I dont want it to die."

  • Best blues performance I have seen in a while. Love this video.

  • And that means every string is tuned down a whole step, or a whole tone..?

Except the A and D string I mean...

  • Yes thats right. Just put a capo on the second fret and tune down.

  • John uses Elixer light gauge strings, he has his guitar tuned in D-minor tuning. DADF#AD

  • Comment removed

  • It's the playing, not the strings. Just regular old Elixir lights on that baby.

  • Wow, his voice is so smooth...Incredible.

  • good play man...thanks!

can you please tell me wich tune you use=?

  • The tuning is Dminor. John Cephas is a major Peidmont/Bentonia style player out of Virginia. Look him up, buy his stuff, you'll be glad you did. Look for him under "Cephas and Wiggins."

  • Bravo! Marvelous rendition, enjoyed beyond 5 stars! ;D
