The sheet music is easy to come by. I got a copy literally 1 month ago. Fentone, Durand, and Kalmus all print this arrangement.
In terms of any criticism of the players, this is unwarranted. This is a foul piece to play for both instruments; the piano part edges the violin part for difficulty. Pulling off the piece with this level of passion and accuracy is no mean feat. This is live music, not a sanitised multi-take recording, and as such it really is a masterful performance by both players.
There might be mistakes, but it's still the best version you can find on youtube. No-one plays it with such passion, and the tempo is right (the other versions you can hear are excruciatingly slow !!!) Great job !
Okay, let me rephrase. Maybe a "lot" wasn't the best word. How about a "number"? "Few"? I don't just sit and listen for mistakes but when I'm actively listening to something, meaning I'm sort of concentrating on it and blocking everything else out, and suddenly something stands out that, how should I say, breaks that "trance" you're in, do you know what I mean now? Like driving down that glass smooth road and finding the surprise pothole! Kind of like that piano bench..."KA-RAAAAAAKKKK!!" :-p
Hey, I was giving my opinion up here just like everyone else. People there were probably paying to hear them so they should be open to criticism, I was not totally trashing them so relax.

I like the way the violinist just plays this like he knows just what he's doing, if you know what I mean. However, he gets carried away a couple times strikes the string a little too hard hitting the neighboring string resulting in this horrible sound. The pianist made a number of mistakes, mostly when he decides to get carried away with the tempo which I think hurts this more than anything else. This sounded good but the other vid up here with a girl doing her senior recital is about even.
@flyurway you know, most people haven't a clue about the 'mistakes' you cite. Why is it that everyone has to be a critic? Can't you just shut up and enjoy the music by these two talented musicians??? Let's see what you can do.
Oh, no. I'm just a Joe that's been around music to some degree for my whole life. I'm no expert on anything but I know what I like. And I usually know a mistake when I hear it, God knows, I make enough myself. I'm getting my ass torn here over a little criticism - oh the pain. I never said they sucked, in fact I think they sound quite good but you have to admit, if you don't hear a whole lot of mistakes here you're not listening.
@flyurway my eldest brother is a music professor in a college in los angeles and his instrument if the piano and my middle brother was a concertmaster for about 10 years ago when he was young and he listenend and said that he did not hear a whole lot of mistakes with the violinist or the pianist. but as i thought about the conversation here, i realized that most people listen for enjoyment, not to find fault.
Angelov won an 'honourable mention' at the 1985 Chopin Piano competition, which is not quite one of the main prizes but it nevertheless a high honour. His world class solo technique shows here. The violinist too must be in an equivalent league if not even better!
i see a lot of Shlomo mintz technique in this violin player, very alike face gestures and charm while he plays, fantastic interpretation i enjoyed it a lot.
I smell Death in the violin solo, and Yeah, the violin solo pard is supposed to be heard scary coz it was played by a devil who was summoning ghosts and skeletons. I like this one more than other versoins I had heard before!
they're both superb - SUPERB - i found this by accident - my lucky day - i like this far better than any orchestral recording - they're both so full of life - or is it death? - thanks for posting
Fantastic performance, I really adore this clip. They should record this wonderful piece! Vesko is such a good violinist. I'm happy he's the concertmaster here in Amsterdam!
I'm just not feeling this performance.
