As far as I can remember Mick Harris from Napalm Death was blasting on 'Scum' (1987) 21 YEARS AGO!!! Before Suffocation 'Effigy of the Forgotten' (1991). So I would say Mike Smith, AWESOME drummer but don't think he had a hand in originating the blast beat.

mike smith of suffocation was the first guy to use them in faster tempo music but a batterie is when you play both hands at the same time while your bass drums remain in sync with your hands so shut up learn

Mike Smith made the Suffo-blast. the TRADITIONAL blast beat is single strokes (alternating as in rlrlrlrl) with your right foot (if you want to push it like the death metal drummers of today) following your right hand at all times. right hand on a cymbal, left hand on the snare.

The traditional (RLRL alternating) and bomb (RLRL alternating with RLRL feet underneath) blasts are the only true blast beats in my opinion.

The Cannibal blast is a bit of a grey area, but the batterie/Suffo blast just sounds like everything being hit at the same time and hence not "blasty" (unless at hyperblast speeds)
