i met simon in london in 1985 he got out from his merc what he was driven in and signed his name on a bit of paper 4 me he was not driving and d band were whit him
One of the best Duran Duran songs ever made saw them when they were still nobody's in 83/84 in a small concert hall maybe 500 people want to go see them when they come here (Toronto) in October. have not seen them since 85. The good old days, even met Simon when he was dating a girl from here. Seen him in a record store and recognized him from behind by the boots he was wearing then we got his autograph. Like I said it was the good old days wish I could go back in time. Oh well
The gentleman at :47 reminds me a lot of David Sylvian with blue hair. I know its not David because he didn't go to these and I don't think he ever did blue dye.
Whoever he is, the band seem to like him. He sings the chorus with Simon and Andy at 3:28.
Love it, love it, love it!!!!! This is an homage to all of us Duranies who had each inch of our bedrooms, during our teens, plastered with DD's posters! xoxoxo Sherri
This is a priceless glimpse of DD’s first gig, filmed in summer 1980 at the Rum Runner, the Birmingham nightclub where they worked, with the final line-up that signed to EMI later that year. (Of course we’re not hearing the original live soundtrack.) The dancers are the local New Romantics and that has to be Gay John at 2:47 in drag, natch. We see him dancing in the official promo video when PE was released in1981.
When I was a kid I didn't understand the "new Romantic" fashion. It must have been more of a British thing. I never saw people dressed like that arouind here. they would of stuck out like a sore thumb if they did. No one in my high school dressed like that either.
saw these live at hammersmith when this was the single centuries ago now, and what i thought was cool hair and clothes great era for music though from the jam specials japan u2 simple minds visage ultrvox chameleons great days
I remember the transformation i went through to become a new romantic my friends laughed at me the first time they saw me dressed up but they were all punks
I see what I can only assume what passes for attractive girls today at the mall's etc wearing pajama pants and fuzzy slippers walking around dressed worse than I do when I'm working on my car or at home doing laundry..PAJAMA PANTS? SERIOUSLY? Show some pride for heaven's sake, I think being comfortable is great but really, how uncomfortable are jeans or a cute skirt? Look around you, when you see men that take more pride in their appearance than you do, something has gone very wrong with you!
It's still the 80's if you love the music and the style my friends. I remember my buddies and I raiding the local Salvation Army stores each weekend just to find cool clothes to wear for the weekend. It was mostly mens sport jackets or suits from like the '40's, wing tip shoes and whatever was funky and had flair. Today's kids kill me, most girls don't dress as nice as my crew did, forget the guys with their over-sized jeans around their ankles. No style at all. I still dress 80's.
For whatever it's worth, whether you like New Romantics or not, when you think about the (lack of) creativity now, the Lowest Common Denominator (in every type of media), having fun now, ain't what it once was. Ah - thanks for the really great video.
I bought the "Night Versions" cd probably 15 years ago and to this day if you are having a party and you put it on...................no complaints is all I'm sayin'
Sing Blue Silver-Who is with me? I would have loved to have attended their concert. I used to LOVE john Taylor and Nick Rhodes; i tried to love Simon, but i just couldn't.
i was at the rumrunner the very last night it ever opened coz it got raided when i was there for not having a late licence and no membership but have amazing memories of it . cool club then we all used to end up at the chip shop by bingley hall on the corner of broad street all gone now though.
I lived the 80's LOL. Lots of stuff was just over the top in the early 80's. At the same time you had real punks and heavy metal was the under ground music for the most part. Walking the streets dress like these guys would not go well for you.
@CreepHHI "Walking the streets dress like these guys would not go well for you." Depended on where you lived. I grew up in SoCal and you'd have been ok for the most part. But really, deviating from the norm draws attention even today in many places, so nothing's really changed.
Im 99.9% sure this is the "Rumrunner" in Brum, glass tiles on the wall, tacky glitterball off roof,in hindsight...dingy basement pimped up.Dexys and The Beat rehearsed there as well.
This is how remember the few times I went in there, you were brave to walk around Brum like these people in late 70's,early 80's Brum, times were not as liberal then, prime target for a five knuckle sandwich then.
this is the original, not the night version, the night version is longer with a longer build up to the vocals and a different guitar rift at the begining
This is one of the rare DD songs where they really use the guitar and drums to make it groove! Just love the video - thanks samegirl for letting us see it!
Feelings that cannot be described in the new millennium...they are only able to be described in the 80's....what a great time for fashion music and world affairs...... Wow ...I miss the 80's
