  • @dandyaufpferd The Rum Runner in Birmingham!

  • Omg Simon looks so different! And young! Great song and keep up the work DD :)

  • This was hot!!! Loved Duran Duran.Always.

  • ~♥~ faaabulous<3 <3 :D:D ~♡~

  • awwwwww man! their first album was just brilliant!!! I still have the U.S. and U.K. releases.

  • NIGHT RUNNER!!! CRAZY TIME WHY I WAS SO YOUNG? :(

  • The gentleman at :47 reminds me a lot of David Sylvian with blue hair. I know its not David because he didn't go to these and I don't think he ever did blue dye.

Whoever he is, the band seem to like him. He sings the chorus with Simon and Andy at 3:28.

  • Er... Never mind me... Typed in the wrong space... God I'm stupid...

  • Death note funny

  • This isn't the night version of planet earth?

  • Love it, love it, love it!!!!! This is an homage to all of us Duranies who had each inch of our bedrooms, during our teens, plastered with DD's posters! xoxoxo Sherri

  • 0:46 THE GUY IS FAB LOOKING! XXX LOVE HIS GORGEOUS MAKEUP! x

  • THUMBS UP if you LOL'd @ 2:42!!

  • Wow this footage is brilliant, Im a huge fan and have never seen footage at the Rum Runner, Simon Le Bon looks incredibly young and scruffy!

  • I can't tell you what memories this brings back - priceless videos of those who (CAN'T) remember (wink!).

Yes - this IS the Rum Runner. unbelievable.

    Thanks!

  • Pretty hip crowd. Stop by my place anytime.

  • These guys broke the window open for Madonna and Lady Ga Ga and rest All time great group.

  • Wow rare, I love it, priceless for real!

  • This is a priceless glimpse of DD’s first gig, filmed in summer 1980 at the Rum Runner, the Birmingham nightclub where they worked, with the final line-up that signed to EMI later that year. (Of course we’re not hearing the original live soundtrack.) The dancers are the local New Romantics and that has to be Gay John at 2:47 in drag, natch. We see him dancing in the official promo video when PE was released in1981.

  • I love Duran Duran's drummer. Hes a machine!!!

  • i want to be in this party with all this gorgeous new romantics. god bless the 80s!!

by far one of the best songs by duran duran. it is the spirit of the 80's glamour.

    loooove it

  • This was taped at Steve Strange's club circa 1980-81 , its over 30 years old , the new wave era 1978-1983, was a fun time in music.

  • @ramboram03

I think it's the Rum Runner, some of them are dressed too normally for Blitz :D

  • @Oxaqata

LOOL thats true actually haha, Steve Strange's club had some ostentatious patrons

  • For Durannie counters - please add 1.

  • This video reminds me of a party I was at last weekend...to bad I don't remember how I got there or who I left with.

  • When I was a kid I didn't understand the "new Romantic" fashion. It must have been more of a British thing. I never saw people dressed like that arouind here. they would of stuck out like a sore thumb if they did. No one in my high school dressed like that either.

  • Is that Gary Numan at :47?

  • WOW! Amazing video! Does anyone recognize the disco/place?

  • @gelizeche it's the rum runner club

  • @WeLoveBritBrit WOW!!! It was demolished in 1987 to make way for the Hyatt Hotel (according to Wikipedia)!

    :(

  • @gelizeche Rum Runner on Broad Street.......they were the house band for a while

  • Planet Party Music Machine/ Space craft

  • Im in this!!!!!!rumrunner best club ever

  • @kaydee23x youre in this video??? which one are you?

  • post punk and new wave was the best music scene ... their music very avant-garde . Well, pink floyd is different story !

  • this is why white people don't dance

  • @000TrueGrit000 any dance is better than the bump n grind of the urban flava , dutty wine, chav brigade, cheap n nasty .

  • @000TrueGrit000 and don't be so racist against white peeps.

  • This is NOT the night version..it's the regular version.

  • saw these live at hammersmith when this was the single centuries ago now, and what i thought was cool hair and clothes great era for music though from the jam specials japan u2 simple minds visage ultrvox chameleons great days

  • nice dance moves Simon. :)

  • the 80s were so fucked up you have to admire it

  • night version reminded me of music @supermarket those days.

  • Si's like Hyde.

  • Great video but it isn't the Night Version

  • DD til death do us part !!!!

  • I wish I had a time machine with a freeze frame button, just go back to that era and be a New Romantic till I grow old and die !!!

  • @supremeobliterator don't need a time machine. I saw them last night in Dublin :) Was awesome.

  • @gav240z Cool, you can kind of relive the era but to go back to the era is what I would do. Ahh, to be Dr Who

  • epic !!!!

  • i am in love with the doll at 2:34.... i really wish i could be there, dancing, singing, drinking and falling in love.

  • hahaa the lead singer from duran duran looks like, alex from a clockwork orange.

  • @edisdead1 lol nice !!!

  • 2:55 - shake those red leatherpants.

  • actually its the Rum Runner ;)

  • Wow i wish the new romantics where still about that looks like the best club ever modern times suck.

  • I remember the transformation i went through to become a new romantic my friends laughed at me the first time they saw me dressed up but they were all punks

  • korai 80's évek divatja buzik, bohócok, dilisek, nehezen tudnék ott oldódni

  • NEW ROMANTICS FOREVER!

NO other movement can TOUCH it!

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhh bb!

  • Slappin the bass man!

  • ...my youth... how i miss these days, how i loved this tune, that kinda music..

  • New Romantics, are still romantics, or they wouldn't be human would they ?!

  • Oh, and on a lighter note, thanks much for your videos samegirl, you have great taste..bet you don't go shopping in pajamas..he he

  • I see what I can only assume what passes for attractive girls today at the mall's etc wearing pajama pants and fuzzy slippers walking around dressed worse than I do when I'm working on my car or at home doing laundry..PAJAMA PANTS? SERIOUSLY? Show some pride for heaven's sake, I think being comfortable is great but really, how uncomfortable are jeans or a cute skirt? Look around you, when you see men that take more pride in their appearance than you do, something has gone very wrong with you!

  • It's still the 80's if you love the music and the style my friends. I remember my buddies and I raiding the local Salvation Army stores each weekend just to find cool clothes to wear for the weekend. It was mostly mens sport jackets or suits from like the '40's, wing tip shoes and whatever was funky and had flair. Today's kids kill me, most girls don't dress as nice as my crew did, forget the guys with their over-sized jeans around their ankles. No style at all. I still dress 80's.

  • could peewee herman be considered a new romantic? red bowtie and suit with lots of make up... think about it

  • could peewee herman be considered a new romantic?

  • 80s creatures of the night!perfection!

  • The 1980s was brilliant! Still enough punk around to be interesting and then the New Romantics and the return of glam. And I'm straight!!!!

  • @OverheardProductions Good luck on that 'straight' thing.

  • @OverheardProductions Oh god - yuck! :-)

  • @OverheardProductions who gives a shite if you 're straight? that was all about the 80s spirit!!!

  • @OverheardProductions 80s music owe alot to the synthesizer

  • @MrJo1340 Me too and I agree in all points. Greetings from good old Germany

  • This is not the night version! The night version starts with a brass section.

  • @the0fart0machine yep, your bang on. the real night version is crap. this one is much better lol!!

  • I wanna bring the 80's back to my school so I'm having my (best) friends that are bold enough to help me :)

  • @beatitsmoothcriminal I grew up in the 80's & I feel so fortunate that I got to be exposed to this material.

Most of today's music is pure garbage compared to the 80's

  • I didnt realize this song was out in 81, I thought it came out later.

  • I always Loved Duran Duran during their New Romantic Period in the Early 80's.

  • Cool!

  • For whatever it's worth, whether you like New Romantics or not, when you think about the (lack of) creativity now, the Lowest Common Denominator (in every type of media), having fun now, ain't what it once was. Ah - thanks for the really great video.

  • hey, what's up with the clown doing doing the shake.

  • @lionking1969 I wish I knew...

  • yeh, the 80s were great but too much big hair, hair spray and dep gel. Oh forgot the leg warmers.

  • This is a cracking tune. xx

  • I bought the "Night Versions" cd probably 15 years ago and to this day if you are having a party and you put it on...................no complaints is all I'm sayin'

  • Half of them look like Siouxsie's lost half-siblings.

  • this is Planet Earth "at the night" and not "night version" :-)

  • I like the other version better. These guys don't even look like DD.

  • Been a fan since '83...when I was 3. Gotta love Duran Duran!!

  • Sing Blue Silver-Who is with me? I would have loved to have attended their concert. I used to LOVE john Taylor and Nick Rhodes; i tried to love Simon, but i just couldn't.

    JESUS LOVES YOU!!!!

  • discoenex loves dunan forever.

  • So this is the song that inspired Clara Massa to create her notorious Global warming propaganda spam account Nightversionn.

  • i was at the rumrunner the very last night it ever opened coz it got raided when i was there for not having a late licence and no membership but have amazing memories of it . cool club then we all used to end up at the chip shop by bingley hall on the corner of broad street all gone now though.

  • i was bore in 73 so the 80s was huge for me, lucky me

  • great to play on bass.a shame they wer more known for ther looks than ther talent on the instruments

  • the best all time DD song...what a bass line!!!

  • awesome 80's stuff x

  • Ah, The Eighties, The Rum Runner & Duran Duran on their way to enduring stardom......& didn't they just deserve it? Legends of our time..........

  • omg 2:01 to 2:03 is just pure handsomeness

  • Comment removed

  • This is planet earth!!!

  • I lived the 80's LOL. Lots of stuff was just over the top in the early 80's. At the same time you had real punks and heavy metal was the under ground music for the most part. Walking the streets dress like these guys would not go well for you.

  • absolutely love it

  • Interesting video- sums up the 80s' pretty well imho- dark dismal n new discoveries.

  • super song

  • Im 99.9% sure this is the "Rumrunner" in Brum, glass tiles on the wall, tacky glitterball off roof,in hindsight...dingy basement pimped up.Dexys and The Beat rehearsed there as well.

This is how remember the few times I went in there, you were brave to walk around Brum like these people in late 70's,early 80's Brum, times were not as liberal then, prime target for a five knuckle sandwich then.

    .

  • Definitely not Dr Robert at 48 haha. Doubt he's a DD fan either

  • Happy Birthday Roger Taylor (April 26)

  • Hey javtec: That HAS to be Dr. Robert. How many hot British guys that look kind of like the singer of A-ha could there be? ; )

  • At .48 can someone tell me if that is Dr Robert from the Blow Monkey's, just a quick glance it looks a bit like him. Great song

  • That's deffo the Rum Runner in Birmingham

  • It looks like the rumrunner club in birmingham, I used to go there all the time and I recognise some of the poeple from there

  • FUC YA!!

  • Many thanks for posting you have made an old new romantic very happy. Still have some of my old clothes, just need to lose a bit of weight though !

Fantastic time to be a teenager .

  • I never seen this in the Philippines of this

  • Ah, look at all these fabulous freaks!

    What a Riot~!

  • I cant believe ive lived most of my life without seeing "all these FAB. NEW RO'S

  • this is the original, not the night version, the night version is longer with a longer build up to the vocals and a different guitar rift at the begining

  • this is footage from steve strange's club in London circa 1980-81

  • This is one of the rare DD songs where they really use the guitar and drums to make it groove! Just love the video - thanks samegirl for letting us see it!

  • "You'll see i'm right some other tiiiime!!"

  • The 80's were so great...and great bands
