The worst part about CSI and related shows is that they "inspire" people to join these professions, only to find they are so unlike how they are presented, they might as well as be 3/4 hour long infomercials for genital wart cream.
Oh wait, that's no the worst part, the worst part is how they delude peoples ideas on evidence for a crime, people who can sit on juries.
And the parts they do sort of get accurate, like analyzing spent cartridges, are teaching criminals to pick up their brass.
Not sure why you dislike the Colbert Report or How It's Made, and Bones I don't think is TOO horrible (and I like the first three seasons of Spongebob, but it was terrible after that)... For all the others, though, I totally agree. As for shows you said you liked, Mythbusters is great, FOParents is watchable, Daily Show is good and Stargate is awesome, but I haven't seen King of the Hell or Canada's Worst Driver...
See, I like House, and I agree that the formula is essentially the same with each episode (Patient gets admitted, they do stuff, it gets worse, House has revelation (both during an argument/discussion and after the 45 minute mark), they treat patient, patient either dies or lives... but mostly lives), but it's how they spin it that makes it interesting for me. I nearly crapped myself with the VG Cats reference, though, cause he does look like Dr. Hobo.
You dislike Lost?!? I must know why! It was one of the only good shows that ever came on in the last decade. You probably only watched a few episodes though...
CANADA'S WORST DRIVER? You're Canadian! They don't show that in the States! XD sorry always find it awesome when I randomly discover that someone who's work I've been admiring is Canadian too.
Anyway, similar views here, hence why I don't watch much TV anymore except for the news channel... though mostly I just rant at the stupidity of that anyway.
I do however, still watch Canada's Worst Driver and of course Mythbusters :P. NCIS isn't bad either, mostly because it doesnt take itself seriously
God, I have the same exact job and hate every accursed second of it. My least favorite comment is by the Churchies, "have a blessed day," except they say it in such a way where its like their spitting on you.
Any-who, if you want an actual show with substance I highly recommend Jericho and Ghost in the Shell. Also, I think you might hate Scrubs for the same reason I do. It's a show which tries to be silly and dramatic at the same time and fails very badly creating a turd of an episode.
You forgot the part about all the lies in House. The patient always lies to him at least once, because their problem almost always has something to do with their dirty little secret, and their reputation always seems to be more important than their life. Because a crazy hobo man knowing about their crossdressing habit is always worse than dying (bonus: Calling House a crazy hobo man works even if you like the show).
Other than reducing investigation to nothing but lab work, which takes weeks if not months to complete, instead of actual police work and deduction. Other than that the visualization of the crime in progress from some strange angle, like from inside a dead man's pee hole, are all flash and movement, and no sense or substance.
Me too. My comment was failed sarcasm. It just seems lots of people like to hate on things publicly, because they think it's cool to do so. I have a sneaking suspicion that people who do so, are secretly avid fans.
Well, the thing is, if you haven't noticed at a lot of people nowadays, they like to publicly hate things. And those who publicly hate things = Popularity if they "make sense" out of things, such as movies or games. I mean, if a movie or game .. SUUUCCKKKSSS, then everyone hates it. If one guy makes a lot of noise about it and tries to make his hated viewpoint make sense, then it makes him/her famous.
One show you should look into, even though it's a bit old, is Blackadder. Unless you're a stickler for accurate British history, then you might have some problems with it since the show takes a lot of historical liberties in the pursuit of comedy. Hell, the first season alone basically rewrote the late 1400s simple so they'd have a setting for the show. It was also the worst season of it in my opinion, but that was more how the main character was portrayed. It gets a lot better in season 2.
Try reading the book Darkly Dreaming Dexter then. I suppose if you find no merit in it you would'nt like Dexter. I personally love Dexter, and I prefer the show more than the books. In fact we own seasons 1 and 2, and as for House ,which I love, I can't possibly concieve how you don't love it. Though I do agree with Mythbusters and Stargate.
I do hate Scrubs. I'm not even sure why. I like Dr. Cox. If I could get a DVD of just Dr Cox Ranting I would be a very happy Bastan, but the rest of the show is kind of a wash.
As for Dexter, I ASSUME I wouldn't like it, although I have yet to watch an episode (I'm usually at work when it's on) so I'm not able to pass judgement on it.
Well that's surprising. You're probably just one of those people that really hates TV or the crap some TV producers try to make us watch. I know a few. Dexter is very good though. The internet is were you should be watching it though because as far as I've heard, American and Canadian commercials are annoying as hell
3: But House is one of the only good shows LEFT on TV.
Its less "risky surgery in public" as it is "try 5 things with progressively worse symptoms revealing themselves until a random comment gives him a BRAIN BLAST".
The worst part about CSI and related shows is that they "inspire" people to join these professions, only to find they are so unlike how they are presented, they might as well as be 3/4 hour long infomercials for genital wart cream.

Oh, a caveat for Stargate though... Stargate Universe sucks a big fat one... Atlantis and SG-1 are fan-bloody-tastic, though...

Yeah, House does have sub-average plots. But most of us watch it for the snark, not the overall story.

Fairly Odd Parents? And you say your sense of humour is not as... odd as Fox's?

What can I say? I enjoy a show that acknowledges its own logical shortcomings and then uses them as an additional source of humour.
