4 engines to achieve short takeoff distance and also landing as 4 engines on reverse thrust can make it really good for short runways such as london city airport for example. also they reduce noise compared to 2 engines making them better for the noise environment and are useful for freight flights late at night.

reason for 4 engines was: each of them could be small and very light. so this makes them reliably and easy to maintain.

me to just love them there realy powerfull for there size.i love the landing in london city airport in one its6degree approch angle its like dive bombing the airport

@YOUBETCHA21 It has 4 engines because that was the decision of the manufacturer, some experts say it's better to have 4 engines instead of 2, if 1 or 2 of them fail you still have 2/3 engines working and making flying possible without major hazard, with 2, if 1 of both fail you're in deep shit...;)

@YOUBETCHA21 Looks like little plane, but can fly with 112 passengers, most of planes in his size and weight category normaly don't have seat capacity above 85-90...;)
