There is so much to value and reflect in this. The driver wi9th his bag hanging up in the cab, the HST in original colours at York and the 40s of course! I have had a few Class 37s on the long run from Glasgow to York and once had the then Gateshead God of 37250 in fresh blue paint from York to the seaside and back!

Which route did the Scarbrough - Glasgow service take? Did it run round at york?

Yeah, it reversed at york. 40 185 took over from 40 124 on this occassion.

Imagine how busy Scarborough station was back then to require 2 shunters on station pilot duties.

I don't remember 40's on this working often. Eastfield no-heat duffs a plenty, and pairs of 20s on the York-Scarborough leg sometimes. 2 whistlers!!!??? Do those Scottish holidaymakers know how lucky they were?

I was as withered as you are; the Glasgow-Scarborough was a fairly regular working in the early 80s but not by two 40s!

saw the 40124 on the Glasgow on Whistling Giants , however it's good to see all the footage . Thornaby Rare Beast that I nor the Brother whose had 168 40's , have never had . Surprised 124 never fouled the platform being that big . 124 sounded superb being opened up, ten times better than that Strumming Wagon earlier in the film .Cheers that took me back

The sidings where the Box is now a bus station and super market.

In 1981 Huddersfield Guards had a Manchester Scarboro job in the summer.

Work a train out, then short rest. Work on as far as Huddersfield, relieved by a VIC guard.

These trains were SO.

Train came back via York, Leeds, Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

the box as you say,if you mean scarborough station signal box,it was at platforms 4/5 these platforms are still there not a bus station and supermarket as you say.the bus parking and car park are beyond platform 5,and the supermarket(tesco)must be over 100metres away.this comment is for fishethedish.

Good vid, have shunted Scarborough Stn many times, with Green Arrow off the NRM.

You have to take care when propelling from the sidings into no 1 platform.

Too quick you end up in the mess room.
