Sound tips. Run into your effects loop of your amp for the best sound. Run the pod on the direct setting (outer switch) when running into the effects loop. And run front stack on internal settings. This is how you'll get the loudest fullest and most punchy tone through your halfstack for playing live. Good luck!

Sound tips. Use preamp sims. Optimize the hd500 output settings for your amp. Go easy on the gain. Don't program your tones with to much bass. Always push the frequencies on your eq,dont cut frequencies. Turn the cabs and mics off. Double the amps. Pan 100% left and use the left output for mono applications.

I want to let everyone to know not to pay attention to my prior comments. These pods do sound good. I talked to line6 and I didn't have my pod updated. Turns out I had a early version of the firmware and my output frequency adjustments weren't set right. Line6 rocks

Untill line6 can get good full distortion tones at high volumes their mission fails. The blues and jazz dinosaur rockers can waste their money on these fucking tin cans with knobs. I'm so dissapointed I ordered this thing.

These things are very decieving pieces of shit just like most other pedals. Great for low volume applications or recording. But they can't do metal at live volumes. I'm glad I bought mine on installments. Its going back and I'm returning to my metal muff with a eq. It sounds better at high volumes. The pod doesn't even have a true bypass. It still toys with your tone.

The picture is a little misleading. The Master volume should be all the way up (Pilot's manual, I own this pedal). To anyone who doubts the sound, whether it's my Pignose G40V or my Mesa stack, they built this for metal heads. Yes. There may be a Best of HD500 for the first presets, but the next is Metal, then artists, then Dual Amp. Beach Boy cover bands would be disappointed. This pedal is for monsters. Love it!

@jseebold100 Have an X3Live myself. Picked up an HD500 back in early January last year, and took it back a week later. If you use dual tones, you'll have headaches with the HD500. The DSP limitations are a nightmare. I'd say test one out at a local shop and push it to it's limits of what YOU want your tone to be. I got as far as 2 amps/gate/volume pedal (yea, it's an "effect" apparently) and upon adding reverb, crap out. Delay, crap out... guh, returned.

u can try to put a od boost before amp module,try to use scream for gain 0.level 80 or 100.

I think POD HD is also good for amp's return

if u plug to amp'sinput,all sim-amp effector will have same problem----sounds thin and crap.

I record this demo for analog out to Motu HD 896.

btw I use good cable for POD HD,

maybe cable is a reason that u can't find the tone u want :p

@schlagdog Hey man, I Just wanted to Give you some info. i bought a POD HD and had the same problem where I couldn't get a good sound out of the High gain amp models. I did a flash meory update to the software and it made The models sound a Million times better! Check to make sure you don't have an old SW version. Hope that helps.

@musicgoon I already sold it. I made a whole tune using the Mesa setting that I thought I was happy with. Then I just put a SM57 in front of my actual Mesa Triple Rec and recorded the some song. After that I was extremely disappointed and sold it on ebay and made $100. I got it at cost to begin with so I turned a profile. I'm just going to get an AXEFX, the HD was just a test before I spent $2000

@schlagdog IMO,if u can't deal with POD HD, u will face same problem in AXE-FX.POD HD is just great enough for this price.AXE-FX has fatter & bigger tone than POD HD but if u dont know hot to use it u will get same result as POD HD and spend more than 1500 USD

@rd777 I tweaked it forever but in the end really didnt like the tone. Its not as buzzy as the POD XT but still to digital sounding. Plus I only ended up liking the Mesa. So the owning the HD and only liking 1 amp model in it seemed useless. I'm going to NAMM in January so my AXEFX cash may go to a new amp I find in the future.
