Personally, the grieving period hasn't yet ended. It certainly has been a number of years. I've heard all the versions but like the one by Teresa on YouTube. She has the phrasing, vibrato, dynamics, vocal graces, and timbre that this composition deserves. This in spite of the fact it was live with a mediocre Karaoke machine. Many of us share Richard's loss ....it's actually hard to talk about.
for me,it seems something is missing in claires rendition of this very beautiful song,,it lacks the softness and emotion ussually claire had in her other songs,,no offence meant i,m a certified claire fan from the 70's,dusty's version is a little better than this one.
perfecttttttttttttttttttttttttttt ! gosh i really love the song,i even use it theme song for my wedding, call me lousy,i dont care, mind your own hahaha so niceeeeeeeeeeeee to hear it thousand times
@jedc143 Yes I agree, the song is so lovely that I have been playing it over and over again too! I came across this song by accident when searching for Karen Carpenter songs. To me she doesnt really sound like Karen, perhaps she did more so when she was younger? But it doesnt matter because she has a lovely voice in her own right.
ROTFL, vocal tone quality and accent are two different things my dear. Akiko may not have the American way of pronouncing the english words, but as far as tonal quality is concerned, she's the closest thing to the original =)
Richard wrote this song 4 years AFTER Karen died, FYI, it was made for Dusty Springfield. :) and uhh "most stupidest" is not the best english as well, hahahaha
We shouldn't compare Claire to Karen. For one thing, Karen was never able to sing this song, it was not meant for her to sing it.
Also, Claire in fact is Karen's fan too.. Karen would have sang it differently of course, as each artist is different. It's just that claire was tagged the Karen Carpenter of the philippines, because she's one of the very few contra altos in the world. Karen and Claire have the same key.
Claire's phrasing on the lyrics is actually better than Dusty's was. She enunciates and expresses the words more clearly. (Of course, Karen's version would have been the ultimate, but it wasn't meant to be.) Is this song a hit in Claire's country?
with all due respect to claire but i honestly believe that Karen would have done it a hundred times better than claire and dusty. No body could beat karen
aloha everyone i loved and like this song very much.. very inspiring..and very nice lines(lyrics) your very good singer MS. CLAIRE..I really admire you . you really sounds my idol too the CARPENTERS!!
RIchard's such a wonderful and amazing composer/singer. I read that Karen was scheduled to record this song but then she died. Sing it for Karen, both this lady, who's done a beautiful job and Dusty SPringfield, may she rest in Peace with Karen.
