First time seeing this video. I've seen this game on BGG and passed it over. Now that I've seen you explain it, its now on my list of games to get. Thanks Rodney! Your videos have become a great resource!!
@turquoiseknight That's really great to hear. Glad the series helped you get a better sense of if the game would be good for you! Thanks for watching!
Very very nice review of components and rules. This is what I am looking for when researching new games. DiceTower does a good job of peaking my interest, and then you finalize it with an in-depth look look. Very nice and clear audio. Can't wait to watch actual gameplay later. Do you have a list of upcoming walkthroughs you are considering doing? Thanks.
@hyper73212 Right now we are doing a little fundraiser for our series, so that I can dedicate all my time to it. My plan is to put up a list of games I'm willing to do, and then let viewers of a certain donation amount be able to vote on the games we do next.
It will always be free to watch, of course, but donators get little perks like that for helping to keep us going. I'm about to announce my next game play series in a video I'm hoping to put out tomorrow. I'm excited about it!
Part of the game sounds like the board game Key to the Kingdom where all players are looking for a "treasure" and the one who got it would have to escape the kingdom while other players are hunting him down.
I hadn't been convinced by this game based one what I'd previously heard about it. After watching this it's now definitely on my watch list!
Also, just wanted to say thanks for these videos.
One thing I've felt the internet was missing up until now was how to plays on boardgames ...I've had a nightmare trying to figure out Vampire Eternal Struggle for instance (all I can find is the instruction manual)!
@delusionsofyou Thanks for stopping to post that. It's really encouraging. Glad this game has got your interest, hopefully the videos will help you decide if this is a good fit or not for you!
Now I'm not sure whether to go look up Vampire Enternal Struggle or avoid it, lol.
@cdiddca I have noticed this in the past, and it's something that's bothered me, but I haven't found a good solution to it. Even with the different table-cloths it produces the same result. Problematic with most DSLRs shooting video. That said, your comment inspired me to look into it a little more (since changing cameras isn't a realistic option), and I might have found a way to cut down on the moire. Let's see if it's improved in the next video. If not: sorry!
I really like D&D, but this looks ten times better then that. Every component so far looks better developed. Can't wait until we get into the actual game play.
@gasol18 The components are really nice. I'd love some models for the monsters too, but the cards work good. It is nice having all their stats and everything right there on the tile with them. Going to film the set up video today. I'm really looking forward to getting started!
This game sound very interesting, thank you very much for the long and detailed explanation mustache-man!
However, I fell asleep on the first watch of this video, it was late at night to be fair. I came back to finish the video the next day though... I think maybe because there was really not much transition and the video was just ONE long 30 minutes of you talking... I think the next time something like this are to be made again, some music/background transition would keep people attention
@funkygrue Yes, I did try to shorten up my preamble, and in the context of 30 mins it is quite short, but I think I will try to seperate it from the intro next time. Thanks for all the feedback guys, it all helps!
So if you loot gear you can use can you equip it immediately, or do you have to use an equip action? Also I was just at the Myriad Games in Manchester NH Tuesday and they didn't have this in yet!
@Draffut2003 When you loot gear you can equip it right away. Even if you are already carrying something in that slot (you just send the old item to your loot pile). The only time you need to use the equip action is if you are carryinh loot and suddenly want to equip it. I may have one of the earlier copies. This is a game I really wanted to do for the series, so I contacted the publisher and they sent me the game, which was pretty nice. Nice to see I have the jump on Dan :)
This game looks good. I've been away as small world held zero interest for me. I think it would be cool to have wrap vids. Maybe at the end of the year, give your ratings and the ratings on your kids on each game you have done a video of. Like the watch it play thing is great, but I think a re review at the end would also be cool. Anyway, planning on watching this time.
@AlexanderTF Gah! Don't want to create that impression!! See my response to Shadow, however, in addition, the reason I feel the urge to explain the series up front, is that I imagine that the typical viewer might see the 30min video length and get turned off if this is a "review". I hoped that by giving some context for the legnth they might consider sticking it out. I can see how this might come across as a sell, so I may have to rethink that approach. Thanks for good points.
I agree with Shadow850031, Rodney - it'd be nice to skip the introduction to the channel at the start of every series. A nice solution would be to put the channel intro stuff in a unique video and use Youtube's ability to overlay links to other videos. Then it's a case of "If this is your first time watching our video series then you can check out our introduction and explanation video here" and then you do one of those cheesey gestures and point to a link that you add to the video :)
@TuftySA Good idea! I hadn't considered that. That would have solved the two issues that led me to add it once again this time around (see my reply to Shadow below).
But it is worth mentioning that you did a great job! almost a half an hour of flawless rules delivery! And this game is not easy to explain. I think it is also worth mentioning that a hero does not have to accept an assist. If you are confident that you can pass a test, then there is no need to allow another player to assist you, and subsequently get to rally. Good job, and I look forward to the rest of the series!
Hate to say it, but I think I have a correction for you. You say at 25:40 that when you assist you get the free rally action even when the hero you helped out is not successful in their attempt. But I don't think this is right, in the rules it says the Rally action happens whenever a hero successfully kills a monster, disarms a trap, or assists another hero. I wouldn't call an assist successful if the player he is assisting fails in his battle (is defeated), his escape, or his disarm.
Rodney... I would like to ask you to make that introduction step where you explain what are you doing and why separately or add something to skip to the rules part straight ahead. Because I have heard it before in every new game introduction and I know these things to the bone it is extremely boring start of new series for me :). Oh, and by no means I say that it is not needed (for newcomers) just that it would be awesome to skip that part for people who already know what it is all about.
@Shadow850031 You probably aren't alone in this. I've been feeling the repitition as well. I had a couple reasons for doing it again. This is a new enough game, that I figure we'd get a lot of new viewers. And the other reason was that I have this mustache... I didn't want my default "welcome" video to be one where I looked like "this" :) So I just added this, "once again" to my first video. I agree though, for some viewers this is probabaly unnecessary!
@WatchItPlayed It is useful for newcomers (at least I think so) and it is good to start with such introduction beginning each series. Just that it might be a separate video say "Watch It Played - S04E01a - Dungeon Run - Introduction To (My Super Awesome Brand New) Series (where I explain why and how)" and then "Watch It Played - S04E01b - Dungeon Run - Rules". Or just some youtube link or something (I'm not experienced in this) called skip to the rules section that I could press to forward video
I've been interested about this game since I first saw the review and read about it on BGG. Too bad i don't have a group to play it with, since this is a game you definietly can't solo.
@Durmanski Actually, there are rules for solo play. It pits you against the monsters and the final boss. It removes the player vs. player elements, but exists as an option when you can't get a group together.
@TuftySA I hope it lives up to expectations. I found it hard not to get into all the rules once I got started. Maybe I could have spaced it out over the course of the gameplay, but now hopefully the game play videos will run much more quickly, sticking more to the action. And by action, I mean getting stabbed in the back as a pile of boulders fall from the ceiling!
Whoa, your vids are SO professionally made!

you have horribe moire on your table-cloth, and sometimes on cards themselves. You need to change your camera.
