  • This is how we SHOULD be! One race. One nation under God. Why in the hell do we keep segregating ourselves? I'm white. White as Hillary Clinton's backside. But my black family in eternity are just as precious and just as NECESSARY in my life as the white ones. God gave us our skin tones because He loves variation. So do I and so does 99.9% of everyone I have ever known. Your style, your attitude is YOUR unique thing. Let it be so and forget this whole retarded game!

  • Carlton read him his rights. Carlton is kool as hell though he has me laughing everytime he dances.

  • just out of curiousity, but if a white guy is trying to make it in a field that is mostly african-americans...and he really has a passion for it and u wanna throw in his face that he is white, "Being white isnt what im trying to be its who i am" does that work in the same problem?

  • Wills face, like, c'mon son...

  • You know, Carleton obviously was the goofball dork of the show, but when he spoke truth it was deep and he portrayed the message very well.

  • My cousin and I are white. Her best friend in school was black. This black friend got great grades, read a lot, and was well-behaved and polite. The other black girls made fun of her for "acting white."

My cousin went up to them and said, "You know you're saying that black people are stupid, right?"

It's bad enough that other people put stereotypes on us. We don't need to put them on ourselves. That's only keeping everyone stuck where they are.

  • @XpiKch3rXfRameX, very true.

  • This is my life on the regular I'm cut from a different cloth and I get victimized for it from my own kind and I wish I understood why?

  • 1:35

    Insert record scratch here

  • Like a boss...

  • 1:09 is too funny lol

  • I see some of y'all chicks liking what Carlton say and all but lets be real some of y'all black chicks wouldnt even give Carlton a chance.

  • Carlton is a prep school Bel-Air Sell out. Will is a great black guy. You always have the extreme sides of black people. Either you act and sound like a white guy named Biff, or you sound like Tequan on the corner. Just be you. Well I take it back but Carlton is naive.

  • BURN!!!!!

  • "Black isn't what i'm trying to be, it's what i am" #freshprince

  • i understand what Carlton is trying to say, but just for those people who don't have knowledge of it, black people do have their own "language" with grammar, and rules etc. Its called AAVE (African American Vernacular English) (look it up), and it created since the black people lost their original language a long time ago around the time of slavery, and they needed to distinguish themselves with a unique language.

  • whats the song playing the backround ?

  • Wow, i loved this moment! Smartest thing i ever heard Carlton say!

  • Right on CAROLTON ! Make like a bannana and SPILT!

  • Comment removed

  • YOU GO CARLTON!(:

  • I can relate, I have been told many times that I'm a sellout and a wannabe because I don't use poor grammar and I have a BA and a Masters Degree.

  • black people love ralph lauren shirts...

  • "Black isn't what i'm trying to be, it's what i am" ooo child! that's deep!

  • One of the best tv shows ever...

  • yea thats right BOOOiiiiii!!!...now lets make like a banana and split

  • i love how will always talks shit to the guy after a banks someone off. soooo jokes

  • GREAT SHOW! "He meant Barry White y'all!" LOL! Serisously though, the only color that matters is red as in covered by the blood of Christ! Peace.

  • 1:09 to 1:18... LMAO!!!!

  • /watch?v=SqPHDgjXFQU

  • Sorry I ment do things that black DON'T do

  • @Sonicfanallways You said 'white folks' -- that's steriotypical. lol, you're in, you're not a sellout! Just playin man. Well said.

  • I have experienced this sel out thing with black people. I'm black, I don't use bad grammar all the time, dress proper, do things that black people do. I mean I have to deal with more crap with black people than white folks. Sad but true. Black men should be more like Carlton

  • @Sonicfanallways Been there and done that. There are names some friends and I came up with when it comes to the folks throwing the "sellout" accusations at us. They're "n00bian", "mama Africatard", and "tofu-dashikiist".

  • @Sonicfanallways You realise you just generalised black people as illiterates and poor dressers lol

  • @Sonicfanallways youre just as bad as those black people who call you a sell out. Youre judging them by the way they talk and dress. all you should say is that you dont follow the stereotype the media portray

  • @Sonicfanallways What white bread and naive??? See your apart of the extreme black people. Either you act like a white guy, or you act like some white bread yuppy. What ever happened to being a regular black man. Like Will in the Fresh Prince.

  • @Sonicfanallways errmm YOU JUST DISSED BLACK PEOPLE!

  • @Sonicfanallways, yup. You get a lot of flak for not being "black enough", There's no such thing! What the hell is "acting black" supposed to mean, anyway? Being black is not like a lifestyle choice, it's a part of who you are.

  • it's funny how the script flipped..i know so many black people wearing ralph lauren shirts and dreaming about being apart of corporate america lol i wouldn't have it any other way

  • @Raffasaur69 yet they are still treating bad in corporate...dude its not all that

  • @pagola that's why we got to branch off and run our own shit

  • MY LIFE IS THIS VIDEO

  • carlton is funny the way he is LOL

  • Anyone know what beat this is??

  • the black dude in the background on 2:26 was like?..."nicely well said"

  • NO WAIT WILL. I GOT THIS ONE

  • My name is Carlton. And this is awesome : )

  • This has got to be one of the greatest shows... EVER!

  • the major reason why i can identify with this is because of the truth that is being spoken here. if you are are not a 40 oz drinking,ebonic-talking, ghetto hoodrat then you are suppose to be a sell-out...they still got this crap going on among the african-american nation..it's called complexionism now...

  • @jclemons1966. So in order to combat the supposed essentialism that was used against you, your recourse is to leap, headlong, into insulting generalizations of your own people??? If you're Black, your assertion makes no sense, since, theoretically, you are Black, yet your dont ascribe to any of those sort of behaviors. Whats the purpose of parroting racist whites? Oh yeah, you're white....thats why.

  • @flipgood89...i am only bringing forth information that has been brought to my attention by others who have also shared the similar views because their experiences. and it is called complexion-ism..read an article about on facebook..in fact there's a whole page dedicated to the discussion...no, i am not caucasian..check the profile..have a great day.

  • @jclemons1966 GO FUCK YOURSELF. ASSWIPE

  • @vidwatcher31951 ...why don't you show me how it's done since you been doing that every time you open up your mouth to try to talk shit to people you don't know nothing about...bloodclot.

  • 1:09 GIGGIN!!

  • LOL gotta love the 90s audience reactions. OOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!! *APPLAUSE*

  • @theycallmenavid "YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT BOY!"

  • 9 people are the real sell outs

  • Goosebumps

  • haha the music stops

  • OR, IN THE WORDS OF RICKY FROM TRAILER PARK BOYS, MAKE LIKE A TREE, AND FUCK OFF.

  • 1993. When TV had a message.

  • @andreadorbert it still does, you just have to know where to look.

  • He....He meant barry white, y'all

  • Awesome show, miss quality programs like this.

  • Gotta love the transition music!

  • GOD i love this show, WHY CAN'T IT COME BACK!

  • @MrNicktheparakeet Because the... mmm... never mind.

  • Somebody got told.

  • WIll Smith is the guy.

  • make like a tree and leave. lol

  • The acting on Fresh Prince was truly first class, check out the episode when Will's dad comes back, blows my mind every time.

  • @pugwall2 That episode got me too.

  • In the words of my illustrious cousin, we will make like a tree and leaf!

    Gotta love Will!

  • Carlton > Will Smith

  • @UBERROGO You'd rather bang Carlton over Will?

  • ooooh man i wanna watch the rest of the episode :D

  • barry white ch'all!

  • Carlton> all generic rappers talking about their big stash of money, their sexy girlfriends and how fucking better then you they are

  • Carlton is the type of character that seems more significant as time progresses when we look back on Fresh Prince.

  • @dheiraL cool fucking story

  • @dheiraL don't listen to this spammer, don't go there. that place gave my machine some kind of virus. stick to youtube instead, read the comments and learn new things.

  • Will: In the words of my illustrious cousin, we will make like a tree and leaf (leave

Carlton: I never say that! its make like a BANANA and SPLIT!

lol u gotta love carlton nd will

  • And add to the fact that Carlton has only pretty much been into black chicks his entire life, that sell-out angle really holds no water. Not that if you date other races you're selling out, but you know what I mean. =P

  • wow

  • love the message but its a wierd ep cuz will is always riding carlton tellin him he aint no brother n shit like that i think more black ppl need to b more like carlton an overachiever im like carlton and im proud to say it

  • @bahamasartits nerds and geeks run the world regardless of race.

  • @TheAwakenedHeretic that is tru my awakened brother

  • i love that beat at the end

  • dis is what i gotta deal with this episodecould really teach a lot of people

  • HEAR HEAR CARLTON!!! I've been in his spot back in my school days simply because I was not "black" enough. My music of preference was heavy metal instead of hip hop and I never spoke ebonics. Bullshit.

  • @vidwatcher31951 Dammit Vanilla Ice, it was because you were white!

  • @vidwatcher31951 ...Your assumption that the only reason you werent accepted is because you didnt "speak ebonics", reveals why you punked out. You're probably a lying ass white boy, but if not, perhaps they didnt want to kick it with you because you adopted insulting white supremacist narratives about Black people.

  • @flipgood89 OR...perhaps they didn't want to "kick it" with him for the exact reason he said: because he didn't conform to stereotypes. Why is it so hard to believe that there are black people out there who not only live up to some stereotyped image of "blackness," but also label those who don't as "sellouts?" I've had the experience as well, but in my case, some people would attribute my "quirkiness" to the fact that I was mixed...(con't)

  • @TheOnyxNightshade ....The Black community does not demand that one conform to stereotypes. Thats a stereotype in an of itself, which is promoted by racists and those with an anti-Black agenda. I grew up with Black people and I concentrated on school. I was teased, like everyone, but I was never called a sellout. Sellout comes into play when black people start idealizing and identifying with other races and cultures, to the point where they create emotional distance from their own people.

  • @flipgood89 Don't put words in my mouth. I never said anything about the Black community as a whole, I was talking about individual black people that think this way. I'm very aware that MOST of us are more educated than that, but there is a VERY vocal minority that will freely throw around the term "sellout" just because a brother listens to Rammstein instead of Run-DMC.

  • @TheOnyxNightshade ....well, then you need to better analyze what exactly it is that you're responding to. My initial conversation was challenging the idea that "if you dont speak ebonics or act like a thug, then black people will call you a sellout" sentiment. Of course individuals are individuals --- idiocy is cross cultural, but the idea that the aforementioned is something that is a staple in Black communities is false, and patently racist. You challenged what I said. So what u sayin'??

  • @flipgood89 My initial response to you came out of your initial response to vidwatcher31591. You were not trying to hear that other Black people didn't want to hang out with him because he exhibited behavior that is stereotypically "non-Black." No, you went ahead and accused him of either being a lying white or a self-hating Black. By doing that, you didn't just imply that black people calling other black people sellouts isn't a staple of the Black community (which I agree with; it isn't)...

  • @flipgood89 (cont'd)...you implied that such behavior didn't exist AT ALL, and that if anyone DID question his blackness, it was on HIM and not the narrow-minded people who were teasing him. It was because HE was doing something wrong. That was what I took umbrage with, and if that's not what you meant then perhaps you should choose your words a bit more carefully next time.

  • @TheOnyxNightshade ....vid watcher was fine until he/she said "i never spoke ebonics" that a dead giveaway right there.....Black people generally dont accuse one another of speaking "ebonics" unless they are joking. Either vid watcher is full of self-hatred, and has an agenda, or that person is white.

  • @flipgood89 I don't see how someone saying that they didn't speak a particular dialect of English is a "dead giveaway" of anything other than having some knowledge of linguistics. Vidwatcher didn't use the word "ebonics" as a pejorative term, he simply used it to describe how he DIDN'T speak as a child, and out of all the terms he COULD have used, "ebonics" is actually the best, most descriptive term since when you hear it, you immediately know what he's talking about.

  • @TheOnyxNightshade Thank you, Nightshade! That's all I was trying to say. It's no wonder I no longer post comments on YouTube videos. The hateful remarks are tiresome.

  • @flipgood89 (cont'd)...which is just as offensive. My multi-ethnic heritage does not determine how black I do or do not "act" (as if such a thing exists in the first place). Fortunately, this only came from a select ignorant few and I have plenty of black friends who know and understand that, just like Carlton said, Black isn't what I'm trying to be, it's who I am.

  • @flipgood89 Wow, you truly are a dumbass, aren't you?

  • @vidwatcher31951 ....YUP! A dumbass that doesnt stereotype my own community as being nothing but a bunch of ebonics-spouting idiots. The kind of dumb ass that doesnt subscribe to racist canards of the dominant institutions.

  • @vidwatcher31951 You hit the nail on the damn head man. I'm half african american and I love rock and always have. Its a shame individuals we all have to be stereotyped instead of having the freedom of being ourselves without being judged.

  • FUCK GLENN PLUMMER

  • This is one of those moments that makes this show so memorable. The writers those days weren't afraid to address the real problems of today's society. Shows today just try to capture audiences with no real meaning.

  • Very raw, true & serious episode! Carlton is the MAN, and I LOVE when Uncle Phil says..

"I've worked very hard to provide my family with a good life, and suddenly somebody tells me there's a penalty for success....When are we gonna stop doing this to eachother?"

    I Love This Show!

  • 93? I was 4 when this came out! Will Smith still looks exactly the same? What the hell?

  • anybody know what song is playing in the background. it's reminiscent of roger and zapp but not exactly. that bass line is sick.

  • how they just gon cut the music off like it was a big fight at first lol

  • oh maaaan. <3

  • 1:08 hahahhaa carlton was straight GIGGIN!!!!!

  • 0:13 fucking EPIC lmAo!!!

  • this could not be any more true

  • favourite moment of the entire tv show

  • @ Deezvids

    THANK YOU

  • Even tho Will & Carlton constantly ripped into each other, they always had each other's backs when push came to shove :)

  • ROCK ON, CARLTON!!! :-D i spent my entire youth being ridiculed, bullied by my own kind & called "Oreo"... all simply because I failed to conform to the black stereotypes. I grew up loving heavy metal & wearing band T-shirts & ripped jeans. I never spoke ebonics. I have no regrets or apologies for who I am.

  • @deezvids ...Your assumption that the only reason you werent accepted is because you didnt "speak ebonics", reveals why you punked out. You're probably a lying ass white boy, but if not, perhaps they didnt want to kick it with you because you adopted insulting white supremacist narratives about Black people.

  • 1:08 - 1:19 ROFL!! LMFAO!!! LOL!!!

  • When I saw this episode, I gained a new found respect for Carlton and all of my brothers and sisters as a whole! It made me realize that black is just a color not a way of life.

  • I can relate to Carlton I'm black and because I use proper grammar and went to college, a lot of other black people think I want to be white, I'm like wow okay and this coming from people who look black as me.

  • @honeegrrl exactly! We should not have to put up with that nonsense. ROCK ON for being you!! :)

  • CARLTON FUCKEN OWNS THAT FOO!!!

  • does anyone know the song?

  • Carlton lays down the law on these n00bians! :)

  • Four people don't know how to stick together.

  • If i learned anything from Fresh Prince it's always be proud of who you are.

  • Carlton killed it @ 1:08 LMAO

  • @McKoyjb LMAO...NO HE DIDNT..IT GOES WITH IT..THE GIRL LIKES IT..LOL

  • @mpk09 I meant that in a good way. lol

  • @McKoyjb OH YEAH...LOL..THOUGHT SO

  • This is an amazing way to show the world who you are! I Love this speech by Carlton.

  • Wow, this sure speaks to me.

  • I've had to deal with these same kind of issues. Not to the extreme of Carlton, but I'm black and I live in the suburbs, and I've had to deal with more b.s. from other blacks than I've ever had to deal with from whites. It's always this "uncle tom" nonsense. Such a shame we as a people continue to be crabs in a barrell.

  • Carlton would make a good Kappa though! YO NUPE! YO!

  • Carleton sure told that guy

  • Besides Will kinda bullies Carlton, they're still the best friends :D

  • what does will say att @2.36 ?

  • @Adnan33333 He says "In the words of my illustrious cousin, we gonna make like a tree and leave."

  • @joemama1592 yeh a do

  • iagree wit chu 100%

  • @JOEMAMA totally agree

  • Aye Thats OG Bobby Johnson from South Central!!!

  • This has to be one of my favorite scenes in Fresh Prince, just because of how awesome Carlton is for sticking up for himself, especially when being bothered by the fact he's discriminated against because of his having such a good life that his dad had to work hard for. Thumbs up ALL THE WAY for Carlton.

    Bryon

  • Carlton is right I really hate it when people call you a sell-out when you try to better yourself. Best line "being black isn't what I am trying to be it's what I am". I love these sitcoms TV is terrible today there is nothing of substance only a bunch of badly made reality shows.

  • @ProudtobeaCanuck I agree. They don't make TV shows like this anymore! I miss the 90s, for real!

  • @ProudtobeaCanuck I'm sorry, I think you forgot your punctuation.

  • @redthunda69 you showed him!!

  • @redthunda69 Well 221 people understood my post, so I don't think they were bothered by my punctuation. But I'm sure you feel better now :)

  • Top Dog= Future Missouri President

    Cartlon=Ken Gladney

Why doesn't the Federal NAACP do what Will instanly did here?

Shame on you NAACP for making bogus claims of racism against Tea Party movement while defending, justifying and ignoring actual racism from SEIU

  • Will Smith would not have been as good without Carlton by his side

  • Anybody know the name of the song? Sounds like a remix of More Bounce To The Ounce.

  • you tell him carlton

  • "Make like a tree and leave."

    Best quote ever

  • It's too bad Super Uncle Tom in denial, "Top Dog" s*^t didn't get his ass kicked.

    Cartlon was right,

  • this just shows that black people have no unity... if one black succeeds he is now considered a sellout??? Smfh

  • foo got owned!!! LOL.....

  • Maybe it's because I like Barry Manilow...he meant Barry White y'all!

  • @Dustinluva07

Barry Manilow sucks and I'm White. The wrong Barry passed away. LOL

  • @kevyster Why does Barry Manilow suck ?......he has several good songs......have you ever heard him ?

  • @Jacobrester Becuase he's an untalent hack and I have heard of him and his songs that's why he sucks. Manilow can't hold a candle to the late Barry White. He can't even make a good song when written by someone else. I'd stick to "Take a walk on the wild side" over his inane "Emony/Ivory" crapola song anytime.

  • Carlton's family is rich because his folks busted their asses to earn what they have.

Carlton lives among prestigious people and he's proud to be in that environment and has no regrets towards working hard for what he wants.

Carlton follows his own state-of-mind about life instead of being a follower to someone else's whim.

Sorry Top Dog, but I fail to see anything in that list that labels him as a sell-out. When you tally it all up, Carlton's success is not a penalty...it's a reward.
