No, Bazompora, I originated it. What evidence do you have that I got it from someone else? Have you seen it attributed to someone other than Brad Reddekopp?
He gave you a fucking compliment NoDeity and you act like a child. It is mine! Big deal if you made it up. It is not very different than other quotes. And how the fuck was he to know if you originated it? You fired off when you could of just said Thanks, but I actually originated it. So fucking defensive... get over it all fucking ready
Why can't we just establish that I'm an ayouoriginatedthatphraseist and that, so far, you failed to come up with conclusive evidence to obtain my faith in your claim?
But I have to give you this (... again ... of course ... but thus not in between the lines this time):
if you originated the phrase, then it is well found;
Several hundred years ago the idea of an iron core surrounded by magma creating a magnetosphere which protects a planet must have sounded hilarious. And even though it sounded funny to many, it was still true. But because people could not yet fathom that truth, they laughed.
@UrbanFarmboy The difference is that modern ideas about the earth's core came into being because of testable scientific evidence whereas religion came into being through fear, superstition, and an inability to comprehend the world as it actually is.
I respectfully disagree. Im not saying that religion wasnt propagated through fear, but that's not why it was created, and that's not what its about. And science is often right, but it is limited to things that can be replicated at will. Jump through hoops if you will. I personally wouldnt want a God who was so limited. If people are looking for evidence though they just need to look at physics. Theoretically each universe would have a different set of physics, of universal laws.
@UrbanFarmboy Yes, I've heard of the idea that if there are multiple universes, each one might have different physical laws. In what way do you see that as evidence for God?
You'd think that, if such a being existed, there would at least be indirect evidence of it, especially if God frequently intervened in the natural order as described in the Bible.
This being the case, there is absolutely no reason that our set of laws would turn out this way. There are an infinite amount of different ways our univeral physics could have turned out. Yet they turned out like this. If you change any of our universes laws even a little, then the universe could not support life. For example, if our "Gravitational Constant" was just the slightest bit more "powerful", then cells would be crushed under their own weight. Also...
If objects of mass were not drawn to each other than there would be universal chaos. There are millions of other examples. In truth, there is absolutely no reason why our set of physics is the way it is. Yet it is. Basically the only set of physics which could accommodate life, and we have it. This is curious because like i previously stated, there is no reason that we should have our laws the way they are. And in truth, there are an infinite amount of other possibilities.
@UrbanFarmboy Actually, we don't know how many ways the universe could have turned out. Perhaps there are infinite possibilities or maybe it could only have turned out as it did. That means that we cannot say what the odds are that it turned out as it did. Your argument is debunked.
@NoDeity In addition, some theoretical physicists posit that our universe is part of a vast multi-verse in which there are a great many universes. So, even if it is true that there are a great many ways that a universe can turn out, one would expect that at least a few of those would have the right characteristics for life. We, of course, would be on one of those.
@NoDeity Furthermore, we don't know the limits of life. Here on earth, there is life in places where one would never expect to find it. Do a web search for "extremophiles".
And that only covers "life as we know it". Who's to say that, under different physical laws, even weirder forms of life might come into being?
In general, the point I'm trying to get across to you in these messages is that your argument for the existence of God makes too many unsupported assumptions and so it fails.
Im afraid my argument hast been debunked. Do you know anything about String Theory? The believe that there are a few universes like soap bubbles,able to separate or to merge forming new universes.Absolutely any scientist you talk to will tell you that the laws of physics would be different in each universe.Even the scientists who do not believe in string theory will tell you that physics would be unique to each universe.No offense but, You dont sound like you know alot about science.
@UrbanFarmboy I'm familiar enough with string theory to know that many find it to be mathematically compelling but that, for various reasons, it has not yet been tested empirically. So, you are not justified in treating it as fact in an argument. The fact remains that we do not know how many ways the universe could have turned out and, therefore, you cannot say how likely or unlikely it was that it would turn out as it did.
@UrbanFarmboy Now you have defeated your own argument. If, as you suggest, there are many universes, it is likely that at least a few of those would turn out in such a way that life would be likely to appear in them. So, obviously, the only beings that would notice how extraordinary their universe is are the ones that were in one of the life-supporting universes. Nothing about that requires the existence of any sort of god.
I havent defeated my own argument. You arent even listening to me any more. What I said is that Nothing in our universe requires us to have our set of phyisic. We just do. And if there are other universes they would be bound by different sets of physics. The thing is our set is the only set that can accommodate the existence of cells. Dont you remember what I said about gravitational constant, attraction, repulsion, cells collapsing under their own mass, or matter being ripped apart?
@UrbanFarmboy Yes, I understand what you're saying. Have you made an honest effort to understand what I'm saying? I'll try again:
If there are a huge number of universes, it is likely that at least some of those would have conditions favorable to life. So, naturally, the only beings that would notice how their universe is remarkably suited to life would be the beings that could exist, meaning that they are in one of the life-supporting universes. We notice it because of where we are.
No I have. Do you know what, I am very pleased that we are able to have a polite conversation about this. So often people just yell at each other. Thank you for showing me me respect. I do understand what you are saying. And in this universe, I agree with you. In this universe multiple planets could have conditions that accommodate life. But thats only because gravitational constant is what it is. Its because objects of mass attract each other. Its rather miraculous. A universe...
would have to have identical physics to our in order to accommodate any kind of organic life. And it wouldn't make sense for two separate universes to have identical physics. I suppose if you can conceive of living beings made of some sort of energy, those other universes could theoretically support them. If that was even possible. But The universes would not be able to support organic life, and most likely not life made of any type of matter. - I have enjoyed our exchange
@UrbanFarmboy I'm not saying that another universe would need have the same physics as our universe.
I'm saying that, if the number of universes is unimaginably large and if the physics vary between universes, then it is almost inevitable that some of those universes would have physics capable of fostering life. Life could only arise in a universe capable of fostering it and we would necessarily be in one of those universes.
There's nothing miraculous about it. Rather, it's expected.
We seem to be missing each other. The best thing to do would be to just part ways at this point. Take care of yourself though. And I mean that sincerely.
@UrbanFarmboy I honestly don't see any flaw in my logic. I'd prefer to come to a mutual understanding of exactly where is the "missing" but, if you prefer to stop, I will accept that.
If anyone is certain in their belief then they should have no problem to pick up and read the Quran with an open mind while ignoring public criticism.

STOP this your defeatist ARGUMENT. The name of the Book or God is not ESSENTIAL.

ALLAH and QURAN and its HADITHS TEACH

@NoDeity

NoDeity 1 year ago
@UrbanFarmboy Now you have defeated your own argument. If, as you suggest, there are many universes, it is likely that at least a few of those would turn out in such a way that life would be likely to appear in them. So, obviously, the only beings that would notice how extraordinary their universe is are the ones that were in one of the life-supporting universes. Nothing about that requires the existence of any sort of god.

@NoDeity
UrbanFarmboy 1 year ago
@UrbanFarmboy Yes, I understand what you're saying. Have you made an honest effort to understand what I'm saying? I'll try again:
If there are a huge number of universes, it is likely that at least some of those would have conditions favorable to life. So, naturally, the only beings that would notice how their universe is remarkably suited to life would be the beings that could exist, meaning that they are in one of the life-supporting universes. We notice it because of where we are.

@NoDeity

UrbanFarmboy 1 year ago
@UrbanFarmboy I'm not saying that another universe would need have the same physics as our universe.
I'm saying that, if the number of universes is unimaginably large and if the physics vary between universes, then it is almost inevitable that some of those universes would have physics capable of fostering life. Life could only arise in a universe capable of fostering it and we would necessarily be in one of those universes.
There's nothing miraculous about it. Rather, it's expected.

@NoDeity
We seem to be missing each other. The best thing to do would be to just part ways at this point. Take care of yourself though. And I mean that sincerely.
UrbanFarmboy 1 year ago
@UrbanFarmboy I honestly don't see any flaw in my logic. I'd prefer to come to a mutual understanding of exactly where is the "missing" but, if you prefer to stop, I will accept that.
