The actual cover showed for this youtube clip is the who`s first album, which doesnt contained "Circles". Furthermore the BEST version ever of this track are to be found on an EP called "Ready steady who". Far better than this version.
@pbstratocaster Actually, the recently released 2 disc deluxe edition of My Generation has Circles on it, along with several other great tracks (I Can't Explain, Leaving Here, and an alternate version of Heat Wave to name a few). Well worth the money.

my favorite Who song is Circles. to me it is so fantastic. i mean, Quadrophenia is my favorite album, i know Who's Next is the best, but this song is, without a doubt, my favorite. THANK YOU!!! <3
@MaryMungoAndMidge1 I know of 3, there's one which is a totally different recording (it was remade by the band after they parted with Shel Talmy) and the 3rd version i think is this recording but with added brass. The remade one also has brass and is available on the CD "Two's missing"
@DrHogfan I don't think one exists! Not sure if they ever did this, if they did it wasn't for long so I doubt we'll ever see footage of them playing it.
Just read the sleeve notes off of an old tape i have kicking around called Twos Missing. John entwistle commented that this was supposed to be the B side for Substitute and they changed the name to instant party to avoid a legal row with an ex producer. It didnt work and in the end was replaced with waltz with a pig which they brought from the graham bond organisation
This song's proper title is "Circles". ("Instant Party" was a title that was invented by the record label). This is the original mono mix, which has the French horn part. The 2002 Shel Talmy stereo mix removes the horns, and also has a couple slightly different vocal parts. There's also an alternate mono mix on the 2008 Japan "My Generation Box" (it's basically the same as the original mono mix but the fingerpicked guitar solo at the end is very prominent).
theres another version on the Ready Steady Who ep which was used as the flip of Substitute on a few early copies...then ihe title was changed to Instant party..that was quickly withdrawn and replaced by Waltz for a pig...you couldnt move i 1966 for Who singles...a legal matter for sure
my granddad bought the original my generation album when it was first released this track was not on it this song then was a b side he had on Brunswick legal matter he stands to be corrected on that. He bought a single same time as the My generation album back in 1965 which was The Small faces All or Nothing
I remember listening to this as a teenager in the 70s. This album (which even then was a bit 'vintage') was in our regular after-school-get-high-and-listen-to-albums rotation. My cousin theorized it was called "Instant Party" because it instantly makes you want to light a joint. =:-) Ah, pleasant if slightly cloudy memories. Such a great sound. Classic! Thanks for posting.
Keith's drumming is sublime. it makes the hairs on my form become erect. Utterly beautiful

I love The Who so much! More than I love Beatles and rolling stones together >.<
Circles, my head is going round in circles
My mind is caught up in a whirlpool, draggin' me down.
Time will tell if I'll take the homeward track
Dizziness will make my feet walk back, walk right back to you...

Keiths drum work is superb on this outing ... one of my WHO faves.

I hate how people only notice My Generation, Pinball Wizard, and Won't Get Fooled Again. This deserves more attention.

I think Keith Moon makes this song work. It seems like everybody is just following his lead.

This song he said was revamped as the b side of substitute on the blue reaction label in the uk which was spoilt by the french horn in the middle 8.
