Oh my GOSH that was an awesome movie. Christopher Walken looked so young then, it's amazing! :)) he's gotta be one of the greatest actors of all time. Respect the classics, hands down.

We can sure use a guy like Johnny in today's shitty world to foresee what's goin' on with this Barack the Obamanable Snowman screwing the American people with his communist politics!!!
@grumpypant.i m sure that s what john would see, should he shakes hands with obama.i had myself a vision.it lasted for about half a second, looking down on a highway,i saw burned cars and roads.
Walken does maybe his best performance in this great little movie, in which he plays the ultimate outsider. He's always looked the part, but here he underplays, and it's more effective than going over the top. The supernatural stuff is incidental anyhow; the flick is really about what might have been, and how you cope with that.
Awesome. Anyone that's experienced heartbreak can relate to this scene. I esp. like how Walken tries to use deep-breathing to keep from losing it in front of his student after closing the door. Who among us hasn't done that? And to think, to him, it was practically yesterday they were engaged.
This, along w/ Walken in "At Close Range" remain two of my all-time fave movies, and i try and turn my friends on to them @ any chance (they usu roll their eyes when they see they're 80s flicks...lol).
Yeah, in the novel the kid was like 16 and not wanting to study. Johnny sees a vision of a fire at a place where the seniors go to party after graduation.
Very sad movie with a scenario which could happen to anyone. Not the psychic scenario of course, but being in a coma for years and coming out of it to see your love having moved on :/
I agree, it happen to me. I returned from the military eight years ago and saw pictures of my ex-girlfriend's wedding. She had her arms around a new love. All this happen within two years span after she broke off the relationship. I felt my life was on hold, while everyone's just went on.
the people who fight for our freedom are so easily forgotten and trodden upon. your act of sacrifice is noble and honorable- at the same time tragic. I'm not usually a sap for veterans but that just kills me.
i cry everytime , it's so sad, great film, and great christopher walken !!!

To me, that image of the boys sinking to the bottum is far more disurbing then Dodd eating his scissors.

Why do they change so much?? Sarah was blonde, his student wasnt Chris, it was Chuck, and he was 18 lol.
Just one of the many things they could have kept the same as the book and made it better in my opinion.

The book & the film are both really good with a depressing ending. The better is to watch the film first & to read the book then.

The television series was also phenomenal.

Some of the best films came out in the 80's, unlike most of the steaming turd's being pumped out of H-wood. I am proud to have been part of that era.

the book is amazing! i bet the movie is going to be terrible.

No, the movie is awesome. One of the best of the 80's. And Walken gives one of his better performances. And Martin Sheen gives his best performance.
drubber1234 3 years ago 3
ok. how well does it follow the book though? that's all i'm really concerned with.
bassist6161 3 years ago
I couldn't tell you, as I've never read it. But it's a damn fine flick, even if it's not faithful to the book.
drubber1234 3 years ago
fair enough. read the book thought, it's amazing. i really loved it.
