  • Do You Have The Mulch Kit On Or Do You Just mulch into the discharge

  • @metalmulisha265 I made my own discharge chute stopper plate. It's amazing what will "disappear" under the deck. My fav is soda cans. lol.

  • yep i use the steel to make some of the best throwing knives in the world, cold steel better watch out, ha

  • they make a great knife too

  • @redlinebo LOL, yes. If I was going into battle and I could only bring lawnmower blades, then yea, I'd bring one. Maybe tape up one side and try to form a handle. Never thought of that.

  • Have you seen the youtube video for the Heliblade? Do you think its better than most regular blades?

  • I noticed in the latest documentation, that the Oregon G6 Gator blades boast a 3" width and .250" thickness now. Can anyone confirm this? If that is the case, then what advantage would these mamba mulching blades then have? I just ordered a new set of the Gator G6 blades, so I'll double check the measurements and make sure it isn't a documentation error. Gonna put 'em on a Z445 54".

  • @9b8 Aha, if gator has gone to those dimensions then the Mambas really wouldn't have an advantage. Possibly price only but I don't know the price comparison.

  • @Toppervision1 I'll let ya know when I get them, then. And in general, it seems Oregon make quality blades, they don't skimp on much. I'm liking the sounds of their "fusion edge" technology, but it will be my first set, and I mow in some pretty rough shit sometimes. We'll see.

  • @9b8 Ha, yes, we're all mowing thick stuff lately. Customers like to wait as long as they can. Which was the main reason why I had to go with these type of blades. They really do the trick.

  • @Toppervision1 Whoops, almost forget. So yeah I got the new Gator G6 blades and measured them, and indeed they are a full 3" wide, 1/4" thick, and also has a longer cutting edge half way up the blade. They also feature Oregon's "fusion" technology to help further harden the blade edge. So far I like them, and definitely notice a difference with the blade weight - powers through thick patches and bahia type grass a lot better. But they do like engine power to keep the extra mass spinning.

  • @9b8 Oh yea, it is definately harder on the engine to spin these but the cut is worth it. Do watch your engine temp when cutting the thick stuff though. I just about overheated the other day. But I was mulching pine cones! It was awesome!

  • @Toppervision1 Yeah, I've noticed them being more demandig on the engine, but worth it indeed. I have almost 4 acres of my own yard to cut, dotted with pines, oaks, and heh, some cypress knees. Those cypress knees dont stand a chance with these jokers - all you hear is a "romp" and that's it. Just wanted to clarify about those G6 Gator blades so that folks reading the comments are informed. I dont think I'll bother buying the mambas since the Gator G6 blades have implemented the same features.

  • @9b8 Could you let me know where you got the blades, I have the same mower and cannot get the blades in Australia.

    Thanks

  • @pipingmad11 Sure thing. I just checked my order history and I got my set of 3 on ebay for 65USD shipped (within the US). The blades I got are the Oregon G6 model 396-719, which fit the Z445 54" deck. 18 7/8" diagonal length, 13/16" hole, 3" width and .25" thickness. You can also get them on Amazon. Shipping to Aussieland will be your big issue.

A bit pricey but worth it compared to the stock blades. They really sling with the added metal and will handle some tough shit.

  • @pipingmad11 Also, if you have other mowers you may like to outfit, you can download the look-up parts catalogs from Oregon's site. YT won't let me post a link here, but you can google 'OREGON blades by OEM' and it should be the first link or so.

I used the look-up by Manufacturer PDF to determine mine.

    Hope that helps. Cheers. :)

  • @9b8

Yes, the G6's are 3" wide which allows for a taller "sail", which as I'm sure you know, creates more air flow (suction). I got my first set last week and they work great.

  • @StanWilhite Yup, I've been loving mine! But on my modest little Z445 54" cut, they DO tax the engine more when you get in the thick stuff or if you cut 2" and tighter. For my own yard, I normally cut at 2.5". But it chews through sticks and pine cones like a scolded dog! I don't even HEAR it when it mulces pine cones anymore. All I see it is some shredded shit spit out the side whereas before, the stock blades would just bat the hell out of them and clang like hell. Money well spent.

  • I just ordered the high lift the jthomas and got them today. Did you sharpen them as soon as you got them.? They seem kinda dull.

  • @Akrowdya64 You know what, I didn't sharpen them and yea, they did have a dull edge from the factory. They're sharpened now. tough to balance. What do you think of J Thomas as a company. They run hot and cold for me.

  • @Toppervision1 I have only ordered twice from them. The first time they kinda screwed my order up, but they gave me my money back. And yesterday I just got my mowerblades. Everytime I have called them, they are easy to talk to and not like other companies where they are complete pricks.

  • @Akrowdya64 Yea, you know, that really does sum it up with them. They screw the order up pretty much every time, but the are friendly and make good on it. I was at my wits end with them one time when they were changing their computer system over. They literally charged me a thousand bucks for a $20 part. But like we just said, they make it right when you call them. They have communication issues in their office I think.

  • Interesting info on blades.... I just have a cheaper push mower with regular blades. Those Mambas look mean LOL! If I had a huge yard I would look into something bigger and better but it really isn't worth it for me. Now if it were something I did for a living I think I would want those Mambas :-)

  • @MoviesMusicNature Oh yea, hey, I'm always cutting into grass that's literally a foot high. I need blades like these but the regualr homeowner would rarely buy them. I do know a guy who did it though!

  • Those blades look the business! Also I love to hear feet and inches instead of centimeters. I was brought up with this stuff but good old Europe forced us to accept their way of doing things (when I'm measuring up for DIY I still use feet & inches because I'm a bit of a renegade...).

  • @alanstarkie2001 Oh really, England went metric? I didn't know that. Didn't our feet and inches actually come from England?
