  • get a fucking shock mount...or stop punchim the table -.-

oh and get your facts right....

  • The virginity is strong in these ones...

  • 400mbits for 3.0? TROLOLOL DISLIKE

    get your facts right

  • I think Intel will promote Thunderbolt, because USB is from intel too. So Intel will promote its new standard.

  • @apcorom external Gpus are coming to mac with thunderbolt very soon! yeah!

  • Chris, what monitors do you use for your workstation?

  • I'm guessing the two will co-exist and be split mainly into consumer and professional use, just like USB and Firewire were. There's no doubt that TB is technologically superior, but consumers will likely pick what works with all their old devices and is readily available. When Intel supports this at a chipset level on all new systems, then we'll see TB take off.

  • pls make a vid about Java vs Javascript :)

  • @alydhiends lol? java is a programming language to make programs, games etc and javascript is for websites..

    nothing more to it

  • @3628800258 I know that very well. I just want someone to make a video about it since I know some people interchange in using the word for the other & say they're the same thing. :)

  • Universality should be the driving factor...not speed. Especially if this is meant to replace connectivity for things such as digital cameras, ipod/mp3 players, printers, mice and keyboards etc. None of these devices need anywhere NEAR Thunderbolt speeds so it becomes a moot point...though it gives people a hard on to think in high numbers. Its a bit like getting excited about all cars coming with a 200 mph speedometer...useless except for a very very tiny number of applications.

  • Chronofusion desperately needs to get laid.

  • Thunderbolt only supports 8 ports. USB 3.0 supports up to 127 devices in peer-to-peer configuration.

  • I can't wait til thunderbolt stuff being very cheap so normal people can afford it

  • @sindekit Thunderbolt will go down eventually just like FireWire.

  • Since it's made by intel does that mean It won't work on AMD's? because that would just be cruel xD

  • ............So

  • @yungpitbull when we are talking about speed its about bits not bytes

  • does it bother anyone else that he says giga bits...

  • @yungpitbull nope. because speed of data transfer is measured in BITS..not bytes. your internet connection from your isp is measured in BITS. example in ms 6mbps 8 mbps 16 mbps ( until docsis 3.0 is available if it already is not) you divide the amount by 8 to get the MAXIMUM bytes of data you can move in a given second theoretically. powerboost helps alittle. it's a strange game..yes i agree.

  • @chronofusion you got me!

  • you guys need to get laid

  • @SuperKdogg17 you need to get a life. chris already has a gf ya dumb tard. if you had watched the past 4 videos you would have already known that. as for brandon.i dont know..i dont care. that's his business. why are you interested in their sexual life? here's a hint. when you make such dumbass comments you only do one thing beside makes your self sound or look stupid. You illustrate your insecurities. This isn't a group therapy meeting..it is a computer tech coherent video. learn COHERENCE

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperKdogg17 you need to get a life and I'm not your friend, dumbass. move on idiot troll. you will never be in demand nor will you're constant need to get laid. do not reply. the conversation is over. ya lost before you typed your first letter of your 1st word. No one here is interested in providing therapy to help you with your sexual issues. This is not a group therapy session, this video deal with computer tech things. COHERENCE learn it. move on.

  • Chris vs Brandon, Go! Oh wait Chris got rid of Brandon, so we won't see that video.

  • @CassiopiaPC chris got rid of brandon..ah..since when? lol. last i checked I am STILL getting ( on same day) video reminder emails through youtube about brandon and pirillo "this vs that".

  • @chronofusion Those are all pre-recorded. If you watch the livestream you know these were shot weeks ago.

  • @CassiopiaPC sorry. I dont have the time to watch his livestream let alone keep up with everything coherent to pirillo. I do very well keeping up wtih the youtube video updates dealing with lockergnome alone. I have way too much going on.

  • I weirdly find Lockergnome really hot...

  • STOP BANGING THE DESK! AGH!

  • these guys are clearly hardcore gangsters

  • Chris has used windows way be for mac he was a Windows 6.5 user back be for iphone

  • Use the cables you save to hang yourself.

  • STOP TALKING SO SLOW!!!!

  • @BenJamminAmes They can't as most of the people that make these things don't speak english..... I would say stop hitting the fu**ing table it is SO annoying.

  • ..............//////////

  • USB will be around for years to come as USB 2.0 devices are cheap to make and because of the fact USB 3.0 Ports can use a USB 2.0 device it will help to bring USB 3.0 devices down in price.

  • This has answered many of my questions. Thank you.

  • Thunderbolt is FireWire shit

  • USB 3.0 has 5Gb not 400Mb. USB 2.0 had 480Mb.

  • How good is S Video quality

  • I wonder if the dude with glasses has ever been laid?

  • @waljayo He has a girlfriend, so yeah, I'd imagine..

  • @waljayo hes also been married soooo

  • Ugh. He said "NIC card". smh...>_<

  • Im sure my computer will end up having both so I'll be happy with it.

  • i dont think thunderbolt will win, mainly because usb is more widely known and there are millions upon billions of usb gadgets, compared to a handfull of thunderbolt devices.

  • its kind of funny how MS vows to have tightly integrated USB3 features in Windows 8 when thunderbolt is apparently ~10x faster ... it's like microsoft is doomed to lag behind competition in the 21st century :/

  • Thunderbolt is far superior, but I don't think I am ready throw away all my usb devices just yet :/

  • @duk3ofh4z4rd You won't have to! Adapters!

  • @duk3ofh4z4rd - I'm sure adapters are in the works...

  • USB 3.0 updated so it actually is faster than Thunderbolt now so there is no contest. Compatibility will win over speed. It will be a repeat of USB 2.0 vs firewire

  • I plan on getting a thunderbolt express 34 card for my older mac when they come out if they do

  • Locker gnome was a good YouTube channel until this other guy came and now it's not worth subscribing.

  • @beast109126

This is what the viewers asked for. NO OPINIONS FACTS ONLY HURRRR.

  • Is it just me or they have about the same voice?

  • It will take a while to get to the point where thunderbolt replaces USB because I just bought a 2010

MacBook white last dec. And it doesent have thunderbolt... Just USB, same

With alot of the pc laptops and desktops out their right now. It jut

Won't completely replace it probably if they started putting them in all computers now... USB would be dead in about 4 years. Even then 4 years...

  • usb 3.0

  • Bullshit. Usb 3.0 is insainly faster the 400mbps. Usb 2.0 alone is 470 mbps. Its like 5 gbps or so

  • @frosty9595 Yup, "USB 3.0 has transmission speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s, which is 10 times faster than USB2.0 (480 Mbit/s)"(wiki)

  • There is no doubt from a technical perspective that TB is superior, but Joe consumer is most likely to use the one that natively supports his old accessories without having to fiddle with adapters.

  • I see why they gave it this type of name. Is it possible they wanted to emphasize the speed?

  • Thunderbolt owns

  • Thunderbolt is porpriatery. Done

  • @MriBackup Thunderbolt is only proprietary to Intel, which manufactures the controller chips.

  • @sc0pl355 really , thanks

  • @MriBackup Yeah, Sony is using thunderbolt in one of their new laptops or something, it has a USB connector tho. Of course, you don't get the advantage of all that bandwidth doing it that way. They could use the thunderbolt port, but chose not to for some reason.

  • @sc0pl355 I'll only use it if it works on linux anyway ;)

  • @MriBackup I think Linux supports thunderbolt...

  • @sc0pl355 Yea it was prob invented on linux :D

  • @MriBackup nah, Thunderbolt was originally authored by Apple and Intel.

  • @sc0pl355 :-/

  • @MriBackup Trollface.jpg ;D

  • 100GB video file? Wow

  • thunderbolt will thrive

  • Forget that. I have usb 7.0

  • Thunderbolt is taking off? How many Thunderbolt devices do you have Chris? :)

  • thunderbold is too long name for something to be used everyday by many people...

  • As soon as Thunderbolt comes over to non-macs Thunderbolt will win

  • @ttomsmith95

All the other OEMs are too damn cheap to use T-bolt for a few years.

  • @ttomsmith95 No, you mean PCs will win even more.

    jk I like macs...i guess

  • @ttomsmith95 Thunderbolt is already available for non-macs. Firewire was too.

  • @ttomsmith95 I don't think that's going to happen, PC maker rather go with USB 3.0 over Thunderbolt.

  • What the point of having 10 GB/sec when the fastest hard drives can only handle 500 mb/sec. Thats what I do not get. The fast rate gets bogged down depending on what its connected to.

  • @MrAJsTech Future proofing

  • @MrAJsTech for a while its really pointless

  • @MrAJsTech

External graphics cards, for example. GPU's can use that much bandwidth.

  • Which one is a better price?

  • Why the FUCK do you call it Thunderbolt? It's fucking called Lightpeak.

Fucking apple talk, jesus christ. I work at Bell Canada and a dumb bitch asked me of a Galaxy S II does "Facetime"

  • @WheelchairAccessible It's called Thunderbolt, Lightpeak was a codename by Intel. Do some research before you comment.

  • @WheelchairAccessible No, it's called Thunderbolt.. Light Peak was its codename.. :)

Btw, Thunderbolt is not from Apple, is from Intel..

  • @thegamer169 WRONG. Light peak was the original standard by intel which used fiber/light, hence the name. Thunderbolt was adapted by apple from the light peak standard but made cheaper and able carry an electrical current to charge devices by using traditional copper cable.

  • @IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN No, Light peak was the codename Thunderbolt is the product name.

  • @thegamer169

You are incorrect once again, Sony has a a computer with Light Peak technology but with a different type of port, but still it call it Light Peak, so perhaps Thunderbolt is the name of it when it is infuse with the mini display port which is apple's case

  • @thegamer169 Light peak is actually different as light peak uses fiber optics but thunderbolt uses normal copper.

  • @thegamer169 But they're only used on mac. Rofl.

  • @Wildtigaah Apple made a contract with Intel to only release it on Apple products for a limited time and then release it to any Intel based computer.

  • @thegamer169 apple is one of the original authors of thunderbolt. It was a collaborative effort.

  • @thegamer169 Well, it was devoloped by intel, however they cooperated with apple making it, and it was more or less designed for apple...

  • Can you please edit the link for the screensaver of the screen in the background of this video ?!?

  • If Windows got thunderbolt, it would be amazing. USB 3 is great, but thunderbolt is a lot faster.

  • @lockergnome can you do a vide on google's high speed internet?

  • Great comparison!

  • thunderbolt pci cards?????

  • Are they services and hardware ideas that never happend because of limits of usb that will apear in the future?

  • Ironically I have moved a 100GB file over wifi.

  • Thunderbolt all the way baby

  • And maybe Thunderbolt will be the "new" Firewire.

  • Thanks Lockergnomes. I'm one of the people always bringing it up.

  • CHRIS SAY HI!

  • Tap, tap tap

  • Finally!

  • what if u have windows

  • @ayddem07 the os doesn't matter, this is hardware thing.

  • NIX

  • Not trying to be a fanboy, but you gotta admit, a lot of formats/devices apple starts using, eventually turn out to something widespread used...

(GUI, mouse, MP3 players, tablet, smartphone although most of these devices were invented by someone else, apple popularized them)

  • USB 3 is up to 5Gbit. It is also powered.

USB didn't take off either till apple put it into their iMacs and removed the floppy drive.

Firewire is better than USB because it goes up to 800Mbps and the work is done on the controller and not CPU like USB. I don't know if that applies to USB 3.0 as well.

  • @JHVH1 5Gbps is its theoretical max, but the actual throughput is about 3Gbps. However, this doesn't account for the fact that this is still much faster than a hard disk can read or write, so transfer speeds will be limited by that.

  • Thunderbolt is faster, but I love my flash drive, without my usb, can't move my work file between PC and Mac.

  • Comment removed

  • Light Peak (Thunder-let's-make-up-retarded-names-for-everything-bolt) is only a newborn. Give it a couple years to mature, but until then, USB 3 all the way.

  • Historically Speaking, Apple has failed to make their own I/O a wide spread industry standard (Firewire 400 & 800). The big difference now is that they developed Thunderbolt with Intel and i believe that is the big difference. That is why i believe that Thunderbolt will be as widespread as USB is today in 4-7 years (IMO) Not to mention, Thunderbolt is capable of outputing data at high speeds, 10 watts of power (i think), audio and video. It is everything in one jack

  • Do A Chris Pirillo vs Brandon Wirtz? lol

  • "So...."

  • do a usb 3.0 and or 2.0 vs e sata port and e sata port vs thunderbolt

  • @KevinIsSoAwsome Think they already made esata vs thunderbolt

  • @ThePhotory then can you give me the link?

  • @KevinIsSoAwsome /watch?v=kzEE3oGnLNs

  • Thuderbolt vs bolt action

  • Do pci 2.0 vs pci 3.0

  • They have done this topic 30 times....I want something new plox...

  • i plugged like 7usb devices into a dell latitude d630 that was running xp in like 2005 and had 2 usb ports but i had 2 4port hubs and the computer got a bdos and then never worked again I belve something on the motherbord broke because it can boot up to the bios but won't boot from the harddrive or from a linux live cd

  • Will we see motherboards come with both thunderbolt and usb 3.0?

usb 3.0 for backwards compatability and thunderbolt for performance.

    (For PC)

  • @Saxappealed no

  • I think Thunderbolt will be the standard for the music industry as Firewire is today. You can chain firewire devices as you can with thunderbolt. USB can't do that?... Example my external firewire sound card can chain firewire devices.

(The main point why firewire won over usb2.0 in the music industry was that USB2.0 uses half duplex, that means latency because it's depending on your computer resources. Firewire uses full duplex (as USB3.0 has) and has no/less latency.)

  • stop the tapping!

  • Thunderbolt is damn expensive right now. Hopefully Apple doesn't go ballistic on USB 3.0 like they did on flash. I love Apple but it's becoming quite frustrating with how Apple decides to adopt tech standards.

  • TB

  • Could they ever make wireless USB based on something using bluetoothish technology?

  • i wonder if they will make thunderbolt memory sticks

  • i just transferred 100GB in 40 minutes over usb 2.0

  • Anyone else notice how many times that guy karate chopped the desk?

  • Damn! I just bought a USB 3.0 external HDD -.-'

  • It's funny how all these thunderbolt faggots love to ignore one of the biggest hurdles thunderbolt has. . .

It's NOT as good. . . It's burst rate may be faster, but it's sustained throughput is infact LOWER the USB 3.

But what ever, apple's marketing department has got to them, there's no getting through to these people even with facts.

  • @manhunt48

    @manhunt48

I'm not a tech guru, but from my experience Thunderbolt has faster sustained throughput than USB 3

I deal with a lot of photo/video/server storage transfers and have external RAID arrays for handling all of my client's data.

I just tested this myself by transferring a 250GB batch of files from my newest external RAID array that supports both USB 3 and Thunderbolt and was able to complete the job in less than 45min on Thunderbolt compared to 1hr 6min on USB 3

  • @MegaProNoobs Thunderbolt is more for drive arrays rather than a single drive, and it's future proofing. When SSD prices come down to sane levels you can RAID a bunch of them to get stupid fast transfer speeds. There's already some on the market, but the price is insane, but for things like video editing and so on this connection is a godsend. Files are getting larger and larger every day so editors need faster and faster ways of getting the data in real time. Thunderbolt will help a LOT there.

  • firewire 2.0 :D

  • hey chris!

  • I would say USB 3.0 because even though thunderbolt is 2x as fast (theoretically), your HDD or SSD connects to your computer via a SATA III connection which at best will give you 6 Gbps. Now until SATA is upgraded again I say USB 3.0 has this because of its market acceptance and its still is really fast. Once SATA is upgraded to support a full 10 Gbps or more (plus the SSDs are upgraded to support that speed) then I would say thunderbolt will be the victor. Just some food for thought.

  • I hate wireless mice and keyboards...

  • @ivanwhitemac I agree, ahh it sucked when the batteries leaked!

  • @739199 Exactly.

  • @ivanwhitemac I prefer wired mice, keyboards, and internet connection. For the keyboard/mouse i usually keep them at the computer anyway, so why waste batteries? For the network? I play online games, use voice chat, and transfer a lot of stuff. Last thing i want to put up with is a bad signal. Until said tech improves, i probably wont use them. :)

  • Well the fact that I've never even heard of 'thunderbolt' doesn't help imo o_O

  • press <- repeatly to see chris shaking xD

  • thunderbolt

  • Will thunder bolt actually get up to those speeds though? I mean, is it like Internet where you can get 10mbps but you never get that much, you get like 8 or 9?

  • @mrelclark94 - You may have to see for yourself.

  • @mrelclark94 It already has with some RAID devices, the limit there is how fast the drives can go. It's a P2P conneciton more like FireWire, USB is a software connection, i.e. it uses your CPU to process every cycle. This is why USB was a performance killer when it first came on the scene. It ate all your CPU power up processing the transfers, and one of the reasons Apple made FireWire. Not so much an issue with modern CPU's, but USB 3 brings some of that overhead back, hence still being slower.

  • humm, thanks for the info :)

  • @jomirife - Glad you liked it.

  • Thunderbolt! :-)

  • I still don't know that other guys name but I like him.

  • Thunderbolt just sounds like some gimmicky usb 3.0

  • @joerush25 - Sounds like it, but is it?

  • usb 3.0

  • Thunderbolt is bad ass but if it doesn't go as mainstream as USB did you can count me out.

  • Thunderbolt is the best! The fastest one!
