I really loved this movie since I plan to become a teacher. The best part was when he tore up the acceptance letter at the end. He knew that those kids needed him more than he needed that job.
CRAZY Talk!!! Hanna Montanna's parents should have known better.....hell the rest of us did! This is true music with true meaning...with real truth, real feelings. Not a wonder how this song made life real......NOT MILEY CYRUS!!!
Amazing how much a song and of course the movie itself can influence a person's life. That movie played a part in my decision to become a teacher. It still affects me today when I hear it and helps me persevere in a job that is now unrecognisable to that portrayed in "To Sir With Love".
to mike nicolosi who saved me in everyway he was my sir with all my love died 49 years old terrible death i will keep him in my soul forever til we meet again.love my baby big daddy bass king///
i love this song to no end, but i dont want to listen to it because it tugs at loads of feelings that i dont know what to do with,, anyone understand at all?
Sweet old classic song. I have always liked the 60's hits! This was from a movie about an influential teacher/male role model to a group of girls, that is what makes it so sweet.
I was in junior high, now call middle school. I remember how much I loved the clothes, hair styles, and shoes. I really miss these days, if I could go back, if only for a day.
this song makes everyone think that during these days, music is of its essence. Simple lyrics and melody that which until today make most of real music listeners think how fantastic songs in this era had. tnx the one that uloaded this
I miss those days of such a wealth of talents , and I miss 45's. Used to have stacks of them. Oh how I miss yesteryears. Oh, how I miss them. It will never come again. But I feel privileged for having lived in the time I did, for having lived it once.
Miley Cyrus wrote this song? This song and movie were written long before Cyrus was born (another reason for the American expression "Now I've heard everything").
lulu pops up on Ab-Fab from time to time - if you like that Brit com - she does not sing tho, but is it great to see her on tv, Tracy Ulman sang a version of this on one of her tv series and did a good rendendtion too.
This song, that movie to which not only is one of my favorites and i just had to own it and have seen it quite often, is a pure showing of how race ,poverty and hate can be over come no matter where you are. bring back the days when that was going on.
I don't know who this idiot is, who is under the impression that hanna montanna aka miley cyrus wrote this song. but if you seriously believe that, then you have no clue about music and when and where it came from. this coming from someone who grew up with this music and all the good music that came after it. P.S. get off the drugs. hanna montanna is not all that.
@musicman5569 Al Green wrote the song in tribute to his teacher, i think... i was a lil' boy then... Al still sings... check him out and his songs on youtube... ciao...
@happymanfeelssogood Actally, Don Black (Lyrics) and Mark (Music) wrote the song in 1967 ... Black did a lot of the James Bond song lyrics together with John Barry. Great stuff!

@fourtyfoursixpack1, I hear ya friend! I wasnt able to go on a real date untill I was at least 16.I was fortunate and had a car to drive. I agree with you stongly. What our world today has lost is the art of romance. Oh sure we were fumblers at itbut at least we built a repatoire of talents at romance. Some girls went for the fast movers and shakers but in the end, what they really wanted was a stable guy with some maturity about him. We had to grow into that, didnt we ?
What a doll she is! Just love that 'british look' in women. Thanks for posting. Have always loved this song. Then - seeing the movie on TV when i was a kid and putting the two together - wow. For a kid it was like an epiphany - she was singing it to the teacher!!! That movie, that song, took me to a new level of apreciation for dramatic cinema at a very young age, a true Blessing. And Sidney Portier, man he was ahead of his times. Thanks again!
I believe this song was the top selling song of 1967 according to Billboard Magazine. And what a year for Sidney Portier. 3 big movies. This one, In the heat of the night and Guess who's coming to dinner.
Oh how I remember listening to dozens of 45's and wearing this particular song out! The movie is fantastic - had a crush on Sidney. Wonderful memories, thank you for uploading this classic song.
I think after seeing the movie and hearing this song I made up my mind to become a teacher. Now, long retired I still see myself as a young man entering the classroom for the first timel
To @x1307x, been there done that back then too! & I still have the 45rpm of this song, what a blast it was to come from the mid/late sixties, the songs, the cars, the whole culture was awesome, not like to today! I'm glad for website like this so that people put these old classics on for us who have been there to recall those days when it was more simple and free, anyway thanks for the post, greatly appreciated, brought back some good memories, bless you 45rpmSINGLES.
i get goosebumps whenever i hear this song and crazy by patsy cline and whos sorry now by connie francis..i think as i come into my 40's i appreciate 60's music and love songs more... (sigh)
Thanks so much for posting the original music. The movie was way ahead of its time, great cast. I love to hear all the little nuances in the changes of key, the kids today will never get this kind of music and its a shame. The 60's were an awesome time.
very nice song - i recognised the title but couldn't place what it was - i have heard it before but didn't know it was lulu. These people could sing from the heart not like these today (Sorry for my bad language here Lady Ga Ga and Kanye West) for example
I saw this movie with my 3 older sisters back in the 60's and we all loved it! Every time I hear this song, I get such a wave of nostalgia! I used to sing this song all over the house, and in later years, my daughter sang it at her 6th grade graduation ceremony. She's 22 now!
I am delighted to find Lulu and the Lovers. I saw her on stage just a few feet above my head in 1964 in Lancashire England, when she sang "Shout". She had a very strong and distinctive voice from her relatively small body - like a pack of dynamite. Thanks for the internet and this post.
I watched this movie over and over again, because it takes me back to my school days at the time these were a very precarious balance of liking some days at school and other days hating and dreading being there.but in general it was a time of innocence and learning the late 50s and early 60s were an era of both contemporary and the excitement of the new found freedom we had then, the film and song by lulu expresses for me the joy i had in my life then and I love it. its says it all Pat Allen
I was born in 62,, I have been technologically illiterate, or behind the curve
for most of my under achieving day's.. but what a wonderful and magical age
we live in... when I can pull up a song out of my memory's when Ii am all
by myself, and find a whole page of people, (strrangers) whom you share a connection with because of a song, in this other wise, cold almost intrusive
techno digital ara.. there is still room for sentiment..
@anyshitt you my friend are in for a wonderful journey, surfing Youtube for all those tunes we grew up on, and finding 99% of them is just great, enjoy!
To all you Gleebers out there. I don't hate Glee but what they do is exploit great music regardless if they mean to or not. It is ok to cover a song but some songs are classic and timeless and can never be improved upon and this is one of them. It is ok to like Glee and to like this song but PLEASE. Don't say Glees version of " To Sir With Love " is better than Lulu's. That is absurd and in fact somewhat disrespectful in light of the nature of this beautiful classic. Lulu owns this song PERIOD.
@Appleholic1 What's sad about the current generation is they have very little of anything good to call their own. They'll look back at these times and realize all they had really were remakes of classic songs, movies, etc.
There's only one thing wrong with this song - it's not long enough. Another couple of verses would have been good. It's one of the few that I can stand listening to over and over....
@99Quench Oh I think it is just perfect......one of the few songs that are perfect. However, in reference to there being more verses ....I do recall many years ago a different rendition of this song by Lulu with some extra verses. Something about climbing tress and skinning knees. I have not heard it in decades but I am sure it exists. Does anyone else recall it?
@Appleholic1 I recall it. My sister had one of Lulu's albums and it was on there with those words in it. I remember another song from that album with a verse that said "...I looked to see a bird flying overhead and I dreamt it's wings of freedom could be mine instead..." Have heard her sing that verse in my mind through so many difficult times in my life & have longed to hear that song again...maybe I'll find it on here one day, the name of it could have been, 'I Live My Life'(?)
I remember watching To Sir, With Love for the first time in my history class. Right when I heard this song at the beginning I knew the movie was going to be amazing!!! Great movie, Great song!!!
My mom got me into this movie when I was real young, and I own it this day. I never get tired of watching it and my daughter used it in her psychology class with her report for racism, got an "a", these are things that should still be taught today!
This is a great song though in the 90s every indie group in the world with a female singer thought "Let's cover this song because ,like, nobody knows about it and everyone will totally think we are so cool and maybe that we even wrote it", which , of course, was an absurd notion as it was a blockbuster hit. Still, good song and good movie.
Jr High 1969. Magic. Corney I know but if you were not around in those days you missed something really special... musically that is. Didn't have a clue what love was.
@x1307x A very long time ago 1967, I ,at 13yrs. old had a date. At 13 you take the bus across town, hope one has enough money for the movie, popcorn, etc. It may seem corney to this day but the magic of holding you're girlfriends hand, tighter and tighter thuout the movie, a kiss, walking her home, then realising you have a very, very, very long walk home alone. Falling in love is really special, this song reminds me of my first love,I will never forget her.
@fourfortysixpak1 I know exactly how you feel. Thanks for that. Let me add that no matter how far you had to walk to get home that night I bet it was worth every step.
I am sitting here reading your comment re: To Sir With Love! it brought a smile to my face, so sad that as a society we were in such a hurry to have things, and changes that nothing seems sacred anymore.
@fourfortysixpak1 "You never forget your first love" This line is spoken by a Father to his son in the film "Endless Love". The Father himself is in the process of a divorce. The young man's first love was "Brook Sheilds". A film with many unforgetable scenes. It was put out in the 1980's. I think you can watch it on You Tube in sections. A retired Catholic priest in Canada. (P.S. I have the video format of the film, and watch it from time to time!) Although celibate, I wonder at love's beauty!
@fourfortysixpak1 I remember seeing it when it first came out , it made me think , that I was to soon grow up and that I had to choose carefullly who I was to have for friends , sadfully the friends that I had for the most part were not the friends that I would have chosen
@fourfortysixpak1 I was 11 in 1967, when I turned 13 the girls chased me, cornered me, kissed me and fondled me, forget about magic, movies, long walks, and holding hands, I liked that they held my...!
@fourfortysixpak1 "You will never forget your first love." The father's words to his son in the film "Endless Love". A favourite fim of mine. Brook Shields was the girl, but I thought the young man gave a great performance but he has faded into oblivion. Where is Martin Hewitt today. I won't tell you the ending. I have the video and still watch it from time to time. I believe the film came out in 1981. I was into "Teenage Films" at the time. A retired Catholic priest in Canada.
@fourfortysixpak1 I had you by about ten years, but, WOW, those are SOME memories, that I doubt could be had today. Love is not what is was back then, there is NO innocence today from what I can see. Too Bad!
Thank u a.k. This song is for u. The best parts of my life were spent with u. U showed me the goodness and innocence in the world around me. If there is any good in me u put it there. Please find ur own joy and innocence again I need u in this world. Without u there would be no color
@phylliswaterfield Yes she does. However this is NOT Petula Clark this is another lady just as talented and just as beautiful as Miss Clark. This is Lulu
@Appleholic1 Thank You, I totally agree ! Someone on another post of To Sir With Love said that group Glee was much better than Lulu. I Totally Disagree. There is No One better than Lulu singing her own song.
i always sung this when miss montilla is checking our papers it was my 2nd year in high school AGUSAN HIGH batch 71 yep yep hurry long live to my golden batch
This song is so good and Lulu sang it great. Watch the movie and you understand the song. Sidney Poitier was such a great actor in the movie teaching a bunch of ass hole kids, and finally earns their respect. The song make total sense with the movie. Very good stuff !!!!

I'm glad for website like this so that people put these old classics on for us who have been there to recall those days when it was more simple and free, anyway thanks for the post, greatly appreciated, brought back some good memories, bless you 45rpmSINGLES.

@WPTSUKS As someone who grew up in the 60's, I'm glad that younger generation
can appreciate real music.

Thanks so much for posting the original music. The movie was way ahead of its time, great cast. I love to hear all the little nuances in the changes of key, the kids today will never get this kind of music and its a shame. The 60's were an awesome time.

Check out her more recently singing this song. She's still got it and she looks fantastic.

very nice song - i recognised the title but couldn't place what it was - i have heard it before but didn't know it was lulu.

Appleholic1 3 months ago 3
@Appleholic1 What's sad about the current generation is they have very little of anything good to call their own. They'll look back at these times and realize all they had really were remakes of classic songs, movies, etc.
genursus 3 months ago
There's only one thing wrong with this song - it's not long enough. Another couple of verses would have been good. It's one of the few that I can stand listening to over and over....
99Quench 3 months ago
@99Quench Oh I think it is just perfect......one of the few songs that are perfect. However, in reference to there being more verses ....I do recall many years ago a different rendition of this song by Lulu with some extra verses. Something about climbing tress and skinning knees. I have not heard it in decades but I am sure it exists. Does anyone else recall it?
Appleholic1 3 months ago
@Appleholic1 I recall it. My sister had one of Lulu's albums and it was on there with those words in it. I remember another song from that album with a verse that said "...I looked to see a bird flying overhead and I dreamt it's wings of freedom could be mine instead..." Have heard her sing that verse in my mind through so many difficult times in my life & have longed to hear that song again...maybe I'll find it on here one day, the name of it could have been, 'I Live My Life'(?)

My mom got me into this movie when I was real young, and I own it this day. I never get tired of watching it and my daughter used it in her psychology class with her report for racism, got an "a", these are things that should still be taught today!
momwitatitude 4 months ago 3
This is a great song though in the 90s every indie group in the world with a female singer thought "Let's cover this song because ,like, nobody knows about it and everyone will totally think we are so cool and maybe that we even wrote it", which , of course, was an absurd notion as it was a blockbuster hit. Still, good song and good movie.

Jr High 1969. Magic. Corney I know but if you were not around in those days you missed something really special... musically that is. Didn't have a clue what love was.
x1307x 4 months ago

Too Bad!
