Impressed. The SAAB looks really nice and predictable to drive, and you are really nailing the lines Anders. In my opinion, I think you were comforting the car at the end with the fingertapping ("poor boy, yes I'll get you fixed, no it wasn't your fault...").
Your video was posted on a very popular blog in Brazil ( the journalist who owns the blog is a 2 stroke fanatic) and everybody loved the vid. [] from a fellow rcing driver from south america.. the following link is to one of our races.. enjoy
Jensen96, as you'll see above in my video, last season I was driving my Dad's Sonett and had a similar incident with a Datsun. I made out a bit better than you though and damage was limited to fiberglass work.
I don't know how the guy that hit you got away without a penalty??? The one that hit me was put on probation and I was cleared of any fault.
That's a healthy sounding stroker though! What's your setup? I'm in the middle of rebuilding a couple of ours... An 850 and a 940.
@formulasaab Are you Stefan? If so I have seen your videos for years now. Great fun!
The engine I use in this "Appendix K" car is only 844cc (70.1mm bore). We are not allowed to go over the 850 cc limit due to FIA period F (1962-1965) SAAB specifications. I have also made improvements of the road handling and the car is great to drive and the engine runs well but now the newbuilt 970s Minis are too hard to fight off.
Our vintage racing rules are a bit different in the US as FIA specs aren't used. It is more typical that clubs will use period SCCA regulations instead.
The car I hope to put the 940 in is the Formula S. I'm always getting thrown in with Formula Juniors and it would be nice to be able to hang a little closer to them on the straights and hills.
Exellant sound, great driving.I would have kicked the crap out of the Danish driver. Was there a penalty of any kind?If you like this check out Formulasaab on Youtube! ! !
Thank's. The car ran good that weekend and I had i good fight with the Volvo until we where about to get lapped of faster cars. There was no penalty for the "blind" driver and he thought it was my own fault! ??
That was unlucky!! Love the engine sound on that thing but I've never seen or even heard of such a car.... Do you think you could do a video showing more of the car? Like inside/outside and about the engine and whatever else. Also how much power is that thing making?
Great driving Anders! Good illustration of how the lack of a limidted slip diff is hurting you too. Shame about the "Jean Alesi-type" Ford driver who knocked you over. ... as I am sure you would have caught that Amazon within a few laps. Oh, *love* the finger tapping detail.... Made me laught hard! Looking forward to next season and hope we'll meet up at the races yet again.
Thank's Sandman. Yeah it's a bit frustrating to not be able to keep the foot down in all corners. I lost a little ground to the Volvo each time I was overtaken by faster cars but it was close. We had a good fight during the qualifying though.
Oh, the fingertapping...nothing much else to do when you are waiting for the red flagg ;-)
You are clearly a pro... Literally hit the kill switch within seconds; didn't freak out and try to unbuckle causing further injury if hit or in shock... Loved the steering wheel tap at 2:59- classic! Hope to see more videos in the future.
I have hours of film but too little time to editing. The best so far is the one from the finals of the Swedish Historic Championship in Falkenberg. Don't miss that one..
Anders: I help Swade out from time to time writing posts when he's unable to do so. When I run across gems like this I post them, especially on the weekends when news is slow. Again, great work!
That stinks! I hope the Saab is salvageable. There aren't that many of those great cars left. (at least over here in the U.S. I hope you get back on the track very soon.
Hi Bob. The Saab was back on track 3 days later, thank's to skillfull friends, and on the 21-23 of May I raced the 1st and 2nd round of the Swedish Historic Championships. Sadly I lost compression on one cylinder on the qualifying but managed to fight off the others and finish 2nd behind a 970s Mini in both the race. Soon there will be some film of that too.

I know I talk to my car :)

Haven't you heard of a SAAB?
I'll see if I can make a picture video of the car inside and outside.
The little 844 cc two stroke engine produce 52 HP in standard configuration and tuned to group 2 about 85 hp.

Look forward to the video :)

@Jensen96 Probably not an original question, but did the car survive the ordeal?
