I've had the bass for two years now. Very well worth the money! It could qualify as a legit Fender. Active pickups that give you the immediate boost that you would ever need.
I have one very good bass for the money,no complaints. I even beef mines up with a roland gk 3b pickup to use with v-bass pedal. So its my syth bass so to speak, will do videos soon.
It's not too bad, about 9 or 10 pounds. I've played shows were I wore the bass for 3 hours. I do recommend atleast a 2 1/2" strap to spread the weight out on your shoulder.
@kdr1210 Ebonal is a hardend rubber. It's immune to all humidity damage; unlike actual wood fretboards. I've read that it shows scratches, unfortunately. I don't own the bass (yet) so I can't speak to the truth of this.
hi, im thinking of getting this bass but there is one thing that is putting me off, the fact that the body is basswood, ive only had 1 bass made out of basswood but eventually i had problems like the jack started to come out, this might just be that the bass was poorly costructed but is this bass strong because i dont want to have the bass falling apart lol
@MrMatyboy3000 basswood is acctually really good if you look at the £2000 musicman bongo's there made of basswood and there the best basses they make :)
active has a preamp built into it, boosts the signal some...and usually active bass's give a little more of a controlled tone to them...at least thats my opinion
Of course I don't think I'm the next McCartney. I wouldn't even want to be like him. I just want to start playing bass, and I named it "start my bass career". I just quit playing drums with another band so I don't know wtf your problem is.
People like you should get banned from YouTube. Moron.
I personally love the bass. It is very upgradable as well as far as pickups and preamp. The neck stays in tune really well. The fret work is done very well. I highly recommend it.
It does really well due to the wider string spacing, it allows you to get under the strings easier. The 3 band eq is really good for dialing in your slap tone.
im gonna buy my first bass and can anybody care to tell me a good bass between 100 and 200 cause im just startin and im just gonna play some rock thats all
a great cheap bass is the OLP mm2- its a knockoff of the Music Man bass but its really good sounding... i've got one and it beats any squier out there or anything else in the price range
well Squier's can be as low as $150. If your willing to save more money, you can go for a cheap Ibanez. If I had to pick, I would go for an epiphone bass jumpstart kit. You say your only going to play rock, and most epiphone basses are good for that,
I disagree with the epiphones. It was my first, given to me for christmas. The action, intonation, and neck bow were really off regardless of how many set-ups I had. But, they arent bad if it's your only choice.
Mtd hier and Kingston play and sound really nice. The tribute by g&l is a great bass, very comparable to a musicman. If you want a higher end fender bass, Lakland basses are excellent. It depends on what style of bass your going for and what style you play. The best thing to do is try out a bunch of basses and see which one fits you the best. Make sure you play all the basses on the same amp to see what the real sound difference is between the basses.
o.k. so i have a fender.. bass obviously and i have had it for about 3 years. what do you recommend as to what kind of bass i could get in the price range of less than 1,000
Since the fretboard ebonol, the frets a are very consistant in heigth. The only thing I had to do was adjust the truss,to put a slight bow in the neck. Then adjusted the intonation,so all the notes are true at the 12th fret.Out of the box it plays really well though. It sets up really easy though.I have the action set 3\16th at the 22nd fret.I like my action really low so I get string choking when I attack harder on the bass.
I haven't tried one of these out but I have the cheaper Squier V and yours looks and sounds much nicer. I agree that even at $330 or whatever it's still gonna be a great deal when you compare it to similarly priced 5 strings.
Sorry but you're wrong. I've played both. If you didn't look at the name you would swear you were playing a Fender. For $200 more you get a MIM Fender which some say is inferior to the Squires. Open your mind and play one of these new Squires for yourself. PS I have been a bass player for 36+ years.
I can only speak about my Squire Vintage Modified Fretless. It stays in tune as well as any Bass I know of. Once the strings have been broken in (about a week or two) it will stay in tune for a very long time, 2 weeks at least, maybe longer.
I like it better because of the ebonol fret board which helps alot with stability, and give it a punchier tone. The neck on this is a little wider than the fender, but if its too wide buy the squier affintity 5 string bass which has a slightly narrower neck but it only has passive electronics but still sounds great for 199 dollars its a good deal.
i have a question, i wanna get a 5 string bass but im not sure if i wanna spend $500. do you think this is as good as a Mexican fender? or should i save up and buy the Mexican fender
Thanks for this review. I've been looking at these for a while now and have decided to get one based on your review. I have a Squier Standard Series Strat and I absolutely love it. With better pickups, I'd put it up against anything in the $500-800 range.
hi there, thank you so much for shaaring this vid. i found your review really useful. in these days i frequently fancy about ordering one of these squiers.the only doubt i have is this: is the truss rod stiff enough? and, most importantly, is it strong enough to hold the enck almost perfectly sraight? it would be very important for me to know about any issues, since i almost always keep all my bass es' necks VERY straight. i would be really glad if you could provide an answer to my inquiry!
The truss rod works really well.I haven't had issues with the neck warping or going out of tune. The neck from the factory was perfectly straight, but I always put a little bow in the neck to get the action as low as I can and still not get fret buzz.
@bigdawgandrewm yeah dude you should be fine...i had to play an outdoor show last year, where, by shitty placement, me and our guitarist were stuck in the sun for the better part of three hours and it did fine...its a solid as hell bass for the money man...and u need to understand, before this bass, i hated anything to do with fender....needless to say they've converted me
Absolutely, for the money they make a great 5 string bass, whether it's the affinity bass or the v active that I have. The affinity bass has a little narrower neck than my bass which I actually like better.Even if you don't upgrade pickups or controls thier great bass.I think they sound better than the original fender basses, for less than half the price. One thing I do recomend with any squier bass is tossing the orignal strings and replacing them with dr high beams, plays alot better
