I remember one of my budies a Sgt Kimes got his arm grabbed by the german sheppards from the K9 unit in the Oceanside Police Department when he was drunk and tried to run away from cops....those dogs do serious serious damage if you actually get chased by them

GSD are used not because of a single ability, there are dogs with a stronger bite, rotties, dogs with a better sence of smell like spanials, but for a combination of the best traits German Sheps are great at this kind of work... good bite, very agile, said to be the 3rd most intelligent breed of dog, they have good detection senses and were bred to protect!

You have to apply for Canine no matter what branch you go into. A recruiter can't guarantee it because it's up to whether or not the unit thinks you have what it takes to be K-9 handler.

well if the dobie was his personal dog it wasn't his K-9 attachment if you will. but maybe they have a few left in the service. just not near as many as the shepherds. they may use dobie's as messenger dogs cuz they are more light weight it you will, im not sure. i personally have never seen or heard of a dobie as a military working dog.

dobies r defff not weird looking, their fast, big, and can be angry, but best of all their great with kids.

it depends on the breed, and the size of the dobies, bulldogs r small, but husky, but they r quick to cowar, when the going gets tuff, life expectiency in a fight against a bull or bear, 5 to 10 mins at best, id rather have a Kurdish Kangal bec its fuckin huge, or mabye a Leonberge, or a bullmastiff, or even a irish wolf hound, there are many tougher breeds, and bigger breeds

my dobie weighed 86-96 pounds standing 4 and a half feet tall and he was built, literaly. mine had pure black fur with the brown, not a red or white dobie their known for problems. to b honest idk how big my dog was, but the biggest one i ever saw was name luke, standing at 4'8" 98 pounds, as fast as a grey hound(he ran with his brother who was a grey hound(not by blood)) that dogs paws where huge, and it was scary. now im talking about pure breed dogs here no mixis.

Ya these dogs go through basic training and stuff in Fort Benning. They also served in world war 2 and saved over 10,000 lives in vietnam. They are the forgotten heroes and its great that they continue on serving along side humans.
