  • Still impressive, yes.

  • Meshuggah were innovative, but not complex. Polyrhythms over 4/4 are not complex. Technicality is not complexity. I love meshuggah, they were brilliant, but anyone who thinks that this is complex is probably not actually registering what they're doing.

  • @GoliathMusic1 Yep, everything is based on a foundation of 4/4, Thomas mentioned that this is a key part of the audience moshing in synchronicity \m/

  • is it just me or is that a fucking brutal bass tone...

  • @goudan00 It's not you... It's epic

  • The bass sucks!

  • @7is7a The bass is a fucking beast!

  • @Moossyb realy...o my god...you know jhon champell...from Lamb of god...victor woten...theay are bass player no this shit

  • @7is7a Why doesn't you like the bass player?

  • @Moossyb The sound is horrible...jhon champbell.of lamb of god is my preferit bass player...

  • Comment removed

  • @7is7a You have quite a small brain don't you, haha

  • @steviethesoundguy o sorry master of bass... -.-"

  • @7is7a I'm not a master of bass but clearly neither are you and if you can't appreciate Meshuggah your brain is small. Bye.

  • @steviethesoundguy what...if i dont like meshuggah my brain is small???You are so funny man..lisening dimmu borgir...lamb of god...kamelot...hammerfalll...this is music...not meshuggah...

  • @7is7a ROFL hahahahaha

  • @7is7a ????? Hammerfall better than Meshuggah? That one needs a good motivation. I'm not gonna mention brain size, don't worry ;)

  • @blablasak the tecnique is beter meshuggah..the bass sound...the guitar sound...the vocalist...hammerfall destroy they...but thys are my taste...so hammerfall beat meshuggah in all...sorry

  • @7is7a I hope you refer to John Campbell and Victor Wooten. So tell me, if you're such a fan of these bassists... how does it come that you can't spell their names right?

  • As a proficient bassist I strongly disagree.

  • what song are they playing starting at 3:23 ?

  • Any suggah trolls left in this region?

  • @BimTalch facing*

  • @BimTalch i was talking about the face that he made. and i dont know about u but i cum straight. how wuld he come on the camera if he wasnt acing the camera. really?? be smart now

  • i think dick came at 3:47

  • @biigdaddydr3w are you implying a dick came on camera? listen to yourself

  • which song is that starting at 2:21?

  • @Snelis rational gaze

  • Imagine......... If there was a drum battle between tomas haake and optimus prime.............. whom would u put your bet on? ;)

  • In Death - Is Life is so fine

  • Look, Tomas is listening to his ipod thats playing other songs and still drumming !

  • @Itsoeasyafterall He's listening to the Harry Potter Audio Book, It helps him relax while playing

  • @Mugenloo hahahahahhahahah

  • That kit sounds beasty

  • Thomas Haake is such a humble badass. Did you see Alive? He says " I could barely keep up with the band at first." WTF! He IS the rhythm of Meshuggah, and one of the greatest metal drummers ever. His mind calculates polyrhythms like Arnold's Terminator Computer mind.

  • Ooooh, so that's what Meshuggah's bass sounds like.

  • 79 people only know 4/4

  • @Gillty101 most of meshuggah's music is in 4.

  • man this is terrible, just strange time signatures with open notes.

  • drummer is good though

  • God is a Thomas Haake

  • Urm, how is this a solo?

  • @CTWBestLeftAlone There's a Drum solo at the beginning

Sorry I'll rename it to "Tomas Haake Drum Solo Leading into Medley of Meshuggah Songs ft. Dick Lovgren.

  • @CTWBestLeftAlone I LOL at you, anal retintive bastard. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Just like a Democrat everything needs to be explained to you and fit inside the box!

  • @cary19642003 I lol at you, you arrogant bell end. I'm actually an avid Musician, and as such, I thoroughly dislike mislabled arrangements. Things don't need to be explained to me, however things should never be mislabled.

  • what is the intro song, someone please?? Isn't it the 'destroy, erase, improve' sound??

  • @fearmydrums Emh no I don't think it sounds like the ''Destroy erase improve'' sound... The song is called Spasm and it's from the Nothing album.

  • B.A.D.A.S.S.!!!!

  • Bassist is nothing special. Drummer is amazing!

  • @GerardWahlman - dude really? He's "nothing special", he's just the bassist for one of the best groups of all time, not just in Metal, but in music period. I dare you to transcribe their music and play it on bass the way that he does. It's not as easy as he's making it look. The fact that he can play this music and have rock solid time is amazing - same for Haake. The bassists role in this band is underrated for sure.

  • @holygroove2 well put. anyone that says this is boring and EASY is missing 90% of the music and they need to analyze it and listen to it many more times. Meshuggahs music was like a rubiks cube for me because its so ridiculously over-the-top complex

  • @GerardWahlman hahahahh you are so funny ! your life is nothing special asshole

  • ....and I thought anything by Danny Carey was difficult to learn.

  • fuck yes rational gaze

  • 4:47 flash comes on stage and helps thomas.

  • @bustabo23

    Haha good call

  • @bustabo23 hahaha man you made my evening, been laughing at this for like 10 minutes now :)

  • @ManUtd1337 heheh i laughed my ars off on that one, hes too facking quick! i mean that cymbal wasnt going down or anything, hes just QUICK for no reason

  • @ExecutionMetalPeru

    c.o.c.k.s.u.c.k.e.r

  • Comment removed

  • @ExecutionMetalPeru no one likes you.. NO ONE.. so just go away :)

  • I was a drummer just like Tomas Haake, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • @Moossyb pity you didn't take one in the face

  • as to the confusion:

    0:07 - 1:07 haake 'getting warm'

    1:07 - 2:22 organic shadows

    2:23 - 2:50 rational gaze obviously

2:50 - 3:17 rational gaze (part during guitar solo)

3:18 - 3:45 in death - is life i think, but not too sure about that one

3:46 - end in death - is death

thanks for this upload btw :))

  • @OnkelKC Congrats,all correct ;)

  • @OnkelKC haha it gets tricky trying to keep track of song names on Catch 33

  • IncrediFucking'ble

  • begginer: joey jordison lars ulrich Tricky: chris adler a nightmare: martin axenrot mike portnoy too young to die: roman goulon george kollias Maybe, all the others together: Tomas Haake
  • @ReyCarmesi97

I love Bobby Jarzombek and Haake at equal levels, im personally more a fan of the tech as opposed to the blast, but yeah they're all great drummers

  • Is he playing in Jordans?

  • Awesome!

  • The only real metal band.

  • Drum levels

    beginner

    Easy

    Lars Ulrich

    Pro

    Chris adler

    Inhuman

    Tomas Haake

    Chuck norris

  • LOL bass guitar sounds just like an 8 string guitar xD

  • @Glovefullavasoline It's not, look at the bass player at the beginning.

  • @Glovefullavasoline AT THE END YOU DUMBSHIT!

  • That's some djenty-ass bass

  • I'm finally on my first year of drumming and I'm learning about using rudiments for my double bass. But I'm wondering does Tomas use poly rhythms to get that off time sound?

  • this video made me go buy his drum sticks(Tomas Hakke) O.O

  • what the fuck is that bass tuning its getting to me is it C F Bb Eb Ab or what?

  • @iMAGMUN8MOTioN00nuKE Bb F Bb Eb Ab Sucks that he doesn't tune to low F

  • What gear does Dik use? i know what his bass is but i mean the amps, or effects. Im trying to recreate his tone but all i have is a peavey max 158 and a digitech bp50.

  • lol at his pumas

  • I really like the sound of those cotton beaters on the kick drums man.

  • THIS IS WHAT MESHUGGAH BAND PRACTICE SOUNDS LIKE WHEN FREDRIK TAKES A 5 MINUTE BONG RIP.

  • :54 - 2:21 = "Organic Shadows". 2:22 - 3:17 = "Rational Gaze". 3:18 on is "In Death is Life/Death"

  • que brutalidad !!!!!!!!

  • The endless question... What would happen if Tomas Haake and chuck Norris had a drumbattle?

  • @TheAlmightyrat crazy huh? thats where most of the ANGER in the guitar tone actually comes from. their unique mix of that bass tone, the 'djent' guitar tone, the 'peg in the sky' snare, and that 'silvery' kick are often imitated but rarely duplicated.

    long live meshuggah

  • @jradical420 oops, this is meant to be a reply @roysilber

  • Wtf the bass sounds like the guitar

  • @TheAlmightyrat right! they played ''In Death-Is Death''( I think )

  • Bass drum does sound like a fart

  • I love Drums + Bass. They kind of complete each other

  • the bass sound like a fart

  • sonor drums with pearl hardware!?!?!!?

  • The bass is sounding like the braying of an ass..

    Haake is inhuman though oO

  • Comment removed

  • If you like Meshuggah, especially if you like Haake's drumming, try listen to this band: ZU. Their drummer is really talented. I'm not spamming, it's simply an advice to those who like this kind of rythmics.

  • @christcunt I agree. I suggest to start with "Soulympics" (feat Mike Patton)

  • 1:07 my favorite moment :)

  • Comment removed

  • Killed it

  • I normally hate when people post little comments in their videos but that "fuck yeah" is entirely appropriate. Fuck yeah, indeed.

  • Just one thing to say here: FUCKED UP

  • Where's that "lol whiteboys" -comment? It was funny.

  • 02:22 The reason why God cried and died.

  • My favorite rhythm section any band I've heard, thanks for posting this man.

  • This just sounds like stengah without vocals or guitar. Am I wrong?

  • @trippyspaceman

Yup, probably about.. Hmmmmmmmmm.... 5000% incorrect

  • @Mugenloo Yep... it's a Medley of the Nothing album for the most part...

  • @trippyspaceman I guess you could say they're using the "melody" of stengah and tomas is kind of soloing over it. it's more of just a jam. But no, it's not exactly the same. They are similar. Either way, freakin' incredible.

  • @trippyspaceman yeah, its organic shadows without vocals and guitar. nice try tho :)

  • @trippyspaceman Rational Gaze at 2:20 also

  • @trippyspaceman its a medley of a bunch of their songs. from nothing mostly.

  • @trippyspaceman from 0:50 to 1:35 is very alike then the bass riff is from closed eyes visuals i think

  • @trippyspaceman no your not wrong, they're doing a sound check, just jammin stuff out.

  • @tjbay13 Nah they were playing a Drum and Bass festival in Sweden, it was written specifically using parts from their songs for this "performance", pretty sure it was 2006

  • @Mugenloo oh ok that explains it. i was so focused on Thomas playing i just now noticed the audience lol. i suppose it helps to watch the vid in it's entirety, audience applause at the end.

  • It's metal, Jim. But not as we know it.

  • @Glovefullavasoline

It's just the end sped up a bit (I didn't do it), because they're just about to take the kit apart, which is relatively boring. The rest is just Haake beasting.

  • @Mugenloo "The rest is just Haake baesting" LMAO

  • I find this easy to masturbate to.

  • 3:46 wich song is it???

  • @humantorch1993

"Disenchantment", track #3 from the "Catch Thirty-Three" album. One more superb example of overwhelming riffs coupled with jazzy dynamics. Simply mind-blowingly difficult, and all the more admiring.

  • I love when rational gaze comes in and hes just stomping the fuck outta those pedals. That gentlemen, is what we call playing through the head.

  • @fashizzle58 I couldn't agree more with you, my sick and virtual friend.

  • Responder a este vídeo... I love the part also when the bass enters, it's like making love with a predator's vertebrae compound.

  • What's the song in the beginning?

  • @CalebSmith576

    "Spasm" from the Album "Nothing"

  • @VitalSigns1 Haha amazing troll! I hope you have that in copy paste so you dont waste your time.

  • @VitalSigns1 Lol you fail, nigger kid. We know them polyrythms, and Allan Holdsworth beats your stupid nigger guy Herbie Hancock and his "jazz fusion" shite wich aint even the real stuff.

  • @BannanaOfDoom Yeah. Let's further the stereotype that all white guys that like metal are racist tools. What he said was stupid but don't answer stupid with stupider.

  • @MarkHarrellJr I was kind of parodying him...

  • @VitalSigns1 What you mean you can't dance to this? Im doing a rumba with the ole lady right now...

  • @VitalSigns1 im sry that all music is not hiphop

  • @VitalSigns1 No one ever wanted to dance to it you troll

  • @VitalSigns1 Really? Let's ask Tony Royster Jr. what he thinks of Haake....the fact is that you're just as bad at math now as you were in school and that's why you can't "get it".

  • @VitalSigns1 "Comfortably Dumb" - Extreme. White, Groovy, In time: you lose

  • @VitalSigns1 they're just doing something that's far beyond your ability to comprehend. There actually is a lot of groove in meshuggahs music.

  • holy polyrhythms batman!!

  • ITS NOT EVEN IN TIME.

    MY EARS MY POOR EARS!!!

  • @LippBigg Troll.

  • @LippBigg Do you have common sense? Stop your fucking foot with the bell at the beginning!

  • @chrispysthename323

If you meant "stomp" then that was the most unfortunate typo ever ;P

  • @Mugenloo Derp.

  • lol i find it funny how after all the epic-ness the tech rush in to quickly fix up the drumkit XD

  • wow i never heard tthe bass straight up from meshuggah. do you know what kinda distortion/ effects he is using?

  • @Cookieonbass idk whatever it is it's epic. Did you know he tune a 5 string up a half step and drop the B# to Bb

  • @Vanzeplica did you know that a B# is a C natural? and did you know that that's not what he does at all?

  • @isoscelespopsicle sorry meant to say B to Bb but he does tune the rest up a half step to F standard because he can't get a bass string in a thick enough gauge. it would end up like .148 which is like playing a tree stump.

  • @isoscelespopsicle Actually a B# is only a C natural on tempered instruments like the piano. On a violin or in a choir a B# isn't a natural C.

  • @MattiasBorgstrom and i'm talking about a bass guitar which is a tempered instrument

  • @Vanzeplica B#?

  • @deadloque Ya meant to say B to Bb

  • @Cookieonbass

i think its just loads of contour, thats what gives it the "djent" sound

  • This video should be mandatory for all educational institutes.

  • Stop feeding the troll.

  • @MikePostDrums

    Never gonna happen :D

  • @Mugenloo Yeah.. there's always people who fall for it, lol.

  • God, the way they kick into Rational Gaze is EPIC.

  • " fuck yeah " is the exact definition of my feelings at that part of the song. fuck yeah man!!

  • 500 of those views are off me :)

  • that bass wants to tear your face off

and the drums are gonna wear it to your funeral

  • There are two people last time i checked solo is one person

  • @TheZebraMan100

Get a life you fucking retard

  • @Mugenloo Yumad

  • @Mugenloo I would like to know good sir.....why are you so mad

  • @TheZebraMan100 you are wrong. solo means 1 instrument leads, doesn't mean just one instrument plays. In classical music you have plenty of examples where you have several soli accompanied by basso continuo and even basso seguente. Take my word for it.

YOU DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT MUSIC TO EVEN OPEN YOUR MOUNTH ABOUT IT

  • @TheHeraldic Yes but it was not a solo the entire time, second of all...."MOUNTH" if you want to try and correct someone make sure you're right first
