Meshuggah were innovative, but not complex. Polyrhythms over 4/4 are not complex. Technicality is not complexity. I love meshuggah, they were brilliant, but anyone who thinks that this is complex is probably not actually registering what they're doing.

Thomas Haake is such a humble badass. Did you see Alive? He says " I could barely keep up with the band at first." WTF! He IS the rhythm of Meshuggah, and one of the greatest metal drummers ever. His mind calculates polyrhythms like Arnold's Terminator Computer mind.
@CTWBestLeftAlone I LOL at you, anal retintive bastard. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Just like a Democrat everything needs to be explained to you and fit inside the box!
@cary19642003 I lol at you, you arrogant bell end. I'm actually an avid Musician, and as such, I thoroughly dislike mislabled arrangements. Things don't need to be explained to me, however things should never be mislabled.
@GerardWahlman - dude really? He's "nothing special", he's just the bassist for one of the best groups of all time, not just in Metal, but in music period. I dare you to transcribe their music and play it on bass the way that he does. It's not as easy as he's making it look. The fact that he can play this music and have rock solid time is amazing - same for Haake. The bassists role in this band is underrated for sure.
@holygroove2 well put. anyone that says this is boring and EASY is missing 90% of the music and they need to analyze it and listen to it many more times. Meshuggahs music was like a rubiks cube for me because its so ridiculously over-the-top complex

I'm finally on my first year of drumming and I'm learning about using rudiments for my double bass. But I'm wondering does Tomas use poly rhythms to get that off time sound?
What gear does Dik use? i know what his bass is but i mean the amps, or effects. Im trying to recreate his tone but all i have is a peavey max 158 and a digitech bp50.
@TheAlmightyrat crazy huh? thats where most of the ANGER in the guitar tone actually comes from. their unique mix of that bass tone, the 'djent' guitar tone, the 'peg in the sky' snare, and that 'silvery' kick are often imitated but rarely duplicated.

@tjbay13 Nah they were playing a Drum and Bass festival in Sweden, it was written specifically using parts from their songs for this "performance", pretty sure it was 2006
