These could prove useful if a tsunami hit your area. Give one to every man, woman and child in areas of risk imo and train them how to use it in the event of an emergency.
I suppose that asking if it can auto-rotate is moot if there are multiple engines..but let's assume worst case scenario and a blade failure ocurred; is there any way to provision a ballistic parachute as a 'get out of jail' card?
Seems like a heck of a lot of fun, I'd love to try it...but for $30K, you're pretty much in Mosquito ultralight or helicycle pricetag territory and that doesn't really make good marketing sense..
Wouldn't matter. A human deploy mechanism wouldn't be successful, because human would try and recover, leaving it to late for parachute to have any chance to change survivability scenarios. Have to be automated on faulty conditions.
30k for a ultralight helicopter and another couple grand for a pilots license. anytime you pilot a two seated ultralight or a ultralight helicopter you must have a pilots license.
Very cool! What's the endurance, I wonder. Can't be carrying much fuel...
What's up with the morons who see only a tool for being able to commit graffiti crimes? Oooh, hooray, we can paint rooftops and not get caught by the cops. Get a life, loser.
I realize that there probably isn't much inertia in the counter-rotating MRBs... but do you actually get much preservation of Nr when you chop the throttle to idle? I'm assuming that there is a free-wheeling clutch (e.g., a sprag clutch) to allow the MRBs to auto-rotate if there were an engine failure? If so, have you tested this? If so, you are a brave man sir! Awesome design! Keep up the great work!
hi my name is tony from ire fantastic heli .did you build it yourself ? is the frame made from alum or steel , what type of engine is in it ,cc, whats the flight time ?i would love to make one , thanks tony.
Does it fly higher than 10 ft ? All the videos only show it 10 ft off the ground...lets see it do more than hover or do you loose stability when moving faster?
i could probley try welding a seat to a bar than weld the bar to my go-kart engin then add a fuel tank to the back behind the seat and add a string so when you pull the string it spins the propeller faster and thats practily what that is
Sweet. When you do build one more dangerous and entertaining, take a video and post it as a video response to this one. Bonus points if you add freakin' lasers.
That's a pretty nifty gizmocopter. It's a good thing that building something unusual and interesting doesn't depend on getting permission from a committee made up of youtube watchers... Watchers and doers are two different things.
And...even if all the motors just simultaneously die on you, the rotors still turn some, allowing to you to make an emergency landing. It certainly won't be a smooth landing, but unless something gets caught in the rotors themselves, you should land in one piece...it's a DIY aircraft...u shouldnt be flying very high anyway.

it costs about 25000 us and no it cannot be autorotated as the blade pitch is fixed. The website for it says they are developing a ballistic recovery system for it as an optional extra. Sounds pretty indispensable to me.
There are four engines mounted on a single transmission that operates both (counterrotating) sets of blades. It can still operate normally on three engines, and can still safely land on only two engines.
then 2 motor rotates clockwise and other 2 counter clockwise, so if 1 engine wre to fail, it would be 1 engine versus 2 engines countering it. so you would get autorotation no?
and what if the 2 engines that fail is both for say counterclockwise rotation craft would spin to death. but overall very nice work.
All four motors feed the same transmission, and then the single transmission operates both rotors. The transmission adjusts the gear ratios between the two motors to provide for straight flight or to rotate left or right.
(wanna buy a lawnmower engine powered helicopter kids?29k! how about some magic beans?)
even if it works as advertised you'll kill yourself without a rotor to autorotate and direct your forward momentum or whatever. death trap / fake kit who knows- i ain't pay 29k to find out lol.
This helicopter has two rotors, one on top of the other, rotating in opposite directions, so you won't autorotate. The transmission is set up so that to rotate the craft, the rotation rate of the two rotors changes, but for straight flight the rotors move at the same rate. And you don't need to pay 29k to find out, just go to their website and poke around.
