  • thanks for that !

  • holy shit, EVERYONE on youtube covers this song , but no one does the chorus RHYTHM PART! god dammit! he plays some fucked up chords that noone knows. i fuckin hate it.

  • @radulica as a general rule for when you are playing, if you dont know a chord, then you probably arent ready to be playing the song :)

  • @JoshKerrMusician dont worry. i know what note it is. i just dont know the chord variation. cos a chord could be done in 1000 ways and still be on the same note. Anyway, we played sex on fire live and it was awesome.

  • Great vid, BTW Chelsea have not been the same team since they got rid of you !

  • @Durberville1 True, but my heart was always with United. No one played a 5 yard sideways pass like me in my prime. :-)

  • You really helped me in learning this song thanks

  • yep thats the one! Wogans perfect recall. awesome stuff mate.. il keep my eye out for you in Pointless too, il get back to you on that one.

P.s loving the axe skills! seen and learnt a few things from your videos!!

    Cheers dude

  • I just seen u on a tv game show hahaa. Well done

  • @Neil1303 Fame at last! :-) I'm assuming you saw me on Wogans Perfect Recall? A bit of a heroic failure sadly. If you're in the UK, keep an eye on Pointless on BBC1 as I'm on that with my girlfriend soon. See if you can spot me.

  • what tuning is this song in e or drop d

  • @NOImjoshbrown This is in standard tuning (EADGBE).

  • Love this video, such great explanations, gonna keep me busy for a while! Thanks.

  • bald eagle

  • hey bald eagle

  • Thanks Andy Your vids are always Great Tutorials!

  • 0:32 HAHAHAHHA :')

  • grear lesson mate

  • The bend part should be played on the 11th on the E and the 13th + 14th on the B to bend, play the 14th on it's own and bend, repeat 1st bend then down to 9th fret and bend a final B, hope this helps, you taught me my 1st song thanks :)

  • i play the first part of the intro with open E alternate between 16 and 14 on the A string, seems to sound about the same

  • @greendayforever2k9 It is actually exactly the same, as you are playing the same notes but in a different position. Actually, the way you play it is the same way KOL do but I taught my way because you don't have to move your hand position at all, which should be easier, especially if you are singing at the same time. I'd suggest that you just pick the method that suits your own style.

  • very good teacher. Have tried loads of vids for the intro riff and this was the best one. By any chance do you know buzzcocks 'ever fallen in love'?

  • @sandyp196 Actually, I do. Its quite straighforward chord-wise and the main hook riff is picked out from an open E chord, using your little finger to fret the couple of notes that aren't played on the open strings. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

  • Very clear and helpful, many thanks.

  • I am new to playing guitar and this may be over my head but i like the way it is all broken down. I would hope to see many more tutorials by andybltt. YOU ROCK DUDE!

  • cheers lad,this really helped.

  • @MaGicMcF trollin?

  • Does it sound the same on acoustic or will it sound different I mean duh it will sound different but should it be similar or do I have to get an electric

  • who else is guilty of cleaning their nail with a pick?

  • Thanks a lot man, this is great. I'm a fan of many of your tutorials since you play the songs as they are really played or immensely close to it, and they are more accurate and just sound way better than the majority of tabs that are posted everywhere else. Thank you so much, you are really helping an aspiring professional guitarist. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing more of your videos, keep them coming.

  • Wow I thought I was playing it correct but hey I've learnt something new. Thanks your examples are excellent.

  • Sounds Great bro =) i'm gonna give it a try =P

  • Nice lesson. Well explained.

  • is it a bass guitar?

  • thank you!

  • Lovely stuff mate, cheers.

  • Love the way you stare at me when playing

  • thanks man

  • great

  • thank you so much!! really ten minutes for learn it!

    you are the best.

  • Great tutorial the most accurate I found on YouTube thanks!

  • Thank you very much. Great method and speed of explanation, and really nailed the sound! Cheers

  • hey can you tab this for me

  • thanks a lot really good video. thanks!

  • i got lostt. whats a b string????

  • lol be for you learn yer songs learn yer strings and some chords 1st

    it helps (:

  • @JustCantQuit Fail

  • Absolutely great. Very patient explanation. Please keep them coming!!

  • the bend in the chorus is a pain in the butt on an acoustic lol

  • thank you very much!

Its very easy to understand what you play: )

  • im getting lost at 8:47

  • @bluehippie69 - he played it wrong at that point anyway, you have to hold the high E string while you release the unison bend back to "D" on B string, to emulate the original dissonance.

However, this seems like a good lesson.

I recorded an arrangement for 1 guitar if you want to check it out. I'm thinking of doing my own tutorial since I had to learn this song inside and out.

Some of the parts in the original song aren't even theoretically correct. But it's a catchy and popular song. :)

  • hey at 6:44 are you just plucking g&b?

  • I love it how you stare at us :) very good better than all the others ive seen thanks v much

  • Thanks Andy... find it much easier watching and hearing someone play than tabs

  • the intro is d minor 11, and the next bit is more like a ninth or something, deffo a major and its played on 3 strings, and the d strings the 5th string not the third, 11 on the D??? grow up will you!!

  • ij voddeman ga iemanders de ballen breken met je zever, er zijn heel veel mensen die andy dankbaar zijn met zijn uitleg die volgens mij goed aanvaardbaar is als lesmateriaal..this is in netherlands if you want to now

  • this is 4 kommindiepuschen

  • good vid thanks

  • i've seen many vids but with this one i got it from the first... 5 stars

  • thank yoou loads man

  • Well put and easy to follow...

  • Nice one .

  • u rock dude

  • Excellent! Appreciate that.

  • rocks luv u man

  • wich effect did you use???

  • Little bit of crunchy overdrive, some reverb and the neck pickup on the guitar should do it.

  • Nice one thanks !

  • Very useful - thanks

  • Nice lesson, I just started playing guitar and I can follow along with this lesson. Good job man!

  • what kind of effects are you using?

  • pretty good some parts of it are wrong though

  • excellent ....really enjoyed it

  • Great job. Very well explained and demonstrated. This was a really big help! Thank you!

  • Thanks Man Really Helped I Was Struggling Finding The Right Ryth For This Song Cheers (:

  • great lesson much appreciated VERY easy to follow, i have the signature series of your guitar because i could never afford a gibson lol =)

  • Nice work mate!

  • fab, i can almost play it only just after waching it!

  • probably a bit easier to play the first section on the 16th and 14th on the A string instead of the 11th and the 9th on the d string, although they are the same notes. The chorus should start on the 5th fret on the B string and the open high E as you do in your monkey c cover

  • Yep, it's the old "many ways to skin a cat" scenario. You can play this in different positions (the singer in KOL plays the whole intro riff moving up and down the E&A strings) but as long as yo play the right notes and it sounds right then it's cool.

  • yeah sorry I didnt mean it in a bad way as I know they are the same notes. Probably just easier for singing with. What about the chorus does it start on the 5th fret with the open high E? Your lessons are amazing by the way. Is there any chance you could do the rest of Mr Brightside instead of just the intro because all the tabs I have read for the verse are wrong as I have seen how he plays it on stage, but just cant figure it out. Seems like a huge stretch though.

  • Yep, Mr Brightside verses are a huge stretch in the second half because I think he moves the whole thing down to the 4th or 5th fret. My hands aren't big enough to play that stretch so I stay in the original position, which is why I don't post a video on it. For the chorous on SOF, I now play the D2G4B5 chord (E5) to open the chorous, which is different to how I show it on the video.

  • no its easier on the D string actually mate

  • hi! can you give the tabs?

  • cheers :D *****

  • great, thanks, very thorough....

  • wrong

  • thanks man

  • great job, but i cant get my guitar to sound nice while playing it? i think its my amp? what should it be set on

  • i have a black strato caster and a m-20 amp it sounds to clean its horrible so i bought a distortion pedal now the sound is fantastic

  • You want a slightly crunchy, just breaking up sound on your amp (maybe about 5 on your gain?) and then have your guitar on the neck pickup for a mellower sound. For the chorous part, push up the gain to get overdrive, use a delay pedal if you have one and switch to the bridge pickup for a toppier sound. Hope this helps.

  • cheers m8 anothr gr8 one, im confused with the pickd part wit 76 nd 4 i dnt kno wen to play it but thanks any way would you do a cover on mornin glory nd sum arctic monkeys thnks ur a lej

  • another great lesson m8, gonna be using this one for the next gig, thx again man

  • good stuff, cheers mate... good patience u have!!

  • Hey this Vid was so straightforward no tabs needed at all keep up the good work !!!

  • what effect do you use?

  • yep, it´s not so easy to figure out which effects he uses..-

  • Great video man. The tabs were having me so confused but this taught me everything I needed to know. I'm subscribing for sure.

    Keep up the great work!

  • wow that was easy! just to need to practice with singing it now. can you do some snow patrol and cold play too?

  • Thanks. :D

  • fantastic again. Your teaching style is EXCELLENT

  • dude u rock couldn't ask for a better explanation on plain it

  • For the intro, its way easier to play the 14th and 16th on the A-string than playing 11th and 9th on D-string, as you wont have to "jump over" any strings

  • It's relative as some people may find it easier to move across the strings (as I have demonstrated) rather than move up and down the neck (as I think they actually play it). Whatever you find easier will be best for you but this way worked best for me, which is why I taught it like this. Sounds the same either way though.

  • Aye, thats true. Correction.. it MAY be easier to play it 14th and 16th on the A string than 11th and 9th in D string :)

  • THANK UUUUUUU!!!#

    U R GR8

  • good lesson, thanks

  • hello uncle :) u kept me and katy very entertained!

  • Spot on bud, after the lesson could you put it all together so we can hear what has been learned?

puts a nice finish on the lesson :)

  • thank u so much for the lesson ure gr8

  • can you please do a lesson on how to play "sway" by "the kooks"???

  • thanks so much! that really helped!

  • thanks your lesson was great but as i like the sound of my own voice could you maybe put verse chords in there so i can sing and play please ive tried mixing your lesson with an acoustic lesson but i cant do it cus the acoustic teacher doesnt have your teaching method , cheers

  • very useful thankyou :)

  • Thanks heaps! Thought i was playing it right until I saw your vid. Great work!

  • Andy can you please tell me what sort of effects you are using to get that sound? Please and thank you

  • I'm using my faithful Zoom 8080 Superplayer (Rythm Patch) which I used for just about everything. It has a little overdrive, some gentle reverb and a little compression in the patch. Chorous is more a Mesa Boogie drive sound with delay. Hope this helps?

  • Yup! i am using a BOSS-ME50 and with the compression and a little muff... ( I like saying that! LOL!! ) it sounds pretty good!! thanks again for the reply!!

  • Excellent lesson of a great song. Thanks.

  • he made it on my b day

  • Thank you so much, that helps me a lot.

  • awesome thanx man

  • Very nice job dude, first one I've seen on youtube that was even remotely close to the song lol

  • Comment removed

  • great intro nd i now know how to play it

  • Nice one mate, really helpful

  • Must admit i disagree egodub. I find it sounds better on the 11th D string, then moving up to the A. At least on my guitar, it doesnt seem to like the A string

  • u have a beautiful guitar

  • The opening riff is all played on the 6th and 5th string, A string 16th and 14th frets sounds better meng

  • awsome again andy ! can you do some police covers next

  • i only just got a guitar an i just cant get used to it what can i do?

  • practise loads its not easy

  • Another fantastic tutorial. By far the best on you tube!

    Love you baby K x

  • HI!!!! This is Marcia!!!!from facebook...the one that is now getting annoyed with mobsta easy j..anyways, cool video

  • wow.. does he ever look away from the camara

  • I can't understand how this is hard to understand. Good job man. Sound good. Love the Les Paul.

  • it's a little hard to understand

  • Plus, a elf is technically correct although it may not sound it. "A" is derived from "an" and both are acceptable. An example is hotel/'otel where both words sound right. Look it up ;)

  • my little finga!!

  • this was great, thankyou so much!

its completely different to all the tabs ive looked at and it is perfect, so thanks alot.

you couldnt tell me what effects you use could you please?

    thanks, x

  • just found your vids, great tutorial, really broke it down well nice one

  • u are playin this really wrong

  • andy your a great teacher and ive learnt a lot from you but the way you are playing this is wrong, by quite a bit.

  • great lesson

    your an excellent teacher

  • the verse riff is actualy played on 16 and 14 of the a string still banking of the low 'e' but this version is easier to sing and play at the same time, also try using the open b string at the start of the chorus as opposed to the fret9, well done mate,

  • beautiful guitar :)

nice vid very helpfull to new guitar players

  • hey, do you reckon you could post a video of you playing to the whole song?? that would be great! :)
