hey guys i want a precision bolt action rifle. what rifle should i buy and what is a good inexpensive caliber. also do you need a certain license for something like 110 ba or a sako trg?

@driveby14000 If you live in america you dont need a license. You just need to be over 18 to buy one. Both are over 10 lbs so they are bench rifles. .308s are a lot cheaper than .338 to buy off the shelf but all serious bench shooter load their own which requires a bunch of materials and equipment but is worth it if you do a LOT of shooting. In any case bench shooting is NOT a cheap sport.

I'm gonna be honest here. I am "normally" not a fan of bolt action rifles due to the fact that follow-up shots are dependant on how dextrous you are in operating the bolt (which I need a decent amount of improvement on). That Remington 700 and your Mosin, however, are excellent and are definitely causing second thoughts on my part. I may have to pick one up in the future. Lovin' the long distance shooting, by the way.

Also, Bugget has nice (heavy) taste in rifle parts. I would personally NEVER consider looking at any Burris optic, but I am curious as to how you saw it perform in tracking, repeatability, and lower light situations. You should look into a Vortex PST for probably the best budget optic out there. Mine tracked amazing, and the glass was quite clear.

I like the Nutn videos, but I would classify the 300-600 shots a more of a mid-range shooting with a precision rifle. The comp I personally compete in is a mid-to-long range comp where we shoot at 600, then 800, 900, and 1000 yards respectively. We have guys using .223's out to our 1000yard targets and being extremely competitive. A .300WM is a powerful round to be shooting at only 700 yards or so when you have all that land to shoot on, but then again I don't know how big your targets are.
