  • This over 4 years old now and I am resisting Neal's requests to take it down. Neal is still making music. See the video response above and several clips on my Channel, especially have a look at Tri's "The A Set" - never said his titles were original. As well as Irish band Tri he plays with acoustic band The Fallows. Regards

  • Neal is still playing and making great music. Have a look at the more recent clips on my You Tube Site. Regards.

  • Have to go learn morning dew now.

  • Fabulous Music puts a smile on my face always!

  • this is the best recording of Drowsy Maggie on Youtube! thank you sooo much!

  • People who play like this inspire me to practise all the more ! ( exept for scales !! those are anoying at times !! hehe)

  • yes, i agree!!!!! glad to know somebody agrees (my teacher certainly doesn't)

  • You just make my day...absolutely brilliant tune :) Added to favorites

  • i watched Titanic at least a dozen times and actually never noticed this song being so amazing..and after some searching about the name of the song ect i found this video and i really really love it..so beautiful, love to listen to it all the time but its so short but your arm must get tired after a while :)

  • Love the musicality of this version. Some folk race at this and miss the music in the tune (myself included)

  • mwhaaa!! finally tracked you down you down on youtube now! I can't belive how fantastic you are at playing the fiddle, even though we hate each other(not really) I have to admit, your fiddle playing is amazing.

  • wow, you actually know this guy???

  • Anyone involved in Midland Irish sessions, folk clubs or the National Acoustic based Festivals knows Neal. Peolple at school like comment above sometimes do not realise how well he plays.

  • well, they should.

    that would show them! XD

  • amazing

  • thats so beautiful.

  • Neal fantastic playing you remind me of my late and great friend mairtin byrnes

  • your fiddle playing is clear and articulate, and stylish all at the same time. I can really hear your ornamentations and it is a huge help to me when I want to learn how to play these tunes with a little more style. You might want to tune the bass and record this one again though...or make sure the chords are right in Drowsy Maggie, no offense intended.

  • this guy is brilliant. great posting.

  • Is that Tony McElhinney from Halesowen on bass?

  • His name is Mike.

  • i am only just learning drowsy maggie now i am depressed :( there are so many talented people on youtube!

  • Misery love company- I'm in the same boat. I''m picking up the tin whistle at 41 years old and find 6 y/o kids better than me. But hey- that's a good thing. More beauty is more better! Gives us something to shoot for.

  • Ha me too. I'm a classically trained violinist, and used to being top dog. Now I'm trying fiddle music and feeling depressed at all these deceptively simple songs that are actually really hard to get to sound right, even with all my training. I'm going to go cry into my hat now.

  • same here!!

  • @deargciarog That's a tautological pleonasm dude ^^. But agreed - I'm picking up the violin for the first time in 8years and am both mortified and duly in awe of the talent on youtube. How's the tin whistle 2 years on?

  • @TheBraincat Glad to see you enjoyed the clips. Hope it had something to do with you picking up the fiddle again.

  • Drowsy Maggie was Neals first tune just over 18 months ago, if you stick at it things get easier.

  • @GUKLASMYD Thanks for telling me that. (I'm 4096quagmire, by the way. Different account. Confusing, I know). It has, I think. I still can't play it as well as this, but I'm getting there. I like to play this one on the whistle, since it's more fun :D

  • @4096quagmire But if only the most beautiful birds sang in the forest, the forest would be a silent place indeed. Use what you have and have fun!

  • This is also Gaelic Storms "titanic set" which they play on the movie "Titanic", when Jack and Rose are dancing in Third Class.

  • no it isn't

  • Hills of Connamara I thought.

  • no, it isn't hills of connemara either. It's an irish polka called "Ryan's Polka", and gaelic storm included the same tune in their rendition of hills of connemara as intro and as interlude.

  • it does just keep playing it slow

  • Great fiddling, and playing there! Please post more!

  • Great playing, post some more tunes please.

  • Nice ornamentation, keep at it you have real talent.looks like a good place for a night out.

  • Beautiful

  • As the guy in the video jokes, "they want to be associated with talent". Keep practising, you have the ability to go a long way.

  • i play this song with my girlfriend and the sound is great, but you play it godlike!

  • how 3 instruments can built up a whole fantasy of neverending green meadows..

  • Fantastic

  • i agree 2:D, shame bout it being rly dark. quite like this version

  • Tamworth Folk Club tradition, got to have candlelight even in the middle of summer. Makes recording difficult.

  • i love irish folk music

  • i agree!!

  • amazing
