OMG I must admit Domingo has done a few good things as a baritone, but Rodrigo? (Really, Rodrigo?) Oh no!!! Terrible. In fact he sounds here alike a purely spinto tenor - far from a Verdian baritone. Oh no!!!!!!!!
@wattever333 but it is a difficult area and the content is tragic! and after the concert the problems with his voice did start! so how could he look happily?
SPLENDIDO ESEMPIO DI COME DUE INTERPRETI NON C'ENTRINO UN TUBO CON QUELLO CHE STANNO CANTANDO. TRA UN DOMINGO CHE NON SA LA PARTE E CHE DEL BARITONO VERDIANO NON HAN PROPRIO NULLA E UN VILLAZON VOCIFERANTE E TECNICAMENTE SCARSO, ANZI DEVASTATO ( PER NON PARLARE POI DEL GUSTO E DELLO STILE, A DIR POCO ORRENDI ), IL RISULTATO COMPLESSIVO FA SEMPLICEMENTE RIDERE.
Tenor or baritone Domingo is simply amazing: the stunning quality no matter whether it is 1970, 80,90 or 2000 and as we see still stunning in nearlly 2010
Placido Domingo otiginally sang baritone roles and later switched to his world-renowned tenor reprtoir. He is now very successfully performing baritone roles again--most recently, Simone Boccanegra--to a great acclaim.
Eventhough it's a nice try from Domingo'so side, the sound of a Baryton doesn't come close. I much prefer Domingo in the tenor role of Carlos as when he sang this wonderful duet with Sherril Milnes years ago. But OK, it's a live performance and you have to give the public something they can thrive with. But let's stick to the real thing....a baryton/tenor duet please.
Fantastico Domingo encarnando a Rodrigo.
Gosh, Domingo really sounds terrific as a baritone. I wonder if instead of retiring from singing completely, he'll just switch to singing baritone roles. Simon Boccanegra at the Met, La Scala, Vienna in the 2009-2010 season will definitely be a terrific opportunity to launch a new career as a baritone. Maybe he'll finally be able to sing Don Giovanni after all.

Wow, domingo sounds really interesting here, givin me more hints about how's goin to be hid upcoming Boccanegra...Villazon is disastrous here, terrible diction, and missing many many notes, a shame.
Interesting choice for the two... more of a symbolic choice than an artistic one, IMO. The two's voices, for me, are so similar in the general colour, it sounds a bit like two Don Carlos singing simultaneously. Still, this is enjoyable.
Domingo is clearly still feeling this duet as Don Carlo rather than Rodrigo.; he even starts sing as Don Carlo at 5:05 before realizing that he is the baritone in this instance.
mmmh terrible....

if he could only control his lacrimoseness. (lacrimosity? lacrimosità? LOL), and his nasality,
and if he could have some facial expressions (other than "look at how difficult this is"),
he would be great.

incredibile, che grande musicista è Domingo, gli errori del libretto non sono importanti, un'autentica lezione di canto all'urlatore che ha accanto

well... Vinay switched to baritone in the early sixties... why shouldn't Domingo do it too! Great singing! Bravi!
