  • Absolutely beautiful. How anyone (much less 10 people) could dislike this is beyond me.

  • O_° too beautyfull

  • great post friend. now his is wot i call talent!!! mike liverpool

  • No words can describe their talent WOW

  • oola

  • Lovely!

  • Wow!

  • Love this!

  • SO pure...

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Always a delight to hear Jake play. He's natural to this ukulele!....pure genius!...

  • WOW!! This is just stunningly beautiful music... such nice complementary contrasts.

  • the breakdown that started at 1:57 was soooo aaaamazing... takes a lot for a song to give me goosebumps. When you listen with headphones and your eyes closed, you FEEL the music

  • wow...that was awesome!!!!!

  • 10 ppl need their head examined!!

  • That's The Way To Play Love The Guitar And The Ukelele....

Dont'Know What I Would Do Without Music

    GreetZzZzz

  • I learned guitar playing my own way, without books and teachers, so I easied the load of training by taking one by one another string to the soundmaking. I can say that I only used upper e to a strings on my first gigs. Nowadays I have made it a must to learn the lower strings, and 4 string bass is very good on that training.

  • @NesteHukka2 for you maybe. some people aren't as talented as that. i too am self taught (and still learning)

  • god that was freaken amazing, I havent heard something this great in a long time

  • still so amazed by this

  • That made my night!

  • beautiful.........wow...I'm blown away.

  • Is there any place I can find this to download onto my iPod?

  • @jaysparroww Just google Video2mp3, copy and paste the URL, hit HQ, and ur done ;)

  • This piece is indescribable in it awesomeness.

  • This song is transcendently beautiful.

  • jake and chris should really go into talks about an all acoustic duet album!!! i would buy 10 copies and give them out to some of the people i know. gentlemen i am amazed at the clean, smooth, and joyous sounds that you two have made together. this song resonates pleasingly in my ears. i hope you enjoyed making this vid as much as i enjoy watching it over and over keep it up. PLEASE GIVE US MORE

  • Just discovered this. Wow! What beautiful music.

  • This is incredible, you two are great

  • I think I'm going to abuse the replay button a little bit.

  • 3:48 to 3:53 gets replay about 6 times :D

  • only two modes -.,- Em Dorian ,C lydian, so good

  • ok my mind was blown....! i think it would be insulting to play my guitar from now on :P

  • such a soothing, lovely piece.

  • ...no words can describe...just amazing...*****

  • Man, this version is so different from the other version of the song. Chris Burgan, although he kept it simple, it still worked really well with Jake's playing. Jake, as usual, is really good, and flexible too. I really want to rip this and listen to it over and over. I wish that Jake would drop by at our school. -.-

  • Just amazing.

    Fav'd.

  • GHS like the strings or like a high school?

  • i never ever ever ever ever get tire of this song.

  • Man, I haven't smiled from a guitar jam in a long time. That rawked!

  • simply awesome!

  • I never wanted it to end.

  • That makes me feel like clapping at the computer.

  • so amazing!!! and yet i can't find wherever the favorite button went too! D=

  • @YouAndMeAreWe it's under 'save to'

the new layout for youtube stinks, huh >w>

  • best acoustic duet .... ever

  • type "sungha jung" in search box. you will see amazing little guy.

  • I love it but then again I always liked your music Mr. Burgan I hope you never stop playing because you play beautifully.-

  • That was great.

    Both Chris and Jake.

  • imagine how rich he could be, if every video would be linked with iTunes

  • Wait, so who is this guy? never heard of him before.

I know Jake.. but have never heard of the other guy in my entire life.

  • beauty

  • is the picking that he does he makes up on the spot like improv or a freestyle kinda thing? or does he write that stuff b4? bcus i wanna learn how to do that sooo bad

  • @headcrae must be improv... takes experience and imagination/creativity i guess

  • @headcrae yeah it's improv. you just take notes out of the chord/scale and play them with different rythyms. it's very hard to do, but keeps it interesting every time.

there are a lot of books and play alongs if you want to learn, mostly you have to learn the notes of the scale and practice.

  • hes been playing since he was 4 years old so hes could be improvising. you just need to know your instrument to be able to do that, know how unique each note is from the others. it takes time and creativity.

  • @headcrae

Both players probably knew what key/scale they would be playing in before they started, making it much easier to improvise.

  • @MourningsEnd Ya think??? LOL Duhhhhh...

  • Brilliant.

  • this sounds reminds me of the time I was building houses in the Sims, they had such songs too

  • awesome-ness

  • so damn soothing :D perfect harmony..

  • god...this is sooooo great!!!

  • malmsteen should do a song with this guy......

  • good sound

  • Fantastic! Jake and Chris make a great team!

  • God, this song puts me in a trance

  • Absolutely lovely. Jake's sound is wonderful and so peaceful and soothing. Agree that I would have liked Chris to step up front a bit also, but really loved this.

  • damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • i love the way uke and guitar sound together

  • Definitely compliment each other really nicely. Maybe it's because the uke tuning is similar to the requinto guitar's tuning.

  • Lmfao, I just read this comment and totally agreed with it before realizing I was the one who originally posted it.

  • brilliant~ Awesome!

  • what is that at 1:42?

  • its a natural harmonic

  • 12th fret harmonics

  • i dont know but that was cool

  • harmonic

  • u gently place your finger right above either the 5th, 7th, or 12th fret and by plcuking the string it will create what we call a harmonic.

  • pinch harmonic... sorry, I'm a perfectionist. but everything else you said is absolutely right.

  • Absolutely awesome.. would have liked to have seen some improv from chris though :(

  • Very nice! Well done guys!

  • Howdy all,

I have not checked in for a while...

Thanks for all the kind comments about this post. It really was fun to be a part of.

    All the best,

    Chris

  • Wow.

  • Love it!!!!

  • man, Jake's solo-ing abilities while maintaining the original melody are freakin amazing

i wish i could learn to solo/improvise the way he does

  • That was insane!

  • Oh man, I was in that audience. This performance almost moved me to tears. He's breathtaking live.

  • They both are.

  • True that. I wish I'd been able to make it to Burgan's shows more often, he always told us about them but I could never make it. D: *failure to take advantage*

  • if only this guy toured more on the east coast :(

  • God damn! those two make a fucking awesome pair!

  • very good

  • More strings doesn't necessarily mean more music. Sometimes less is more. Jake is a ukelele player, not a guitar player. They are different instruments.

  • To sfv6 - I'm an idiot for pointing out your ignorance? Care to explain? This ought to be good.

Unless of course you were joking, in which case well played.

  • totally awsome

  • i know some say that jake and tommy emmanuel jam was like better but for me this one is like 1000 better.. both players are in complete harmony and it is so well accepted by your ear and mind which forces you to listen to it more than once.. Really Awesome!!

  • it's sounds like it's showing all the beautiful points of the world...New York at night, a sunrise at Mt. Fuji...morning at an Egyptian oasis...afternoon at a deep jungle waterfall...and sunset at the Grand Canyon...

  • No it doesn't.

  • Really nicely played from both of them.. sounds like heaven really sooth and.. well wat can i say im out of words :) .. Beautiful is how i can decribe this using one word

  • He is not!,He's better than that!!!!!

  • Jake is a GENIUS!!

  • O.o perfection

  • Excellent.

  • The shivers are still running up and down my spine... just awesome!

  • That must've been amazing to be there.

  • wtf

  • Anybody! have you got the e-mail to Jack? Thank you to answer

  • Is that an Ottmar Liebert song??? Wow, this guy is really good! First time hearing this player. Amazing song from that little guitar...

  • its not a guitar its a ukelele...^^

  • more like ear orgasm!!!!!!!! lmao

  • eargasmic!!! -totally...

  • Ear candy!! Gorgeous playing.

  • Incredibly eloquant !

  • That was freakin' awsome!

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet jake+Other Dude=holy SHI+

  • Pure bliss... I gotta go buy Crosscurrent right now!

  • damn, that was full of sweetness!

  • sweet tune

  • (jaw dropped)

  • Nice peace full sound

  • I shame on myself to play ukulele...

  • loll don't say that spacedogs, I'm sure with a little more will of practice you can be as good as him, if not better !

There is no limit on what we can do, just have faith in what you do and you will improve for sure !

    God bless you !

  • guess a little more wong be enough

anyway... its worth trying i guess

  • Increible, este musico es excelente.

  • truely amazing

  • Yo Mr Burgan!!! This is Nolan Nakai, Dustin Gilmore friend ..You were my Art teacher at GHS and when we started up GHS guitar club in 1999. Props too you jamming with Jake!!

  • If we had kind of music as today's music, then there wouldn't be as much violence in the world

  • lol wishful thinking violence has always existed and always will, its ingrained in our species and no ammount of music or hippie libral mumbo jumbo will ever change that.

  • that's true

but this music is so angelic just love it =)

  • Indeed all of jakes music calms the nerves.

  • I really wish Jake would stop doing videos I cant have them all as my favourites!!!!

    This is beyond thunderdome

Just so so good, loving having the internet for this! this music makes up for most of the cr*p in the world

  • This is a classic example of what music should be like these days.. Not all the shitty rap/hip-hop stuff

  • EXACTLY

  • Some people just dont have tast. They need something as little complicated as posable= (c)rap

  • rap has it's place in music just as jake does, by "tast" or taste, you must mean preference. grow up plz, the "you cant spell crap without rap" line died in the 90s.

  • It is funny how ironic rap is. White girls in suburbs listen to it and it is the music always making all girls seem like bitches. They say shit like"fuk dat hoe" or shit like that and girls listen to and say"i like the beat" like some dumb bimbo.(i am assuming u r a girl)

  • not all rap is like that. there's intelligent rappers out there but they get obscured by the ones who go for mainstream.

  • Comment removed

  • mmm yep audio-gasm

  • after seeing this video i dont even want to c what kind of music chris burgan plays

  • I could listen to this all day

    abselutly stunning

  • muy bueno

  • eargasm

  • creative bastards.. nice..

  • its like an orgasm for the ears!

  • word... orgasm

  • This just hit my ears g-spot.

  • There are no better words to discribe this!

  • GREAT,GREAT,GREAT.

  • this is an amazing song this guy has so much passion for his instrument

  • Wow, truly some musical dunces in this thread. Jake "dominated" and "owned" Burgan? LOL. That's like saying that a quarterback dominated his left tackle in football. Have you guys heard of playing "rhythm" guitar before? It's called a supporting role. The idea is to support the lead player. Get a clue.

  • what are you even talking about? this is a great song, both musicians are awesome, they play fantastically together- and who even said those things? i went back a few pages and still didn't see it. before you came on here and posted, this front page was filled with altogether positive comments. i don't know everything about music, but i know this is top notch- i'm not a musical dunce, but i'd rather be a musical dunce, than just a dunce. it's called, "don't be a prick."

  • Looks like someone needs to go back and read the entire thread. Pretty sad that Chris Burgan has to come on here and read about how he was "dominated" by people who have zero understanding about music. My comments were in response to some posts far down in the thread. Take it easy.

  • well, he definitely wasn't dominated, at least we agree there, but i don't have time to waste reading this entire thread, so it looks like someone needs to rethink their philosophy on deciding what other people need to do. i'd rather just enjoy how amazing these two blessedly talented musicians make such beautiful music together and hope that they get together again and that i get to hear it. and i'm sure you'll find that there are some amazingly dumb people everywhere, if you already haven't.

  • er... apparently... wereallidiots made coments down the line about how he couldn't find the comments Roadwarrior35 was talking about... "page 7... or 7 pages before this"... well... comments get deleted.... alot... especially if it was a gay comment about the video

  • rock on, i guess that must mean that my comment wasn't gay. it also could have been that i just wasn't going to go read back any further with less and less relevance. i also thought it was a rather negative way comment, since i had noticed more people who just thought the whole thing was awesome in the sample i took, and don't consider myself a dunce. i've been deleted too but i think those comments must've faced discrimination, because they were heterosexual.

  • good god! it just gets better with age! these guys really need to get together and do some more work so i can buy it. i love how keenly they listen to each other, and complement each other so well. Chris Burgan is exactly the stong and steady intuitive back-up Jake needs to give the power of his uke more momentum and stability. bravo- encore! encore! oh, and "let's dance" has to be my second fave of Jake's, by the way, close call though- what he does with george's classic masterpiece is amazing.

  • Crosscurrent has become my alltime fav Jake tune. While my guitar hangs in the #2 spot. Both are beautifully done.

  • No 'duh' for you man. I got it from another poster just out of stumbling across it:) I think it is a Jake orig. He's a great musician and as a guitar player for 45 years, I would rather watch Jake that almost any guitar player at this stage, mostly due to his uniqueness with the uke.

  • Want to see Victor Wooten, Jake and Crish together :D

  • amazing of course- does this song have a name, or were you guys just jammin and this is what came out? and Chris, please, get together with Jake again and record something and upload it, this is one of the best Shimabukuro recordings on youtube, i'm sure i speak for most when i say we want to hear more, much more, and by some miracle if we could get you two in a room with Chris Thile for a jam session, i'm sure everyone with decent pitch and half good taste would absolutely love it! rock on..

  • and of course by that i meant that most anyone who could seriously appreciate great music on even a casual level would be fascinated and that anyone with a finer sense of what absolutely amazing music sounds like would be transfixed and truly touched and further be driven to listen again and again and again, much as i'm driven to listen and relisten to just the two here

  • Good grief, if Chris Thile and Jake got together anywhere near my neck of the woods, I'd be all over it.

Actually, they've both played on the same outdoor stage in my town during our free summer concert series. Excellent concerts, both of them. There are some moments that can't be relived, only remembered.

  • dead on mate, that would be incredible. jake keep inspiring all.

  • the song is cross current

  • a very nice piece of music! Jake rocks!

  • anyone knowing the chords? searding my ass off to find them.. (well the one the steelstring guitar is playing, chris burgan)

  • sounds like he's just alternating between C and E(min7)...Turns major at 1.24 with G C Em C

  • wtf, first go-round on this vid.

i'm sure to refresh this one a few hundred more times.

    thanks

  • favorited... damn lovely

  • B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.

...Mahalo for sharing this wondeful playing...

  • I just dream of some threesome between Jake Shimabukuro, Tommy Emmanuel and Andy McKee - I mean, er, in a musical way.

  • ahahah those 3 in ANY kind of way would do me!!

  • This is the second video of Jake I've seen, and he is a master class musician, no wonder he got to play with Tommy Emmanuel.

  • unbelievably well improvised

  • A-fucking mazing...
