  • we can make it if we try

  • Should be viral but we all know why it's not. So good!

  • Brilliant lyrics .. x

  • Great Voice! Love the Southern Sound to the guitar... I think he was from somewhere in the Carolinas.

  • @TheGraphitte He's from North Carolina. There's another version of this song where he talks about writing this song in Spain when he was homesick.

  • Oh boy, I've seen fire and I've seen rain too..those old bad days..but it does get better and better,,,

  • GIANT SPACE ANTS!

  • this was such a sad song and he was so morose--it was a happy time for generation but this cat Taylor was a buzzkill for sure

  • i was in rehab 3 months ago for a heroin addiction and when i got out i was pretty upset and really torn, didnt know what to do. I stayed at my parents for a while and was really depressed...my mom played me this song, and i listened to it Over and Over again and it helped me so much. thank god for this song. Im 21 now, and ive been clean for 3 months. I love james taylor <3

  • @hellokittyjunkie12 Awesome news! I love how this song inspired you. I hope you always stay clean, you owe it to yourself. Congrats!

  • @hellokittyjunkie12 I'm 59 and have been fighting heroin since 73. My only release came thru my Higher Power I call God. I suffered from "Terminal Coolness". But this time junk brought me to my bottom. I find much strength in 12 Step programs like A.A. + N.A. God's Peace be with you ONE DAY (24hrs) AT A TIME!!!

  • jwheyer..............hate to tell you... but someone always OWNS the music

    and James Taylor ..isnt dead

  • That's and ...AWESOME sweater.

  • MOD 3.. theres only two kinds of music.. creative and good...and crap...this is the former..and 10 people must not have taken their meds:P

  • Just my opinion... But I think once an artist dies.. No one owns his music or work...It is for everyone.

  • In 1970 I was in Nam got a dear john in the mail

smoke a joint and this is the song that I felt

    and it was good

    thank you

  • This is REAL music....if you listen to a song today and think "man...This beats any older music like that James Taylor crap"..Then i will say to you..."And you take how many milligrams of Paxil?"

  • Ouvia-se bem em 1970 e hoje também!!!

  • Beautiful song. :)

  • Barb Lee Hess Remmember

  • great song, if you don't know the meaning of the song wiki it.

  • Where is this from, por favor? The BBC show with Joni Mitchell?

  • So brutally honest! Love it

  • I'm 14 and this is the one song I listen to over and over again:') x

  • Such a beautiful song

  • songs touching, watching this video makes it even better

  • this song has saved my life...many times...i have severe depression..like James Taylor

  • @dawncek I love your honesty!!!! I wish more people were able to admit it like you. I have it too but unfortunately I deny it.

  • People can say whatever they want about what I'm about to say. I make techno/electro-house. But I think that James Taylor is probably one of the reasons that music hasn't died out. He introduced free-will in music. That is one of the most important things in techno. He's the reason I make music. And I thank him so much for never giving up. Thank you.

  • @M0D3Mofficial Deadmau5?

  • @xcajb What about him?

  • @M0D3Mofficial free-will in music... what does that even mean?

  • @NotDuncan You see, when learning to finger-pick the guitar, there are certain dos and don'ts. There's a whole big ordeal with technique. James Taylor doesn't go by the rules when it comes to finger-picking. He has his own unique style that is very hard to learn.

  • Now im not gay but id deffinatly let him knock down my barn doors! (It means id let him butt fuck me)

  • @vasilberkut You sure you're not er, a fag?

  • @vasilberkut but that does make you gay? if not then what?

  • 42 years ago a man sang a beautiful song. And that song is just as beautiful today.

  • Geeze can someone tell me how to erase that darn comment???!!! ALL I WAS SAYING WAS HE WAS A HUNK WHENVER HE WAS YOUNG. THAT IS ALL

  • @msthomas82176 That'll teach ya to be careful what ya put in writin'

  • @msthomas82176 I don't know what you said because you removed the comment but whatever it was I forgive you. I'm sure James Taylor would agree. You're saying you'd like to erase the comment and you've removed your comments. I don't know how much more could be asked of anyone..

  • 1970. God. I remember playing this song at my guitar workshop graduation. I was 13. Since then I've seen too much fire, and it's rained far too much. But here I am, with memories I'll never forget. Thank you James. Thank you.

  • you'll hear a million versions...no one sings it like my boy, though...

    just the best....

  • One of my all time fav. song's..

  • thanks mr.james for a very memorable song....

  • @msthomas82176

I expect he wishes he still looked like this too.

  • @lameplanet hahaha yep! Love those days

  • @msthomas82176 He looked a lot like Brandon Boyd of Incubus at that age.

  • @msthomas82176 we all have to change.. sunrise doesn't last all morning

  • @originalnumber9 hahahaha i thought it did:):)

  • @msthomas82176 Time on this earth ages us no doubt. Some day if we are lucky we will all have the opportunity to grow old.

  • Listened to this since the day I was born. Thanks Dad <3

  • hard to believe he went nuts

  • @maaikevn let me help you THIS ONE :)

  • as of jan 03 2012 suzanne will expire love all of you

  • Timeless

  • I dont care how old you are, just listen to the song!

  • James Taylor has a way of touching your soul with his words and his music in a way so intimate and long-lasting that we all feel like we've known him our whole lives. Rock on Stringbean. :o)

  • But I always thought I'd see you again. So sorry I didn't. Many "never agains" just came to be. Thought about you everyday. Will miss you forever.

  • That's some kinda beautiful

  • were doing this song in Classroom

  • Born in '88, my parents also played James Taylor while I was growing up and I'm so glad they did.

  • In a BBC interview he said the song chronicled his experiences in mental institutions, such as his stay in McLean Hospital in Massachusetts as a senior in high school, and the suicide of a friend. The fire in the song refers to his shock therapy. Rain is the cold showers that follow shock therapy.

  • My song when in rehab, it kept me strong and I am 11 years sober for it!!

  • the best song ever

  • You like James? Check his son, Ben, out. He's good.

  • I wonder if Neil Young was jealous ?

  • @PupuTheClown NOOOOOOOOOOO

  • I friendship is a fragile thing. So hard to form, so easily broken. Never abuse what you fought so hard to gain. It can never be replaced, it cannot be duplicated. I am sorry baby girl.

  • speaks so well about my lost love. I was always hoping I could make up for the choices I made in the past, but alas, she told me to move on and forget about my hope of coming back with her. She claims she has found a new life and she is at peace. I can only wish her happiness.

  • I love this song. Compare it to Mockingbird with Carly Simon. I think of the opened eyes in F&R (JT's challenges are well documented elsewhere) compared to the free wheeling days of Mockingbird. It brings me hope of how things can work themselves out.

  • i was born in the 80's, but I've loved james taylor as long as I can remember.....thanks dad

  • 9 people should think about offing there selves!!!

  • @turboinside88 They were so impressed that the hit the Unlike instead of the Like button, by mistake!

  • Masterpiece !!!

  • reach to the bottom of my soul

  • such a great artist!!

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WHAT A HOTTIE,, tiz a shame I was a lil biddy baby and shitting yeller

  • This song always reminds me of my father and how strong he was to survive the death of my mom.

  • Most people don't have a clue what this song is about. It about depression and losing a friend to suiside.

  • EPIC performance from 1970 from one of the master singer songwriters of all time.

  • I want to make a shirt out of his voice. It's pure velvet.

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • he hasnt lost his voice cuz he barely used it

  • One of the most influential artist's out there, and im 16.

  • @CerebalMagnificence

    *artists

artist's is for possession, artists is for plural Jim Croce and James Taylor are both artists...

Record companies often try to steal an artist's intellectual property.

' is always used to imply ownership and never used to indicate that there are many of something.

    There are many cats

    that is my cat's bowl

  • @poleske I could care less about punctuation man, its the internet, everyone knows what im trying to say.

  • I love it and his voice hasn't changed at all!

  • holy shit bro

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • A song from my youth. How I miss those days. So laid back and free. This music will live forever. Thanks for posting such a lovely memory.

  • One of the greatest songwriters of all time

  • Kurt Cobain with dark brown hair! ♥ this music, grew up on it. Nothing more soothing than a solo singer and an accoustic guitar.

  • beautiful song

  • 9 people are deaf and stupid.

  • it don't get any smoother than this

  • Always liked this song even when i was a little kid, now im older i like it even more!!

  • Isn;t He lady Gagas classmate :D

  • wow! He had hair?

  • who and the fuck disliked this?? they need there ass beat

  • totally the best. i was there!! or not!!!!

  • Love your voice James.

  • He was a Stud at age 22

  • I remember buying 'Fire and Rain' on a vinyl single back in the early '70s. The flip side was a song titled "Anywhere Like Heaven"...which also is a great song. In spite of that, I've never really gotten used to the 'bald' James Taylor. But I'm balding too. I try to wear a hat as much as I can. Don't want anyone seeing my bald, naked head.

  • This is REAL MUSIC!

  • James taylor is one of musics icon

  • I have always thought it takes a special talent to pick up a guitar and accompany yourself singing a song without any backing. When you can do it to this standard, it's truly amazing. Not sure what anyone would find to dislike in this gentle and nostalgic piece.

  • Watching (listening) James Taylor takes away the fear of getting bald. Ofcourse this comment makes no sence in some way, but I truly want to point at the fact that as long as make use of your talent (and I'm sure everybody has), nobody cares about your small flaws you didn't choose for.

    This is a beatiful vid,

    Thanks for sharing..

  • This is a oldie,I love it, danced with my husband to it!

  • this is a good song

  • This song reminds me of a Summer spent on the Sardinian northern coast with my 3 sibs and 2 friends of theirs. We had 2 tapes of J.Taylor's songs(CDs were nowhere to be seen at that time). We'd play them over and over again,at all times, wherever we were. So,eventually, those songs became the "soundtrack "of that very special Summer.

I'll never forget it and whenever I hear any of those beautiful songs I jump back to that...incredible time. Thanks Mr.Taylor. Lei è parte della mia vita.

  • Having watched this video and then watching him sing this from 2008...it's amazing how he's changed in oh so many great ways...he smiles when he sings...with age and wisdom..it's just really been an awesome career for him and for us too

  • 9 people dislike this...gotta be kidding me..what is to dislike???

  • @craftycrafter1960 Maybe they're drummers.

  • This song sure brings back memories

  • good music is good music doesnt matter what genre it is

  • I don't care what music your into, this is gold.

  • I was 5 yrs old when he sang this at this particular concert. My older siblings had all his records and I learned to sing many of his songs. Brings back a lot of memories

  • We lost Steve Jobs yesterday.... .... such a beautiful song for such a sad day.

  • If you've ever heard James Taylor, you'll either like him immediately, or like him when you're older. You can't NOT like James Taylor

  • @MichaelBallack91 too true, he's an icon.

  • @MichaelBallack91 hahahah!!!! Michael, its true !!! Thats is almost impossible

  • @MichaelBallack91 wonderful comment , it was both for me, i liked him immediately, and it got stronger with age.

  • @MichaelBallack91 How 'bout I liked him when I was a kid, forgot and then found it again? Sweet Baby James was the first album I ever bought.

  • beautiful voice...

  • no gimmicks just music....

  • @iyot1020 You know they all came just to see that sweater....

  • He looks like a child prodigy, so sweet, humble, so shy. He is so talented.

  • Timeless, brilliant and so full of emotion. Reminds me of my girlfriend that was killed in a car accident, her parents called me the next morning to tell me she was killed. Miss you Jackie :)

  • The only rendition of this song that counts. He is awesome.

  • @rosenthallefty what kind of monkey idiot would ban this song after 9 11? are you serious? did that really happen? Its a freakin song about healing after tragedy

  • The book "Fire and Rain" says that he started writing this song after hearing about a friend who intentionally overdosed on pills. The second verse is about his heroin problems and methadone treatment. The third verse is about his breakdown just before and after his short-lived band.

  • @ZOOMIE906 In the Suggestion List: Amy Winehouse. LOL.

  • @ZOOMIE906 Cool! A "JT Expert"!! I'm real curious about his marriage to Carly Simon. Can you fill me in please?:)

  • old is Gold i just listen this song first time in my life but this song hit my heart at first time.

  • @rosenthallefty

Had they done a little research, they'd have discovered "James Taylor and the Original Flying Machine" was the name of his old band.

  • I've heard james wasn't incredibly confident w his playing. I think he plays great!

  • Lets edit out the clapping at the end so there is literally no flaws with the video

  • I'm speechless. I guess that's what happens when you witness perfection.

  • JAMES TAYLOR was sent here by GOD!!!!!

  • I lost so many loved ones, so one day i asked GOD, why not me instead of them?....GOD replies....it's because you've "LOVED"so many and "LOST" loving "YOU"!.....

  • Just the best!!

  • Easily one of my favorite JT tunes - thanks for sharing!

  • How come acoustic guitars don't sound like this nowadays ?

  • @jojacool Cause music sucks nowadays

  • CLASSIC YET TRUE: James had a girlfriend who died in a plane crash..."Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground..."

  • Thanks!

  • @MsPamelaRickman nothing to do with a plane crash, one of his early bands was the flying machines and they had an acrimonious split.

  • I love you james

  • This is one of the greatest songs Ever written!

  • the 70's was cool, I know many young people who love 70's music

  • Oh yeah and Neil Young, how could I forget good ole Neil
