Well Hale cant save them for two reasons, when Hale came into the room, the chimera happen to hav decided to infect them. second, the soldiers weren't much help nieter. they just yelled FOR help, not HOW to help.

1) the storyline calls for the guys to die, and the girl to live.

2) the soldiers just called for help, but they didn't tell Hale how to stop the Crawlers.

3) apparently the Chimera thought it was Infection Time right when Hale walked in. He couldn't have done much anyway.
