this reminds me of when i was very little in the late 80s and my family decorated our christmas tree and the rest of our house with browns memorabilia, and we would have these 80s browns songs playing constantly. i want so badly to go back to that. i don't know if we still have the same spirit for our brownies as we did before the move, but if we do, i think the rest of the country will be FLOORED by how we react to making the superbowl. and if we win..oh my GOD it will be something to behold
Great post songtruth.Brings back great memories from my senior year in high school and all the excitement that december of having the Browns in the NFL playoffs.
@Thatisntoffthehook lol dude i am from Cleveland and i can tell you they are not. but they are crazy as hell fans . i was there the day the fans tore the stadium apart . oh hey by the way lol Steelers Rule The Clowns.
Yeah, the Modell part does detract a bit from the song, but those were pretty good days for the Browns despite the tank job against the Raiders in the playoffs that year. My best friend had this 45 when it came out. I was 7 years old and already a huge Browns fan. I bought this 45 at a record convention in NYC 6 or 7 years ago.
omg, I have this record, we played it over and over at Christmas when i got it, wow, that was a Long Long time ago........I guess its a collectors item now
What's really amazing is I remember when it was announced the Browns were leaving Cleveland. I had a buddy who was a home inspector who happened to be in Waite Hill the day they were clearing out Modell's home. He either knew the mover or someone helping out but the bottom line was - 2 days before the story broke on WTAM I knew the Browns were leaving. I made a bet with people at work they were leaving - needless to say they all lost!
Art Modell can't come to CLE without getting killed!
How have I missed so many cute little gems like this on your channel in the past? I love these old style record players. I almost bought one last year for nostalgia sake. Love the classic song too. Just like Christmas at home in the 60s and 70s for me. Thanks for sharing this with us S.T. Dave :)
I remember writing the lyrics on a desk at school. I'd write a verse then whoever sat at that desk would write one and it went all the way down the desk. I was surprised nobody washed that desk.
My wife is from Cleveland, we are in San Diego now...she was sining this song word for word, after not hearing it in 29 years. She says she got it at a Burger King when she lived back there, back when she was in elementary school.
The Buffalo Bills version of this song is also on Youtube- "On the first day of Christmas Ralph Wilson gave to me..." Listening that version is a reminder of the reality of the "assembly line" production values of this song.
This song remains a vivid memory to anyone who heard it back in 1980. However, unlike the Browns' songs of the mid-80's playoff years, which were by local Browns' fans, this song was produced in Houston by Progress Records for no other purpose than profit. That company recorded eleven similar songs extolling the NFL teams still in playoff contention. However, the Browns' version is the only one that really sold.
What a great post! Very creative. A video of a 45 record playing... genius... pure genius. Great use of the zoom button. It makes you feel just like you are in your parents musty basement.
this is great! dont cry over spilled milk friends....(like i don't) lol.. the BROWNS are back!! good things are in store for this team and for us fans!!! get ready!! go buckeyes, go browns!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG thanks so much for posting this i got goose bumbs thinking of how proud i was to hear this for the first time and then how sad i was after RED RIGHT 88
not sure if you know this, but is this Elliot, Walter, and Bennett band that played mainly locally in Houston? (sure sounds like it) If so, I grew up going to their shows in the 70's.
Hi. I don't know for sure, but on the 45 it says the songs are produced by Ram Records (A Div. of American Record Corp. Houston, Tx.). So I think there's a good chance that they are your childhood band. I just did a search on Google and it pretty much confirmed it. Thanks for listening! :)
dear friend. where are you? where is your voice? we don´t see you. that´s a great song but where is your singing...well because it´s for you we forgive and vote 5 stars again on this video.
Before we were married, my wife talked about an old 45 with a song called "It" on one side...I'd never heard of "It". We went to her grandparents' house and got the 45. I almost died when I flipped it over and saw this song on the other side. It's been on a shelf in my Browns basement ever since.
Whoo! Cleveland rocks! A little surprised to find this on your page. Now only if it would snow so good ol' north east Ohio can enjoy a white Christmas... it certainly is COLD enough! Sorry for the digression... :)
I loved this record and have it somewhere, but listening to it again, it PISSES me off that "Art Modell gave to me" 3 years without football and countless shit years since 1970 and since 1999...I love the Browns, but FUCK ART MODELL. Die already.
Art Model is an intelligent business man who knew there was no future in Cleveland. Recall how the Browns had to become the Ravens before they could win the Superbowl.
I remember hearing this song alllll the time on WMMS back when I was a 13 year old kid. Thanks for the memories.
