I have been listening and playing for 25 years to guitar players. I always find something unique in the great songwriters' styles. I must learn more N. Drake.
its amazing how modest he sounds- I know little of his personality (nor did anyone probably) but it seems he would be almost incapable of treating anyone with anything but affection- albeit a shy, timid form."A great distress hath humanized my soul."- Wordsworth.
Nick spent countless hours in seclusion perfecting his guitar parts ,lyrics and vocals for his compositions. That is what is required to build anything of meaning artistically. He gave everything of himself in this song and it shows. He left us many amazing songs in his short life. Long live Nick Drake!
His songs combines with my soul, like a reflectiona mirror,so sadly and lost,I feel a kind of friendship for him that I never met,but somewhere he is now ,he might know that his music help a lot, always.Thank You from the bottom of my heart!
The superior version for me. It's the simplicity, the space, the tempo, the poetry in one voice and a guitar. His music is resonant from over the years, a heavenly piece of music, more profound with each listen. I discovered him on an Island compilation in the 70's and still listen to his music with wonder. One of a kind.
HELLO WOULD YOU MIND TAKING A LOOK AT MY VIDEOS? IF YOU LIKE ANY TYPE OF MUSIC, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO WORK WITH ANYONE BE IT ANY TIES WITH MUSIC OF ANY FORM FROM SINGERS TO PRODUCERS TO RAPPERS TO DANCERS TAKE A SECOND TO HEAR MY STUFF IM SURE YOU WILL LIKE IT THANKS!
If you like this version (and you should), it's reason enough if you haven't done it to pick up the "Made to Love Magic" collection. The version there is my favorite Nick Drake song.
Listen to Horn (Pink Moon Album), i noticed when playing it on guitar, there are definite parallels between the notes of Horn and the lyrics of this song. Is it just me? Nick Drake is my favourite artist of all time!
'If my music ever did anything to one single person, it would be worth it.' - Nick Drake. I recently visited Tanworth-in-Arden and payed my respects to Nick's final resting place and I had to fight back tears. I went for a long walk in the countryside and watched a young deer running through the fields and again I had to fight back tears, so beautiful was the running deer, so innocent and full of life and that is the unique magic that I feel every time I hear Nick's music.
@goouttothemeadow Firatly, why are you all talking about Drake on first name terms, you didn't know him? Secondly to go to his resting place and cry when you didn't know the guy is a bit strange. You guys are just a personality cult-theirs nothing romantic (your posts reek romanticism) or tragic (in a romantic sense) about Drake. He made three great albums and gave up on life. End of. If you cry at seeing a young deer you need to get out more, beuty and innocense is all around!
@Nic01224 you are obviously a cynic. You don't have to know someone personally to connect and appreciate their contributiions. It's people like you that make the world suck sometimes.
@Nic01224 Well, yeah, beauty and innocence is all around. And, reading the very post that seems to set you off so much, I think goouttothemeadow gets that. To feel the way that a lot of us feel about Nick Drake's music and its interaction with the story of his life kind of means that we get it too. You might want to ask yourself if you do.
P.S. His death may have been an acident; the jury will always be out on that. There's no indication that he 'gave up' on anything.
@Nic01224 Don't tell me how and why I should or shouldn't feel a certain way. There is clearly much that you simply do not understand. You may think what you are saying is clever or unique but it really isn't - it's very foolish and naive. You don't understand what I think or feel, or what Nick Drake thought or felt. You have no idea. Leave me to my patch of mud and I'll leave you to yours.
I've been a musician for a long time now, and I finally found a home. Each of us has an artist or artists that speak for a part of our soul better than we could. I wish I could've met Nick, I would've given him a strong embrace and said thank you.
@whatsetyouapart His stuff draws you in; it seems to fit the mood. Play this music, wherever you are, and it will work to draw out the best - and the most beautifully painful - of wherever you are and whatever you are doing. I don't tear up often when listening to music. I am happy, really, to say that with Nick this is a rather common occurrence. The pain you hear in his records, you've felt many, many times. It just never had a soundtrack before.
I've only from heard Nick Drake From The Playlist From The Book, "Perks Of Being A Wallflower" Then I saw a documentary on him last night and realized how talented he was. It's cool, we still acknowledge his music over 30 years since he died. Great music
I find this version to be far better than the release on 'Made To Love Magic'. Yes, the 'MTLM' version is more anguished, but I think this is the more polished version, and the one Nick Drake would have been more likely to wish released.

Other than John Denver, I have never heard a voice evoke so much emotion so simply.
A tragedy of nature; a supernatural beauty.
