  • listen to this... and tell me Brahms wasn't in love with Clara Schumann...

  • such a shame that the recording isn't ending in the tonic

  • He is my favourite conductor !

  • This a beautiful posting, many thanks. Here is a man utterly in love with this movement! Rattle is by far one of our finest conductors of the Romantic concerto and symphony - he just gets it right. let him loose with Brahms, Strauss, Bruckner (and don't get me started on Mahler....) and this guy is is the best.

  • BRAHMS PIANO CONCERTO NO.1 SECOND MOVEMENT ADAGIO... My most favourite piece and certainly the most romantic movement ever composed by Johannes. In my mind, Vladimir Ashkenazy's playing of this piece conducted by Bernard Haitink on Decca from early 1980's is the invincible version, but this one's good too, although I'm not too keen on Simon Rattle's funny way of conducting.

  • @TheVaccumtube You notice a resemblance to the slow movment of his first symphony?

  • @TheVaccumtube i think Brahms in this movement 'let himself go' so to speak with absolute passion and intensity, perhaps it shocked him somewhat as i dont think he really completely let himself loose again.

  • @TheVaccumtube I agree with you on "Simon Rattle's funny way of conducting". By the way, this is a wonderful romantic piece indeed.

  • @alexbernstein yes the second movement adagio is utterly romantic, I have dedicated this movement to the love of my life, like Brahms dedicated THE ADAGIO to Clara Schumann as history told us.

  • oh! Ich liebe dise Aufgabe. BPO un Rattle sind wunderbar!

  • Es una experiencia inaudita, contemplar esa bella expresión integral del arte musical! Desde Barcelona...gracias BerlinPhil

  • This guy is rattling good!

  • this is not piano concerto number 1 but number 2...

  • @jav888 This is Piano Concerto number 1, op 15

  • @jav888 It is indeed Concerto No. 1. The excerpt is from its second movement though.

  • this movement is the soul of unrequited love...

poor Brahms. i feel ya, big guy.

  • i´ve tested their digital concert hall. quality is fantastic (video, sound). fast dsl connection necessary. i recommend to sign up to dch, even if youdon´t want to buy anything there. they have various free videos. this concerts costs 5 euros, which is acceptable. but there´s room for improvement (searching, payment procedure).

  • The piano entrance in this movement is one of the most serene moments that I've ever experienced.

  • I love Simon Rattle. his music's just from his true heart. I could smell from his any body movement and expression on his face. so charming conductor.

  • This truly epitomises Brahms love for Clara Schumann. and the pain he went through to hide this emotion.

  • There are moments where it almost sounds like Beethoven....

  • Rattle isn't human; he's music.

  • Fernando (San Manuel (sp) Congratulations Mr Rattle; wonderful!!!!!!!

  • Great orchestral playing. Rattle's Brahms is way under-rated.

  • what a wonderful pianist..

  • insanely beautiful!!!..

    G-dly

  • Till piano entrance, music is beautifully emotional, particularly from 0,50 to 1,43. Music from heaven!

  • wow

  • What a truly amazing scene of music.... :)

  • Amazing... my favorite moment of this piece is here where the strings go down to the low D (2:10 onwards) and hold it while the piano plays such beautiful notes that it send chills down my spine every time I hear it....

  • Quelle grâce..

  • It was said that there were a number of problems concerning Sir Rattle's choice of repertoire, and the players wanted Brahms as a main facet of their repertoire. I now understand why, what a brilliant performance!

  • I would like to watch this performance but can't figure out how. On the website that is given, I can only find a streaming test and some links back to YouTube videos that only have brief excerpts.

  • It is one of the greatest performances of Brahms Piano Concerto No.1! Thank you very much!

  • Awesome in it's beauty. Bravo! TY.

  • Magnifique

  • The Concerto is in the beautiful expressions of Simon Rattle's face, and in his wonderful conducting.... inspired by the superb sound of this amazing Orchestra and it's Musicians, the Pianist.

Even when I should become deaf once, being old, I will still watch the Concerto, and will be connected with the Absolute Beauty... be one with it, again, and again...

Thank you, Simon Rattle... Sir Simon Rattle.
