Now what parent would let their children play with a wild raccoon they found in the woods? See, told you Charles can't say no to his kids and mean it, neither can Caroline. Playing with a nasty dirty raccoon and letting them take it to school where it snapped and almost bit a bunch of kids. If Laura had caught the rabies it would have been her backward thinking parents and Mary fault.

Back when this scene was filmed, they planned on adding shots of Charles' face later, but Michael Landon became very ill with meningitis and was hospitalized. So the scene was left incomplete, because he wasn't well enough to film anything else for it, they just kept the close-up shots of Mary.(Contined)-

Melissa Anderson (Mary) has said this one of her really "meaty" roles on the show, because it gave her a chance to show she could act'

Melissa Gilbert thought this would be her favorite episode, since she got to work with a real baby raccoon for several scenes.But, when the The Lord is My Shepherd episode is filmed it ended up being her all -time favorite.
