i just dont feel any kind of attraction towards the evolver... it seems to be a pretty powerful machine... but its interface makes me really wanna stand back
@mynmyself I didn't either... but a lot of people I talk to on one of my forums love it.. they say its a beast and these guys are mostly into modular stuff so they aren't messing around with cheap stuff most of the time. I keep thinking about picking one of these up and a mopho.. especially for stupid money and then I think.. hell just get the MEK and Mopho keyboard... and then I'm in the price range of other stuff I'd like better. Makes me wanna rip my hair out. Circular....
@mynmyself the poly evolver is quite an in depth synth... thankfully there is a step by step guide on the internet in PDF format. When intimidated, run full force towards it LOL
dumb comment, but I really want to learn how to do this stuff. R u making these beats on ur own or r they on the machine and your just mixing them? thanks!
not really alot of hands on control.. matrix interface is OK though - but it can't really compete with the keyboard version that has the full interface mapped out in controls!
Dont let that stop you though.. the evolver is a beast
Hi Denkitribe, that kaoss pad is insane, I gotta get one of those, thanks for a very instructional video. Sequence is sick!! Reminds me on of the Steve Roach compositions "Stormwarning"??? Cheers :)
@DeRex9 Holy poo...yeah man, it does have that early steve roach feel. I was trying to pinpoint what album... yeah steve roach has come a very long way... peace
Analog oscillators tend to have a better sound usually, but they are expensive to make. Therefore, you have two good (somewhat expensive) analog oscillators to use, but also have a couple (very affordable) digital oscillators that you can add to the sound if need them.
Yep, I fully realize that, and do you realize that if Dave Smith didn't think there was something extra nice about analog oscillators he would have just made them all cheap digital oscillators instead?
Of course sound quality is subjective, but most people prefer the sound of analog over digital oscillators when you compare apples to apples ex. analog saw compared to a digital saw.
Digital oscillators don't sound exactly like analog oscillators. But digital has it's pluses too.
Yeah, wavetables are great, but I can get those from free and payware VSTi's, so why go and spend a bunch of money on them in a hardware synth unless you're paying for the interface? Analog oscillators might not be your cup of tea, but many people prefer a good basic analog oscillator over more flexible digital oscillators. VA's are great, but the evolver caters a bit to the analog lover's who want something analog, with flexibility, at an affordable price.
Anyway, you miss the whole point of why there are analog oscillators, you have some kind of agenda, whatever.
(Yes, it's monophonic, I was thinking of the Poly for a moment)
You've got quite the attitude btw, I was just trying to answer the posters question on why there were analog oscillators instead of digital, not give my own opinion, get off your high horse.
no i dont miss the whole point... the evolver has analog oscillators coz they sound really nice and warm, something u wont be able to do with digital oscillators.
but a wavetable is someting different. its has nothing to do with VA`s or emulating the sound of analog oscillators,
they both are completely different!
there is a big difference between using a digital oscillator to creat the basic analog waveforms and having a wavetable osc.
yeah i was kinda torn between throwing the envy part in but i think it's rude to leave comments about how great the hardware is and ignore the fact that even the best synth in the world has to have a good programmer
yeah, its still always good to have new gear, I just only buy things that are like completely new to my setup, like now that I have a mono VA synth sequencer and a poly VA synth, no more VA synths lol
I think they just fucked up on that effect, its supposed to be like talk modulation, but they put hella delay on it too which covers up the effect, it says nothing about the delay on the FX chart, so Im assuming its not supposed to be there.
I have a mini-Korg keyboard synth that I love, but I've recorded so many songs that I've used nearly all the effects it provides. And I have a Boss drum machine that's a little tinny for my taste. Since I normally record with MIDI cables connected the synth with the drum machine, I'm wondering if I could connect them BOTH to the Evolver. I want more effect opportunities for both the Korg and the Boss but I'm not sure how I would keep everything in sync when I record (I have a one-person band).
lovely little machine, needless 2 say that the 2 digi oscillators r a bit crap, but combine very well with the 2 analogs, and hey folks believe or not it s monophonic!try using it as a vocoder,it s grrreattt.iv e sent a video the track is done with the evolver.
Denkitribe, great videos. I'm thinking of getting a KP - do you have any vids using the KP3 to control MIDI params on a synth, like X=cutoff, Y=reso, etc? Thanks!
Now this is a DEMO! Love the captions, that's brilliant. Living in the rural south US, you can't really get hands on time with these devices, so demos of unusual instruments like the KPs and Evolvers become very important.
I actually have an EF303, and I'm wondering if I could use the 16 sliders (since they transmit CC and such) to control each line of the DSI matrix...I would have one preset for each row of 8 X 2. The EF303 is a useful and enjoyable instrument to use..and no damn menu paging!
Good videos man. Just ordered a KP3 and had something to do with your vidoes, so thanks. For $400 you can get some pretty decent effects from Lexicon and TC, not to mention all the analog 1-trick ponies, but what-ever, real time control is the trade off. Also picked up an cheap EF-303 from ebay yesterday.
Dude, I just bought an EF-303 at a pawn shop a month ago for a hundred bucks. Not a terrible unit but I pity any full that bought it full price when they first came out.
I had an EF-303 I paid about 150 on ebay, and sold it for the same. I'd really like one of those expensive Pioneer FX boxes, but that aint gonna happen anytime soon.
You're right naq, these videos helped me decide if i buy one kaoss or not (thanks), but one or two video is ok, not 10 or 15! and the keyboard evolver has the same machine as the rack if not a better one, just read it, i don't have to be great. you won't find any synth more tweeky than the Evolver (analogue & digital in one machine).
just wondered if you can use the monoevolver key board in the same tweeky way that u can with that desktop one.. anyone? oh and lets hear some of YURIVALDES music if hes so great.. im pretty sure that what ghostradio is doing is making music however you look at it anyway.. peace.
Everybody would like an evolver, i never said the kaoss effects are not great. my point is this guy does not have to get weird wasting time filming his kp3, and instead have to start making music, then it'll be great to watch his videos. But if these entertain guys like you (gadgets & not music freaks).
I normally would agree with you but Denketribe is pretty amazing. Please look at some of his other videos with the kaoss pad or the evolver and electribe combos. He'a actually really good. I don't care for this stuff though.
Are you planning of making music with that? or just wanted to look nice making videos. applying filters to some videogame's music is not that fasinating, you know.

thchris 2 years ago
and that is why it doenst make any sense saying the analog oscillators have better sound then the wavetables, coz u use them in different ways,
a wavetable will never sound like a VCO/DCO, while a wavetable will never sound analog...
you cant really compare them anyway.
its like saying a sampler with a good realistic drumkit sounds better then a 808...
both are used in different ways and cant be compared.

how much is the kp3?
77Grim77 3 years ago
i think the talk function is a formant filter, which gives ur synth vowels sounds, it is really cool tho :P
inund8 3 years ago
kp3 doesnt need a computer to run right?
if so, can you connect a keyboard to it and use it to trigger the kp3 (pitch and velocity triggers)?
inund8 3 years ago
can any1 explain whats goin on here? lol whats the KP doing?
jon6123 3 years ago
its adding echo and slight formant filtering, not much, all the sounds are coming from the dsi for the most part

Does the EvolVer have midi thru? if it does, you may be on a winner, however there are other ways of connecting them.
