they have some nice fish here, ive been getting mine at meadow view fish farm in Mancheter UK, they are very competitive with some very very nice fish available.0161 371 0232
wizard in bin 1 why dont you add airball to agitate the k1 when cleaning ? just like the eazypod be more efficient ? gonna go ahead today and build mine got 75 litres k1 see how it goes from there , any ideas for finally polishing the water , or is none required , also got a protein skimmer coming ,reckon i should use this before the first bin ,gravity dropped
This filter has now been running successfully on a 3000 gallon pond for about a year.
Kaldnes K1 has been proven in fish farming "Koi are typically fed at between 1% - 2% of body weight per day. For every 5 grams of food fed,1 litre of K1 media is required in the moving bed bilogical stage " - in my example 65 litres would easily support 325g food/day [or 16kg [35lbs]of koi].
@WizardAt69 Hi I agree K1 is great stuff but I've been experimenting with different food safe plastics and have found that plastic water bottle caps work well I scuff them up in a cement mixer with some sharp pieces of steel to provide places for the bacteria to cling to then use as K1 in one of my filter chambers. While not as good as K1 there is something fun about cleaning water with potential litter and they are free.

Do you have a air ring/stone in stage one? or just in bio stage two? nice setup by the way
DanielOzzie 7 months ago
@DanielOzzie just in stage 2. I now place an a few airstones in stage 1 but only to agitate it whilst cleaning

Just add more stage 2 bins to support more fish.
K1 in my opinion is fantastic stuff.

WizardAt69 1 year ago

what do you top it up with .tap water is full of crap and kills the benifical bacteria that you just built up in your filter ????

@ANTUK4
The pond pump tops up the filter. The pond water is topped up with pre treated water

Why don't you connect a pipe to the discharge valve and put it down the drain instead of using a tub?

I agree with u zeamus. y don u connect a tube or pipe to the drain instead of using a bucket??

@Zeamus634
This prototype was flushed into a bucket to enable ease of checking the flushed water
