Manufactures make extremely egronomical and accurate firearms that excel in competitive shooting but not in the realm of hunting or combat. Throughout history, being 12 years old was considered crossing into adulthood; and by 14, most people are pretty capable of doing most things an adult can. That should include defending themselves. (Many places allow driving at that age, too.)

Bullets don't care how old anyone is. They'll kill kids too, if they hit them. Therefore, kids should know how to fire back, perhaps even more so than adults. It's great that Dad shares his hobby with his daughter. She looked very good for a newbie. In general, most YouTube vids of new or first time shooters, violate rules which makes it easy to easy there was no PROFESSIONAL instruction. No NRA Certified teacher lets anyone shoot without safety glasses. They also would never start with a .40 cal. Once you learn to flinch, it's very hard to unlearn. She handled it well, though.

Nice to see someone teaching early, its not uncommon to go to the local indoor range and hear the college students laughing and playing and its really kind of scary to hear laughter and see people playing at a gun range. Its fun but it is serious and dangerous at the same time and I think if its taught earlier maybe this wont happen.
Not trying to nitpick, but I was surprised to see that she didn't check the chamber before slinging the gun down to her side. I realize the slide was locked back, but it's still good practice to check. Either way, it's great that you are teaching your child to shoot. My dad taught me about firearms very early. He bought me my first gun at 9 or 10, if memory serves correctly. Great job!

In the sporting world competitions are often held where only very small calibre firearms with limited killing potential (such as the .22 short rimfire round) are allowed. Manufactures make extremely egronomical and accurate firearms that excel in competitive shooting but not in the realm of hunting or combat. Can these firearms be used to kill living beings, sure but there are much better options available to kill.

Bullets don't care how old anyone is. They'll kill kids too, if they hit them. Therefore, kids should know how to fire back, perhaps even more so than adults. It's great that Dad shares his hobby with his daughter. She looked very good for a newbie. In general, most YouTube vids of new or first time shooters, violate rules which makes it easy to easy there was no PROFESSIONAL instruction. No NRA Certified teacher lets anyone shoot without safety glasses. They also would never start with a .40 cal. Once you learn to flinch, it's very hard to unlearn. She handled it well, though.

And there is no law that restricts safe handling of a handgun, or any other firearm for that matter, to a certain age. Props to TheRealDubyagee for teaching his kids how to safely handle firearms.

my dad just got an XD compact as well..my dads been teaching me about guns since i was 7..its kept me alive when my ignorant friends dont know as much about guns as i do..i know how to disassemble and reassemble and load and reload one of this babies within a few minutes..im 17 and in the army and i know my share about guns..so teaching your kids and even your neighbors about gun safety is very beneficial..NOT teaching children or even adults about gun safety is the real killer

There is no "XD 40 compact" -- there are three variants: 3-inch subcompact, 4-inch service, and 5-inch tactical.
The only variant that is available with 4/5 inch barrels and a compact grip is the 45 ACP model.
I really hate to be this nit-picky, but it annoys me to see/hear someone call an XD-Service "compact" -- it's not compact.

Nice to see someone teaching early, its not uncommon to go to the local indoor range and hear the college students laughing and playing and its really kind of scary to hear laughter and see people playing at a gun range. Its fun but it is serious and dangerous at the same time and I think if its taught earlier maybe this wont happen.

Not trying to nitpick, but I was surprised to see that she didn't check the chamber before slinging the gun down to her side. I realize the slide was locked back, but it's still good practice to check. Either way, it's great that you are teaching your child to shoot. My dad taught me about firearms very early. He bought me my first gun at 9 or 10, if memory serves correctly. Great job!
