A red dot truly has lots of wonderful amazing meanings- it means a woman has a husband because if god forbid the husband passes away then the women has to remove her dot, now that's one the other is in reference to lord shiva who had three eyes, the third eye kept a watch on any evil women in India used to be considered very pure and the red dot on there forehead kept them from evil. There are so many many more interesting explanations to the red dot every Hindu in india follow.

@Wolfsbane909 Apparently, hindus in India used to apply sulphur (red) to their forehead, seemed to sharp their mind. But now it comes in all fancy colors I guess. I have seen a bunch of Indians wear different designs and colors.
