  • Yummy!!!!!

  • is that your own personal recipe? using the mixer and the slow cooker is a great idea. i'm definately going to try this method. thank you!

  • These aren't refried beans. But at least you left the liquid in there. My "white" friend lets all the water evaporate and then uses a drink mixer to mash them up. Very thick. Yuck. That's why I made a video, so that she could see how it's done.

PS: It should be called "fried" beans everywhere, because how many times do you actually fry them? Once. :)

  • Your recipe is wonderful, and I appreciate you posting it! My Mom and I are really excited to try it! Thanks so much!

  • @niknicgb Leave out the salt or bouillon cubes until AFTER they've been in the slow cooker all night.

  • When I worked at a resturaunt Taso's they tried adding oil to canned beans and cooking them in a big pot. I wasnt a big fan and I am not used to mexican food. Needless to say they were gone in 6 months time for a new job lol..

  • Your daughter is adorable! Recipe seems decent. Thank you!

  • Your daughter is adorible!!!

  • In what grocery stores can we buy rotel in the USA? Thank U for the video. Also in Taco Bell they add a red sauce in the bean burrito. What sauce is that? Do U know?

  • I don't mind the criticism but let's keep the language clean.

  • When you say overnight..how many hours do you mean...?

  • @20krysNash11 7 to 8 hours. I've left them in for ten, just make sure they have plenty of water.

  • @yiminnybuck and on high the whole night?

  • @20krysNash11 No, only have them on high before you go to bed. Then turn down the heat to very low. My slow cooker has hours instead of temperature, sorry.

  • Adorable! I love it! You're little girl makes it perfect, she's so cute! I will make this recipe tomorrow, thank you for posting! :D

  • @missdebrafox Thanks, she's a lot bigger now but still just as cute. The only thing I'd change now is when to add the bullion. Some bullion has salt which delays or even prevents the beans from softening, so now I add it afterward and use some of the hot bean juice to dissolve it.

  • taco mix is enough usually for flavour

  • haha yellow perfect with breakfast taco. Thanks!

  • haha cool, i'm gonna wear a yellow shirt.

  • This wasn't my first 'doh' moment with a yellow shirt...I rode an ATV in Mexico wearing a yellow shirt. Came back covered in RED DIRT.

  • I'm glad to have found a recipe without lard or bacon grease! I was looking for an easy and healthy way to make beans next time we have tacos and this is perfect! This is a great alternative for people who are watching their weight or vegetarians! Thank you so much!

  • Isn't there supposed to be lard in refried beans? Some people say it doesn't taste the same without it.

I cannot find lard at my grocery store :(

  • This is a low fat recipe. Lard is animal fat. Try bacon grease or sausage drippings--you will accomplish the same thing.

  • @sonjasway I would add about 5 or 6 chopped jalepenos to 28 oz. of diced tomatoes. I usually use 4 cloves of garlic, but knock yourself out. I would change the recipe to use NO SALT during cooking.

  • I couldn't quite get the ingredient name that's the tomatoes and peppers in a can. Was it ROTEL? And where can I get that?

  • you can find it in any grocery store in the canned food aisle along with diced tomatoes.

  • I got pinto beans and now im gonna try ur receipe ...took me so long to find this video again.

  • Thanks for the great nonfat refried bean recipe-going to make them tomorrow. The video was extremely well done. Your daughter made my day...she certainly was a well-behaved little girl and very lucky to have a great dad like you!

  • I'm making these right now, I am entertaining tomorrow for dinner. The recipe looks great, i'll try them in the morning and post what I think.

  • hey i just got into liking refried beans ..A friend of mine told me that i can buy them at grocery store but i couldn't find them anywhere...i watched the whole video and it looked good..i think im gonna try it ...thankyou sir

  • that is the cutest kid ever! i love how she ran from the flying beans. thanks for the smile.

  • Now we run from her AFTER she's had her beans...

  • I think you did a wonderful job. Pay no attention to the idiots who think they are

chefs. Everyone missed the most valuable thing in this video...you let your daughter assist you. Its priceless!

  • BOTH of my daughters assisted me! One was the cameraperson. It was great fun.

  • This looks like a really easy recipe I will try it for sure. Spend some time with your family making home made recipes instead of fast food and can goods, My mother in law is mexican and you should see the way she whips up her dishes of excellent mexican food, pots a clanging a little of this a little of that I cant even follow her direction you never know what shes going to throw in there. Thanks for sharing your recipe:)

  • We had fun with our mess. I'm sure you're mush better at fixing up your chebby vato.

  • you shoulda taken ur wig off before you whipped ur beans, u realy made a mess. ur rite there ws no milk, but a can of rotel? lol real authentic did gringos own the taco stand.

  • BEAN MILKSHAKE? i can gt better beans in germany

  • Where did you see any milk? I got this recipe from a taco shop in a town near New Braunfels, Texas where "Das Leben Ist Schoen" (spelling). So put your German bean recipe on youtube. I'm sure we'd all like to try it.

  • This method is Blasphemy!

That is nothing remotely close to REAL re-fried beans and is lazy and sloppy. Nobody gives their food Love anymore its all about set it and forget it lol. these are pureed steamed beans not refried delicious beans...Dont go confusing the 2.

  • Your god is beans? There is no 'steam' involved here. And if you haven't tried the recipe, you have no idea how good it is. But hey, it's just food.

  • I dont need to try that, its garbage. Anyone with the slightest of culinary skills will agree thats bogus and Ive been a professional chef for over 25 years. thanks for the laughs tho my friend, the hand mixer had me rolling! cheers!

  • Nice video and cute little girl. Nice to see parents and kids cooking together. You know, a stick (immersion) blender would do a much quicker and less messy job than the hand mixer.

  • Thanks ive been wanting to make refried beans forever... Now thanks to this recipe they are scrumdidilyumpcious!!!!

  • Jaqueline is adorable, great video, will have to try it thanks, Carmen

  • Hello, I made these yesterday and they are wonderful! I will NEVER buy canned refried beans again! So easy and delish! Love the little girl, she is a cutie!

  • Just a note: I KNOW THEY'RE NOT FRIED. If you want to use lard or bacon fat and fry them afterward (adding a ton of calories) please go ahead. I think if you've tried this recipe as I've shown, you have great tasting beans and lower fat, too.

  • They looked a little runny. Could I just add less water to this?

  • You can always drain a little more off at the end. You want to make sure they're tender.

  • Great Video thanks for sharing! Going to try this tonight before I go to bed. I LOVE the idea of the rotel addition. Probably a good reason why your refried beans are not bland like others I have tried.

    Thanks again for sharing! =)

  • Thank you very much. That was very helpful.

  • I've tried your recipe and its pretty tasteful. Didnt have the green peppers and forgot the garlic but its still very good.

  • I wonder why they call them refried beans?

I now know how they are made now!

  • I'm Jamaican, but i'll tell you why. This guy is actually wrong.(but has a sweet daughter) You ever "looked" at refried beans and they look like a big plate of mush? its becouse they were traditionally cooked in its juices, like this guy.The sauce then dried out which left the beans. The beans were thrown in a pot with a little hot grease and mashed with spices to make refried beans! That's how they are really made.

  • @mikeygeneral

ur 100% right but this method can be a healthier version, since no fried oil is used.

  • cool beans

  • chicken bouillon cube, yes it is like chicken stock powder.

  • VERY HELPFULL...THANKS...GOOD JOB.

  • Thanks for this great refried beans recipe. We are stationed in Germany and Mexican food is almost non-existent. I have made it twice for guests and they love it. Thanks again.

  • THANK YOU, SIR for your service to our country! Glad you enjoyed the recipe.

  • the little girl with the cute little hat just warms my heart... so cute..............

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • Your little girl is darling. Enjoyed watching the video.

  • Thanks!

  • Amazing recipe!!!

The taste is just numbing to the mouth :]

Thank you for the recipe and i really appreciate your help!!!

You should take a whole line of mexican recipes :]

  • This guy IS in Texas, and so is the Taco stand where they sell a hell of a lot of tacos with beans from this very recipe in them. And they're good. You might have 'come across the recipe, but you obviously never tried it.

  • I soo MISS mexican food too!! There are no mexican restaurants here in upstate New York :( I gotta try this out to remind me of home!

  • I put the slow cooker on high for about two hours and then leave it on over night for around ten hours. I used to use a potato masher...not as much fun with kids around watching Dad get beans all over a yellow shirt though.

  • When you are scraping food off of a cutting board into a pot, or whatever, DO NOT use the sharp side of the knife. Use the side with no edge. You will dull your knife very fast. Also, if there isn't any lard , they aren't authentic mexican refried beans.

  • Point taken with the knife edge, however light of touch I may actually be...as for AUTHENTIC MEXICAN beans...you'll find that in MEXICO they prefer mostly to use black beans rather than pinto beans as we do in TEXAS. If you like lard, use it--I know plenty of folks around here who don't.

  • Might I suggest using an immersion blender (aka "stick blender" or "boat motor") instead of a hand mixer? It should prevent the beans from going everywhere. Alternatively, you could use a blender or food processor... but that just creates more dishes to wash afterwards :)

  • That's a great suggestion.

  • Love your sidekick!

  • cool beans

  • another way to reduce a tendency towards flatulence is to eat beans more often--three times a week! Refried beans are easier on the system, and the above are even more so--because they are especially soft and have been cooked for over 10 hours very slowly making them very easy on the digestive system.

  • Stay happy with your semantics.

  • I live in South Texas. I have refried beans almost every day. If you'd have watched closely, you'd have seen that I drained almost all of the liquid off. If you like 'frying' yours, that's great for you! As for taste and how they hold up in the average breakfast taco or texmex dinner--the recipe above works just fine--especially for folks who don't need to be eating more 'fried' fatty foods!

  • Thank you for your variation of refried beans they are healthier. Refried beans use lard. I use just a tblsp. that really gives it a lot of flavor. It's wonderful to see you and your little girl cooking together!

  • Actually, I found the guy's delivery and the little girl so distracting. When he opened the can of salsa (bleek) I knew it was all wrong. A real mexican refried beans is so much better.

  • That wasn't salsa bucko, that was ROTEL.

  • I'll match mine against yours any day.

  • "It's all in the tortilla" (use lard instead of shortning) I LOVE refried beans on NACHOS too!! Right in the middle of a mess of chips...with nacho cheese (of course) poured over the beans and chips, then a healthy dose of sliced "Jalopeno Peppers" dropped onto them......YUM-yum. Serious eatN :)

  • Hi, I was wondering if I could use canned pinto beans instead??

  • sure, just skip the overnight in the slowcooker part.

  • aww that kid is learning how to cook with grandpa...shes a darling, I want some of those refried beans! Give me some for my nachos!!! email me for my address and mail it to me on dry ice!!!!

  • That's not grandpa...that's daddy!

  • Forgot to add this, I enjoyed watching this presentation. Thank you. Maybe next time, I'll try it with the onion and Rotel.

  • Hey art2, thanks for watching. I'm a fan of those other tacos too, especially chorizo when it's done right (not too greasy).

  • My family & I use the same procedure with the beans, except we don't use Rotel, onion, garlic, and boullion. We use pinto beans, water, few slices of bacon, and some salt to taste. There are some mexican restaurants that the beans are as good as what we make 'em. I'm guessing that they use lard and cumino. I hate to say this to you, but I think papas con huevo (potato & egg), and chorizo & egg are my favorite breakfast tacos. :P

  • Great recipe, so you don't use any butter, i've read other recipes that call for butter. Thanks for making me hungry.

  • Some folks down here like to add bacon fat. If you want to stay with the more digestible stuff, try olive oil and a little extra salt, or even chicken bullion.

  • i made them without any fat at all i used your recipe they were good, i didn't have pinto beans at home so i used brown beans instead.

  • Thank you very much for the nice presentation! I will try it! Your little girl adds some real spice and charm, very cute.

  • I didn't know that they are not fried! Live & learn!

Your little helper is adorable! cinco estrellas!5 yummy in my tummy stars!

  • I used to until I tried them this way.
