Thank god Paul and the boys didn't play with them this time. And...you can see Dave wince just before they start--hope he was outfitted with earplugs.
I don't know why, but when he started soloing, I just started laughing. That performance makes almost everyone else who's walked on that stage look like crap. I wish I could play half as good as that.
@jfsj513 I burst out laughing once at a J solo gig here in Sydney when he'd finished a solo for a similar reason. I just thought "I'll never see anything as brillant as that again, and the bloke's armed with nothing more than an acoustic guitar (and admittedly about 12 million watts of marshall and effects pedals), a loop pedal, and he's sitting on his chair beside a kitchen table on stage." Blokes in front of me weren't impressed. Had it been a Dinosaur Jr gig they'd have never heard me.
I plan to bury a time capsule containing Dinosaur Jr's record collection in the hope somebody will dig it up in 50 years and say..."Fuckin awesome!!!!!"
I think it was when Kilborn had The Daily Show that I saw him come on with double 100 Watt full stacks that sounded DIMED and did Sludgefeast. You could see Kilby and the first couple rows retreat, but they hung in there and saluted the Rockness. Awesome version.
Whup ass! I've been living in Central Europe so long, I didn't even realize they had a new record out. It will be a fine day when the English language and American culture finally monopolize the entire world's media. Kidding.
No, it's just one of those reissue precisions. He got it after their gear got stolen. He said it didn't sound very good, so he plays the Mike Dirnt signature model now.
As for plugs, I hate them with a passion. Of course I have also lost about 30% of my hearing thanks to not wearing them. Fortunately, no permanant ringing, though.
Loudest concert I have ever been to was Dinosaur jr. in San fran (warfield) probably around 91, 92. I was right up near the stacks, OUCH!! my ears screamed his solos a weak later.
Yeh ive seen them 3 times reading 92 i saw them in 95 and i saw them last year in Manchester i totaly agree they have got to be one of the loudest bands going don't Forget Mudhoney man they are fucking loud aswell
big-ass marshalls in a small club = your ears will be fucked. can't that that sound and feel any other way though. i'd love to see them live. i'll just put a little tissue in the ears like pansy.
not really, considering he's introduced them on his show about 5 times now and still doesnt remember a thing about them and has to resort to reading a cue card to introduce them
Pretty safe to say J's guitar work caught David's attention. DJ performed twice before on Letterman before this. Three time's a charm, I suppose. :P D Jr. and Letterman ftw.
I was left very deaf for about 3 days after I saw this band last year in a very small venue. I was right at the front. Kinda ruined the gig it was that loud. Still, standing at the front was my choice.
EVEN LETTERman was enjoying that by the sounds of things. getting into this album at the moment. it's great to have the band out there again in the original form, cause it means i get to see them at leeds festival this year :-)
Seen em live then (back many years ago) seen em as the Fog incarnations, seen em when they reformed, will see em this year. Got all the bootlegs too. After over fifteen years of going to the gigs I still think they can be annoyingly messy live. Maybe J simply prefers being the only guitarist on stage but his recent use of backing loops for his solos when playing acoustic suggests he has also recognised the drawbacks of that position.
Really needs a rhythm guitarist when live so that those solos dont leave a big gap in the rest of the sound. After the album version this sounds awfully messy

Who the hell rolls with full stacks these days that are cranked full up...Dinosaur jr that's who!
The audience must have been concussed. Something tells me the cab mic's were redundant...lol. There was no FOH guitar or bass required.

Mascis proves once again that Jazzmasters and Jaguars can be awesome lead guitars if you know what you're doing.
