  • Thank god Paul and the boys didn't play with them this time. And...you can see Dave wince just before they start--hope he was outfitted with earplugs.

This just makes me feel good.

  • I don't know why, but when he started soloing, I just started laughing. That performance makes almost everyone else who's walked on that stage look like crap. I wish I could play half as good as that.

  • @jfsj513 I burst out laughing once at a J solo gig here in Sydney when he'd finished a solo for a similar reason. I just thought "I'll never see anything as brillant as that again, and the bloke's armed with nothing more than an acoustic guitar (and admittedly about 12 million watts of marshall and effects pedals), a loop pedal, and he's sitting on his chair beside a kitchen table on stage." Blokes in front of me weren't impressed. Had it been a Dinosaur Jr gig they'd have never heard me.

  • I plan to bury a time capsule containing Dinosaur Jr's record collection in the hope somebody will dig it up in 50 years and say..."Fuckin awesome!!!!!"

  • Lol this song is in skate 3....

  • Search the web guys, both Beyond and Farm got great reviews...

  • I think it was when Kilborn had The Daily Show that I saw him come on with double 100 Watt full stacks that sounded DIMED and did Sludgefeast. You could see Kilby and the first couple rows retreat, but they hung in there and saluted the Rockness. Awesome version.

  • Who the hell rolls with full stacks these days that are cranked full up...Dinosaur jr that's who!

The audience must have been concussed. Something tells me the cab mic's were redundant...lol. There was no FOH guitar or bass required.

  • barlow is "the shite"

  • Comment removed

  • Mascis proves once again that Jazzmasters and Jaguars can be awesome lead guitars if you know what you're doing.

  • can't underestimate lou and murph's importance - but j is still the man

  • Is J just playing the root note in the verse and chorus?

  • just on the chorus i think

  • totally effed up the last verse, but we'll forgive him.

  • Whup ass! I've been living in Central Europe so long, I didn't even realize they had a new record out. It will be a fine day when the English language and American culture finally monopolize the entire world's media. Kidding.

  • I'm glad. Because even as an American I would be sick to my stomach if that happened...

  • is he singing through an sm57? That's kind of interesting.

  • Thats what I thought!!!! Odd mic choice..

  • j is playing his own signature guitar lol!

  • Is Lou playing a Fender Precision Sting bass?

  • i thought the same exact thing. i would say yes he is.

  • No, it's just one of those reissue precisions. He got it after their gear got stolen. He said it didn't sound very good, so he plays the Mike Dirnt signature model now.

  • j+Murph+Lou= genius every time.

As for plugs, I hate them with a passion. Of course I have also lost about 30% of my hearing thanks to not wearing them. Fortunately, no permanant ringing, though.

Loudest concert I have ever been to was Dinosaur jr. in San fran (warfield) probably around 91, 92. I was right up near the stacks, OUCH!! my ears screamed his solos a weak later.

    Chris

  • God.. I'd love to hear J's solos for a week!

  • 'beyond' was so underrated.

  • i agree. Farm seemed to get way better reviews but to me Beyond is more solid overall

  • @webby686 Underrated? Not where I'm from :)

  • aaww without the galsses :D:D hahah

    still awesome ;) =D love them :D:D

  • Yeh ive seen them 3 times reading 92 i saw them in 95 and i saw them last year in Manchester i totaly agree they have got to be one of the loudest bands going don't Forget Mudhoney man they are fucking loud aswell

  • what is this song called? it kicks major ass.

  • "J Mascis, Lou Barlow & Murph playing a blistering version of 'Almost Ready' from the new album Beyond on The Late Show."

right there in the description, begging for you to just read it.

  • very, very cool!

  • big-ass marshalls in a small club = your ears will be fucked. can't that that sound and feel any other way though. i'd love to see them live. i'll just put a little tissue in the ears like pansy.

  • not really, considering he's introduced them on his show about 5 times now and still doesnt remember a thing about them and has to resort to reading a cue card to introduce them

  • They made the J Mascis Sig Model guitar..... finally!

  • Dude its pretty cool besides the purple flaked paint job

  • the purple flake paint job is what makes it badass

  • makes it flamboyant

  • Pretty safe to say J's guitar work caught David's attention. DJ performed twice before on Letterman before this. Three time's a charm, I suppose. :P D Jr. and Letterman ftw.

  • yeah someone fucked up bigtime! Lettermans voice is fucking louder than the band! How does that go together????

  • I love how Letterman reacted. I've never seen him so excited about a band.

  • a return to form with the return of the original band! funny that...

  • what song is this?

  • "Almost Ready"

  • Lo máximo

  • It's good to see them back.

  • This hair on his face bother me, but they are great, David Latterman was very excited at the end.

  • he WAS NOT excited.

  • I saw them at the Troubadour on Sat, they were awesome, pretty loud, I brought ear plugs ended up not using them.

  • GAH I love themm. Best banddd.

  • he messed up the intro lol, but it still rocked

  • Fucking Awesome, do caralho !!!

  • I was left very deaf for about 3 days after I saw this band last year in a very small venue. I was right at the front. Kinda ruined the gig it was that loud. Still, standing at the front was my choice.

  • thats a filthy bass sound...I like it.

  • they killed it...every song on beyond rips...I keep turning it up. If you see them live, wear earplugs or you will have hearing damage and loss.

  • Best freakin' band ever.

    <3

  • are they coming to canada

  • just great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • EVEN LETTERman was enjoying that by the sounds of things. getting into this album at the moment. it's great to have the band out there again in the original form, cause it means i get to see them at leeds festival this year :-)

  • Seen em live then (back many years ago) seen em as the Fog incarnations, seen em when they reformed, will see em this year. Got all the bootlegs too. After over fifteen years of going to the gigs I still think they can be annoyingly messy live. Maybe J simply prefers being the only guitarist on stage but his recent use of backing loops for his solos when playing acoustic suggests he has also recognised the drawbacks of that position.

  • Really needs a rhythm guitarist when live so that those solos dont leave a big gap in the rest of the sound. After the album version this sounds awfully messy

  • thanks this this jeremiah :-)

    * sheila aka rambleon

  • sounds perfectly fine to me...

  • live>album anyday of the week just look at the dead

  • I'm going to see them live in a few weeks and I fear for my ears.

  • Ditto, evenrane. I knew it was gonna be on, and when the time came, my mind blew out on me. Thanks for posting this, s9!

  • Sweet!!!

  • thank you, I missed this and I was freaking out, just hoping that someone would put it on here

  • Thank god they're back!!

  • wonderful!
