A guy named Bruce Jacobi driving the 05 car had an accident earlier in the same race that put him in coma for 4 years before he finally died. Rusty is probably one of the luckiest racecar drivers ever, there are many accidents he's has that shoulda killed him
Ok guys my vocab is limited, the condtion of that infield...uh...oh on the tip of my tounge. OH sure....wet. :) Look at the mud tracks. Must have been an El Nino yet :)
I think this happened in the same Daytona Twin race that Bruce Jacobi had his eventually-fatal flipping accident in almost the exact same area. (I may be wrong though) I thought this because Jacobi's crash is on YT with the same year and the same event, and because Ken says "a serious crash again in turn #2."
Why's this infield look like a war zone
TheCougarFrom1983 2 months ago
boy that infield is a mess, you cant even tell a car from a hole in the ground
C0LL1N 1 year ago
no. jacobi was in the first one. wallace was in the second one.

Actually Jacobi's crash was in the 125 mile qualifier, run the Thursday before the 500.
davidd2172 3 years ago
Well, he had more nasty end of end crashes including a near fatal one at Bristol.

damn, look at the ruts in the grass at the time! if he didn't catch air he would have probably hit the mud and rolled anyway.

And people wonder why Rusty hates Daytona and Talladega...it started at a young age, lol.

Yes that was the same race when Bruce Jacobi had his accident.

Was it the same Twin 125 and was this one of Rusty's first Winston(Nextel) Cup races?
Ruddfan1997 4 years ago
They have two qualifying races. I think Jacobi crashed in the first one and Wallace in the 2nd one.

This is why you pave the inside of the track
