The biggest problem with Jagged Alliance [1] was CTRL+F. It was in the manual as a suggested method of clearing a 'stuck' opponents turn. So, you just press it on every opponent turn and well, that was the end of their turn. I remember it kinda gayed it up for me. Luckily... a fist full of years later (98? 99? who the fuck knows these things?!) along came Jagged Alliance 2, which I still play today in it's original format of my EEEPC... It's the shit :)
Awesome game... My cousin had bought the full version, we played it over LAN, but it was a bit slow with it being turnbased... At home I only had the demo, but I played it many many times...
@RavenTheObsidian Yeah, I got a copy for my DS Lite. I'd didn't play it much... kinda just wanted the box :) It's very difficult to return to after JA2.
@RottenRroses dosbox webpage has a very comprehensive info package on how to mount drives, etc. Just download the game, install it and run it with dosbox (check their webpage/wiki for information if necessary). It will almost certainly run with dosbox default settings!
But why you only "walk" with the squad? When you're on running, then you loose fitness (blue bar), but spend only 1 AP per square (after the 2nd step)
I'd really like to give it a try once more but i can't find it
for that time it WAS better than JA2 (compared to year 2k )and for sure one of the top 10 games EVER! Deadly Games was good, but the multiplayer was a joke and the infinite campaign not as good as all expected
@Zaifur82 I'm afraid I have to admit I have no idea how to run, despite finishing this game almost 10 times! Never heard of such a thing! Please do share :)
ive an other question.. I cant continue the game due the money problem. While the game I found money, but probably I cant use that? Can some1 help me..

You could say that Jagged Allience 2 is as legendary as it's predecessor. What a great games. Way better than today's games. They have forgot to create a soul for games.
One thing I'd like to try in this game to see if its true... From what I've heard, Mike doesn't want to join your team if you've managed to get Reuban killed. It just sounds stupid enough to be possible, the worst and best character being friends...
It was great that Ivan actually spoke Russian and he even had Russian subtitles! Nowadays they'd make some crappy "easter accent" English speaking guy.
@zbyt Ivan... Hes one of the best characters in the game, and he's cheap and can be hired on the first day... And for his russian speaking, it gets somewhat annoying at times when you have no clue what he says though, but yea least its no wannabe accent.
Puolvuotta sitten tuli viimeksi pelattua tätäkin. Harmi ettei saanut ääniä toimimaan täysin oikein, viottunutta dataa tai jotain yhteensopivuus ongelmia laitteiston kanssa. JA rulettaa!
Nostalgia indeed. Huippu peli kunnes Deadly Games tuli kehiin, josta pidin vielä enemmän. JA DG toimii äänien kans ainaki XP:ssä ilman dosboxeja, tosin vähän säröilee äänet ainakin itellä.
If you repair them at home (with the red kit and a mechanic), they will be unjammed and put to 100%. If you are in the field you gotta shoot them repeatedly to fix them. Guns jam quite a bit when they go below 90% so keep them in a good condition!
@eowendyl ive an other question.. I cant continue the game due the money problem. While the game I found money, but probably I cant use that? Can some1 help me..
@aliciqNL: Running out of money is technically "game over". A big part of Jagged Alliance is to maintain a healthy balance. Make sure to take a lot of sectors with trees and adding tappers to harvest them. You can also have days where you earn money by just defending what you have and letting your expensive mercs rest / get treated while you repair items.
i never played this one but ja2 was one of my favorites growing up. The sounds really make they game. So much speech and group dynamics and its just great. I downloaded it from D2D once and it didn't have any of the fucking sounds. Its ok since then I have downloaded the whole thing on bit torrent and have been enjoying this game all over again lately.
I can't believe i'm drunk enough to think of this oldie, yet still stumble onto this awsome ass shit.... TY to the poster, this is good times :) I loved this game and still play it from time to time. The end battles are tough/
Great gameplay on this game, it somewhat ancient so the graphics aren't that great, but it doesn't ruin it.
And if your looking for some extra fun, get some some grenades that aren't in perfect condition, they sometimes blow in your hand of with a delay, sometimes ya throw them and enemies pick them up and they blow up in their inventory.
I think the graphics are very fine for a game this old. I don't like it when "they try too hard" with the newer games.
Anyway, before I started going with 2 repair(wo)men, the grenades were almost always breaking down :p It's also fun when the opponent throws one that does not explode, and you can just pick it up and throw it back :)
Been wanting to make a clone of this game for a long time... Of course with keeping the style and gameplay of the old game. I hope I get around to it someday.
32 days??? LOOOOOOOOOOL i read about people taking a month to beat the game, but i couldn't really imagine it. thanks for delivering proof here. i just beat the game for the fourth time or so on hard difficulty and it never took me more than 10 days to finish it. funny thing: my project balance was just as high and my gear was also in perfect condition. anyway, what was your rating after beating the game?
I don't actually normally take this long to beat the game. If you check below, you will see that I beat it without any loading at *all at any point* in 15 days. I'm sure that if I tried to beat it as fast as possible with save/load (especially in combat) I'd get it done a lot quicker :)
To answer your question, my rating has always been 100% after beating the game. I am not really sure what affects it but it seems to get there really fast (info screen when contacting aim).
hey, thanks for the answer. 100%, even after those 32 days? that's strange. i thought this rating reflected the rating that you could see when clicking the info button while contacting aim. since i never had one below 100 i'm not sure, that's why i asked.
I just got a spark to playing Jagged Alliance again, and tried a new challenge playing Easy level difficulty, but without loading the game at all, ever (unless it crashes or I quit for the day).
It was really interesting. I actually got these "damnit, I can't let Ivan die!" thrills when some guy came out the door and shot him 7 times at point blank range with some sort of a rifle. Good thing 95% armor is a lifesaver ;) Anyway, it was great fun and I managed to beat it in 15 ingame days :)
This is the original Jagged Alliance. There is also JA: Deadly Games. Do a right click on the inventory items and you'll get some voice action in both versions. :)
is there a part 2 to this? you're good!! you've got an awesome army (health included!!) with heaps of gadets and the right amount of firepower! how on earth did you manage that!? did you rest your troops for a few days(patients) to get them to full health? and also repair the weapons too?
To answer your questions, I do indeed have at least one merc always assigned to repairing stuff. However for this video, I took all the sectors except the last one and then repaired and healed everything and everyone fully, fired all my non fighting mercs and got some a full fighting team. Just for the sake of the video.
Normally I don't do this, the last sector is not THAT hard with a normal team, but I figured it'd look good on the video so why not :) and I had the cash to spend...
theres usually an enemy inside the lab i usually position some mercs in front of the entrance and throw a stone or shoot the door, until someone opens. that normally works. Also, you can always blow up doors with grenades, you can lockpick them, and if you try it often enough, simply shooting the door with any gun will often do. The key to the door, however, is in the pot in front of the hous on the small island in the top left corner of the sector.
I didn't even finish JA2 because it was missing so much of the essentials - like the announcer. Gave it a try though but some things are better left untouched...
Still, people who first played JA2 probably won't miss something they had no knowledge of :)
Dunno, I honestly think that JA2 is still superior to its predecessor. There are five new features for every missing old one - and besides, with the new versions of 1.13 mod it becomes another game altogether. I'd say you're the one who's missing out on fun stuff now ^^
You may be right, but I tried to enter the game without prejudices. Didn't quite succeed though, because eventually I just stopped playing. It didn't get me hooked like this one did. Maybe one day I'll give it another shot :)
Going to go with Ghost on this one. For me it was like Fallout 1 vs. Fallout 2. Fallout 1 is great, but Fallout 2 is just a little better. But Fallout 3 is a travesty, changed it to an oblivion clone instead of keeping the game actually Fallout, which was great because it was Fallout.
Let's just hope JA3 doesn't go the way of Fallout 3.
At first I was sure I would be able to kill whatever was out there with the remaining guys who all had their full turn left, but then one interrupted me and threw a grenade at him, thus reducing his movement to zero.
There's no unlimited money or such in this movie btw. What I did was that I had finished a Jagged Alliance game (on hard!) earlier, and for the video's sake I reloaded it from 1 day before the end and fired half of my team. With the accumulated funds, I could hire the best guns for hire for a more entertaining (or not?) video. A team like that would bankrupt me in 2 days though, but since only 1 was needed... :P
Sadly I deleted the original recording I made after I uploaded this one (it took quite a bit of space uncompressed being almost half an hour in length). Still, since I've been cravin' for some good old fashioned Jagged Alliance action and got some time tonight, I guess I might very well have something to upload later on :)
For my Contra videos I used fraps, but for the rest I figured that you can use Dosbox to do the deed for you for a much better result. Then again, Contra isn't a dosbox game anyway :)
